Discrete Subjects: Literacy & English Children will learn to confidently use their skimming and scanning skills to help highlight relevant information, use the information they have read to create notes using their own words, for a variety of texts and purposes and audiences. Also look at the source to assess the usefulness and reliability of the source and use as evidence to support their own view. We will learn the importance of characterisation, and descriptive writing to make our story writing more interesting by creating a mood with the setting and having some dialogue. Learners will continue to practice spelling rules and patterns. Spanish Children will revisit asking and answering when a birthday is. We will also focus on how to talk about the weather. We will also look at how Spanish people celebrate Christmas as well as looking at Spanish phrases for Christmas. Numeracy- We will be learning how to use a range of mental and written strategies of adding and subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers. The children will be focusing this term on some aspects of shape where we will be concentrating on position movement and angles. We will also be looking at the different properties of 2d and 3d shapes learning to use mathematic vocabulary such as vertices, edges and faces Health and Wellbeing- We are continuing the Building Resilience programme with the ‘Be Kind to Others’ unit. We will also learn how to keep ourselves save and learning about substance misuse and the effect it has on the body. PE- We will continue to learn how to use Respect & Tolerance, Responsibility & Leadership. We will also be thinking about our Decision Making, Coordination and Fluency through different sports RE- We will be continuing our Pope Francis Faith Award where we will be learning about the gift of Awe and Wonder. We will also be learning more about the life of the disciples and why they play an important part in our Faith. Expressive Arts In Art we will be focusing on The World around You. This is using based on Anthony Gaudi. Will then design a bus shelter based on shapes from nature then move on to group work where they will design a community centre inspired by Gaudi's organic shapes and imagination. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. In P7 we’ll have the opportunity to: *Participate in Mass at school and in our local community and learn to pray. *Develop good relationships. *Learn about the importance of pupil voice. *Participate in weekly assemblies. *Participate in pupil groups *Learn about our rights as we work towards the Gold Level RRSA. *Build Resilience – Be Kind to Others *Building links with Trinity House * Play and learn alongside our buddies. Interdisciplinary Learning: We will be focussing on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project linked to Geography. Literacy- We will be researching and creating notes on the states of America and creating fact files on the states. Using the concept of the ‘American Dream’ we will use this as a stimulus for our creative writing Science – We will focus on different types of energy and how that can affect climate change. This we will link to Paris agreement which America controversially pulled out of in 2015. Technology – We will also look at different ways we can make pictures more interactive by using technology. Maths – We will be learning about currency looking at how there is different exchange rates all around the world. We will also be looking at map work and how we can use co- ordinates to find places on an atlas. Expressive Arts – We will learn about and recreate different landmarks of America. Using the concept of the ‘American dream’ and ‘Hollywood’ we will create our own ‘Hollywood’ move trailer where we will have to go through the process of creating a move. (Script writing, storyboarding, directing/acting and editing.)
