Identifies excellent alternatives and perspectives in presenting their summative task with creativity as shown in their expressive piece/song interpretation and performance. The choral accompaniment is confident, in time, varied in extreme pitch, rotation of hands, extensive use of keys, moderations, accidentals and rhythmic patterns. Piece is true partnership.

Demonstrates excellent exploration of ideas about expressionist music. This is by using bass and treble clef notation, choral techniques fluently. The evidence is detailed, through a personal discussion and evaluation of their research work in their DW. Research work shows a variety (5 or more) of topics explored.

Today I have performed a solo expressive piece, ‘I See fire’. This was composed and performed by Ed Sherman. This was originally written for the film ‘the Hobbit’. The story from the film is of ‘Billo Baggins Hobit’s son’s adventures and the relationship to the dragon. This pieces, is exceptionally emotional, and expressive. Originally Ed Sherman was brief on the complex nature of the character, and this piece was then a ‘personnel story reflection of the anguish –all taken from ‘4 animated images’. Traditionally Romantic classical music, would be based upon a tone poem ( expressive art work) and the piece written would symbolise the mood or expression.

I new I needed to reflect, pain, despair and anger within my version of the piece. I am playing piano, and realised through the score that only a limited amount of the expressive symbols had been included. I lowered the Pitch ( key of the music, so my friend could speak the music for me, as a’ personal poem). The keys and accidental where trickily when I started to play. So I practiced per hand, and used the pedal. I had listened to different versions of this piece, and while I liked the upbeat Kyco version, and a acoustic guitar I really felt that to portray the pain’. I needed to move the tempo to ‘Andante or Largo’. The key of the piece, I transposed to A Minor, and the key chords where ‘Am, Em, Dm – harmonic, with melodic chorus).

In my opinion, I was nervous to perform my piece. I thought people would not like how I played and I would make mistakes. This is would be especially in the left hand, through the middle section. I have been practicing, but to play accurately a syncopated, drone and extended chromatic chords left hand.

I wanted the piece to sound ‘modern, a bit slower in a acoustic moody style.’. I was thinking of adding a blacking beat, but ran out of time. Instead changed the keyboard sound and had a small beat underneath (Ballard)…… How did my piece go!, I performed in my opinion to a 6! My notes here accurate, I didn’t make it to noticeable I made a mistake. I did fumble in one section, because I extended the rhythms and repeated the music for having a clear structure. Otherwise it finished really quickly! ……………………………………

My SMART goals for next terms piano playing would be…..
