NAME:_______________________ Junior Year Analogy Activity Directions: This is an activity to get you thinking about the upcoming year and help you get to know more of your classmates. Read and complete the steps below. The first three steps are individual. The last two are in pairs/groups. Complete 1-3 and then wait for me to give further directions. 1. Generate a list of at least three analogies for junior year of high school. Choose from the six comparisons given to you on the back of this page or make up your own. (Junior year will be like…): 2. Now, choose one of your analogies and generate several questions about the analogy (Ex: What do soccer and junior year have in common? How are the dynamics on a sports team similar to the dynamics of a classroom? Etc.). Then, write several notes that explore the details of the analogy you chose before you start comparing it to high school (Ex: In soccer, you have coaches, Gatorade, practices, rules, penalties. You have people who play different roles. You have a group that is dependent on everyone doing his/her job. Etc.). 3. Now, make the connection and explain briefly the analogy you chose. (How, for example, is high school like…?) This part doesn’t have to be long. 4. Get into groups of 3-4 and, after introducing yourselves—your name, schools you’ve been to, etc.—compare your ideas about junior year. Jot down notes below. 5. Directions: This is an activity to get you thinking about the upcoming year and help you get to know more of your classmates. Read and complete the steps below. The first three steps are individual. The last two are in pairs/groups. Complete 1-3 and then wait for me to give further directions.
