Message from your Regent Dear Sisters in Christ, Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a fun summer. As I write this, Tropical Storm Harvey is on the way, so I hope all are getting ready and hope all stay safe. By now I think all the kids are back in school and I pray that they all have a successful start, like their teachers, and learn a lot. With my grandson here, I realize how hard it is to keep up with work, homework, and our normal household chores. On August 12, Regents and Vice Regents met at the home of our worthy DD to plan the year. I hope everyone has a pair of roller skates and remembers how to use them. We are going to need them from the get go. It’s going to be a very, very busy year. This year we will be hosting the Reception for new members in January, the Mini Fiesta in February, and our 50 th Anniversary in March. We also have our Thanksgiving baskets, feeding the youth, CDA Day, and WRAP Campaign, as well as recruiting new members. Oh - and not to mention Habitat for Humanity in Edinburg. I spent Saturday, Aug. 19 th with Esther Siller, our Website and FB Chairman. I’m so excited about the website! I can’t wait for her to finish. I just know it’s going to be awesome. We will be putting the newsletter, calendar, State and National News on there, as well as other information. I was finally able to go through all the boxes that our Past Regent Tricia brought to my house earlier in the year. We have a very strong history. I was so excited to go through the boxes! The men in my family were not so excited as they had to carry them up stairs for me. I was finally able to go through all the boxes that our Past Regent Tricia brought to my house earlier in the year. We have a very strong history. I was so excited to go through the boxes! The men in my family were not so excited as they had to carry them up stairs for me. I got ideas from past newsletters, programs, and projects. I hope that some of our past Regents won’t mind my copying some of their ideas. We will need to vote on a mini fundraiser to help with expenses. If you don’t want to do a fundraiser we can all try and get donations from different businesses. I realize it’s hard to ask for donations but I’m willing to make the effort. If you lead me in the right direction I will be willing to go. We will continue to pass the box at our monthly meetings, so please continue to make those very generous donations. I ask that you keep me and all the officers, and all our court members, in your prayers, that we may all work and play and pray together.

In Unity and Charity Norma

The MemorareRemember, O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your

intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto to you, O Virgin of Virgins, our Mother. To you we come; before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the word Incarnate, despise not our

petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer us. AmenPlease keep the following Members in your prayers:

Felicitas Villarreal for the loss of her son Antonio Villarreal Jr.Dolores Castro for the loss of her husband Alberto F. Castro

And for the families of our recently deceased members Constanza Correa and Rafaela Guerrero.

DuesPlease remember to pay your Dues. The court has to pay National Dues in November so you must pay dues to the court by November. Rose and I met with our District Deputy Socorro Vicinaiz in September and went over the National Roster against our books, and there are quite a few members in arrears. We have called some of these members and Rose sent out letters to those members in arrears. Please bring your $25.00 to the October Meeting or mail them to: Carmen Ramirez, 68 Calgary Court,Brownsville TX 78526

State News

I was able to attend the Ground Blessing and Raising of the Walls for the 8th Habitat for Humanity Build in Edinburg with our District Deputy Socorro Vicinaiz. It was a first for both of us. The State Chaplain, Rev. T. Labus, did the Blessing, and Senator Eddie Lucio was also there to support this endeavor. All of the State Officers, our immediate past State Regent Eve Trevino, and National Director Carolyn Bachman were present. This is also the first time the State Knights of Columbus joined as sponsors for the build. It was beautiful to see so many of the Courts from the Valley, as well as all over the State. I hope that more members from our court will make the effort to attend the build at least one Saturday. The address is 317 S. 85th St. Edinburg, TX. I will also be joining Socorro to help with the fundraiser Shoot for Shelter, October 7th, 2017 in Edinburg.

Preparations have already begun for planning for the State Convention 2019 in McAllen. Their first meeting was Saturday Sept. 23, 2017.

National News You are the JOY in CDA was the theme for the conference for the newly elected State and Territorial Officers this past July at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville, Illinois. It was a very spiritual time

for all those in attendance. There were 146 Catholic Daughters in attendance. They unveiled new books for record keeping for local courts. BOGO!! CONTEST is still in play. If you know someone, bring someone. We are the best advertisement for CDA! We need to show and share our experiences and our joy of service. Be Prayerful - pray for new members. Be faithful - fulfill your commitments. Be knowledgeable - know your procedures and tell others about CDA. Be proud - you serve God with the best women in the world!

Social Media We now have a new website. I hope everyone takes a little time to look at it. You will be ableto see this newsletter and other newsletters in the future. It will be a way to attract and connect with future new members. Our website is www.cdabrownsville1988.org. Please also visit and “Like” our Facebook page, Court Bishop Adolph Marx #1988.

I would also like to encourage everyone to check out the State website at www.texascda.org , and the new Texas State Facebook page Texas CDA. They have already posted pictures of the Habitat for Humanity build. And last, but not least, the National website is www.catholicdaughters.org. There is a wealth of information about CDA so again I urge you to please take a little time and look at them.
