Incumbent: Vacant position – partnership between Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and MMIGP.

Work Type: Full time. Five days per week Monday to Friday - 7.6 Hour Day(stagged start on men’s group days i.e start at 11.00am and finish 7.36pm)

Job Duration: Immediate start until 30th of December 2017 (extension is subject to funding – expected to know in late October 2017/ Early November 2017)

Salary: Full time salary of $60,000 per annum Plus 9.50% Superannuation. Access to generous salary sacrifice.

Background MMIGP is looking for an experienced, creative and motivated Aboriginal Men’s Health and Cultural Wellbeing Coordinator to support the Koolin Balit strategy in the Eastern Metro Health Region.During the Koolin Balit planning phase in March 2015, the Aboriginal community and Koolin Balit Regional Aboriginal Health Committee formulated the priority area of ‘Resilient and Strong Aboriginal men’.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring your cultural knowledge and creative thinking skills to a strategy that aims to deepen the integration of health and human services for Aboriginal males within Eastern Metro Region of Melbourne.

The work of the Koolin Balit in Eastern Metro Health is informed by a Population Health Planning approach to improving the health outcomes for vulnerable communities. This requires an understanding of how the social factors contribute to the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal population.

Purpose of the Position

As the Koolin Balit Men’s Health and Wellbeing Coordinator you will be responsible for the provision of effective project coordination, cultural advice and develop cultural activities to support successful strategies to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal males within the Eastern Metro Region.

The primary aims of the position are to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal males by:• Increasing access to the range of health, mental health and

other support services

• Improving the coordination and integration of services for Aboriginal males accessing and moving between health care settings

• Scoping the needs of Aboriginal men with respect to culturally appropriate gatherings and identification of factors that contribute to strong and healthy Aboriginal males

• Facilitating appropriate partnerships between mainstream and ACCOs to work within a population health approach towards men’s health and wellbeing

• Providing timely cultural advice and required reports to the Aboriginal health governance groups, Department of Health and Human Services representatives, auspice bodies, and relevant community organisations and the Aboriginal community

• Developing a cultural mentor framework for male Aboriginal youth within the youth justice system and other vulnerable Aboriginal males across the Eastern region.

As the Koolin Balit Men’s Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, your advice will also support the planning and implementation of Koolin Balit through a population health approach in a manner which is culturally rich and appropriate to the male members of the Aboriginal community. You will be supported to do this by working with DHHS Box Hill office to understand publicly release population data for use within your position. You will also be required network with all Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation to facilitate community engagement.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience from working with male members of Aboriginal communities and a sound understanding of the cultural aspects which influence the health and wellbeing needs for this unique population. The successful candidate will be an independent worker, with high level coordination and communication skills to achieve measurable outcomes.
