Farewells
Margaret L has decided to move into care and has moved into the same place as Muriel. Margaret has settled in well and is loving her new abode. Margaret plans to come back in September when the Dutch singers will be coming to entertain us.
Sadly, Jane (71) passed away on Thursday 25th July. Jane did not get to live here for very long but for the small amount she did, she really was very appreciative of the warm welcome she received, the friendless of the residents and staff and really enjoyed her last few months at Arcadia. Jane will be buried in York with her husband.
The family wish to pass on their thanks to everyone for the happiness we all bought to Jane’s life in her short time here and thanks everyone for the support.

Changes
The choir will no longer be using Fontenay Hall on a Monday this will now be moved to Thursdays 1pm to 2.30pm.
Car Washing Service Monthly
This service will continue; however, we are finding it very difficult to place the date on our planner as it changes frequently. Please see reception if you want assistance with a booking.A Word from CherylHello to everyone, another month has just flown past before we knew it. The resident’s surveys were sent out last month by Head Office. I do hope you have taken the time out to complete this as it does give us valuable feedback be it positive or negative. One can never fix what you don’t know is broken😊
If you have lost it, or there are two of you and you need one each just let me know and I will arrange it.
We would have just had a General Meeting at the time you receive this newsletter so lots of my news with what is going on would be presented at this meeting, so I will not repeat myself here.
I have been looking at your personal information forms and I would like you and your families to do the same. The things you need to keep on top of are:
Medicare Numbers – a number are short the last number, next time you are in the office please bring yours up or email us your number so we can cross check our recordsPhone numbers and addresses of familyEmail contactsHave you changed your GP? Do you have a new Specialist?Any new medical problems?
This is all important info to have in the event of an emergency….we all hope it won’t happen but unfortunately it does. Please check that you have a form in your kitchen under the cutlery drawer and that the information is correct.
Chen will be going on leave this month for 4 weeks. His new baby is due on the 20th August.

AWARENESS in AUGUST
Dementia Friendly CommunityThe Alzheimer’s Association will be coming out to do a presentation on how we can become more aware about Dementia. We all have been touched at some point in our lives of knowing someone who has had memory loss, some of it is mild and unfortunately some is quite severe. The aim of this talk is to give us all greater understanding of the person who is affected and how we could perhaps be an understanding neighbour. There will be lots of opportunity for questions and answers which may be helpful for your self or someone you know.
When : Wednesday 14th AugustTime: 11am to 1pmWhere: Fontenay HallSnacks: Will be made availableRSVP: By the 9th of August please. This will be required as the speaker needs to ensure she has enough hands- outs, and we have provided enough catering.
Safety in the HomeWe will also be having a talk from Stay on Your Feet this month. This talk will cover the subject of Safety in your home and what to be aware of. Just about all the falls happen in your own home. This talk should provide you with some tips that may reduce your risk.Falls can range from no broken bones, no cuts or bruises or the complete opposite where your life changes forever. Even if you think you have no physical injuries, you do have some emotional ones with loss of confidence which changes your lifestyle.Prevention is the better option and I hope you all attend and gain some useful knowledge that you can put to good use.
When: Wednesday 28th AugustTime: 11am to 12pmWhere: Fontenay Hall

Thoughts from the Chairperson
Hello Everyone,
Here we are, nearly the end of July. Sometimes I wonder where the time goes. It is cold and wet but a good reason to snuggle up and keep warm. The way time is racing we will soon be complaining “It’s too hot”
We have had a rather quiet July in the Village but the Birthday Morning Tea was very well attended as usual. Everyone looks forward to the yummy cake that Cheryl so cleverly slices to make sure everyone gets a piece.
The Arthritis talk was held and attended by a few residents. These talks are organised by Cheryl to help you manage your health a little better. There is always something new which may help you.
Wednesday 11th July was a very happy day for quite a lot of our Residents who were presented with “The Decade Badge” by Roger Kwok, the General Manager of Arcadia Waters. This inaugural, badge is a special recognition of Residents who have lived in the village for 10 years and over. The Presentation was followed by a scrumptious morning tea paid for by Roger and served to us by our Staff with a little help from head office staff. “Congratulations to all who received the badge of honour”. It was a very pleasant morning. Thank you Cheryl once again for all your hard work to make this function such a great success.
Cheryl’s lunch was as usual a huge success enjoyed by all who attended. The pumpkin soup was very yummy.
Mahjong seems to have taken off and is enjoyed by about 10 residents. Lovely to see and great to see another form of entertainment for those who are interested in playing. You can always add more suggestions and we will see what we can do.
Norm tells me that the numbers at Bingo are picking up and there is still room for more residents to come and join in the fun and maybe take home a pocket full of money.

The Shopping Bus to Phoenix was an enjoyable outing for those who went. Our thanks go out to our driver Kevin who got wet helping all the residents on to the bus keeping each individual dry under his umbrella as he escorted them one at a time to their seat, making sure no one slipped. Hope he is not down with the flu and is able to drive us to the Herdsman Tavern for our “Christmas in July” lunch, which I am sure will be enjoyed by all who attend.
Friday the 31st, July will be our second Resident/Committee Meeting for 2019, and the Committee hope to see as many residents as can make it to this meeting.
Well now it is good bye from me until next month. Keep warm and well.
Regards from
Marg. Pavlinovich.Chair Person for Arcadia Waters Bicton Residents Committee

A Note from Linley
Remember Jan in the office?
Of course we all do….that big smile and gentle Scottish accent!
Well, I was in Canberra last week and caught up with her for a coffee in the National Library, followed by a brisk walk along Lake Burley Griffin.
She really loves living in Canberra.
How does she find the freezing cold weather? Just like Scotland but with blue skies!
When we weren’t talking about her work and family I was busy answering questions about our Village.
It is 2 1/2 years since she left and I think she misses us all.
So here is a ‘Hi everyone!’ from Jan.
Linley
Lake Burley Griffin is an artificial lake in the centre of Canberra, the capital of Australia. It was completed in 1963 after the Molonglo River—which ran between the city centre and Parliamentary Triangle—was dammed. It is named after Walter Burley Griffin, the American architect who won the competition to design the city of Canberra.
