Discrete Subjects: Literacy & English – Primary 6/7 will continue to improve their predicting, skimming, scanning and inference skills through reading comprehension activities. We will develop our creative writing skills with a focus on setting and characterisation. Primary 6/7 will also learn debating skills and take part in verbal debates. Learners will continue to practice spelling rules and patterns. Spanish – Primary 6/7 will revise days, months and writing the date. We will practice asking and answering when a birthday is. Learners will improve their ability to ask and answer questions about themselves with a partner. We will begin to use basic classroom instructions in Spanish. Numeracy- Primary 6/7 will apply their knowledge of times tables to long multiplication activities. We will revise addition and subtraction of numbers to 1 million and practice strategies such as carrying and borrowing. We will expand our knowledge of negative and prime numbers. Maths – Primary 6/7 will practice measuring and converting units of measurement. We will revise telling the time, reading timetables and converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time. Health and Wellbeing- Primary 6/7 will continue the Building Resilience programme with the ‘Be Kind to Others’ unit. We will learn about substance misuse and the effect it has on the body. PE- Learners will improve their determination and stamina with a variety of activities aiming to improve fitness. RE- Primary 6/7 will continue to work toward achieving their Pope Francis Faith Award. We will learn about the Beatitudes and reflect on our Faith journeys so far. Expressive Arts – Primary 6/7 will increase their awareness of Italian artists and culture. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. In P6/7, we’ll have the opportunity to: *Participate in Mass at school and learn to pray. *Develop good relationships. *Learn about the importance of pupil voice. *Participate in weekly assemblies. *Participate in pupil groups *Learn about our rights as we work towards the Gold Level RRSA. *Build Resilience – Be Kind to Others *Building links with Trinity House *Carol singing to members of the community *Poppy selling Interdisciplinary Learning: We will be focussing on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project linked to Geography. Literacy – Primary 6/7 will investigate Mount Vesuvius and the destruction of Pompeii to inspire creative writing. Science – We will learn through hands-on experiments the effects of natural disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanoes. We will learn how these occur and the impact they have on our fragile earth. Technology – Learners will explore different materials in order to recreate various examples of Italian architecture as models. We will use ICT to create fact files of natural disasters. Maths –Primary 6/7 will examine the angles of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and use their knowledge of measurement and scale to build models. Expressive Arts – We will use dramatic techniques such as freeze frames, hot seating and mime to explore the destruction of Pompeii. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we’ll also get the chance to learn through different experiences. We will participate in: Gold Medal Award and Values certificate House Points Owl Tokens for following the playground charter Outdoor learning including the Daily Mile Nativity and Christmas Service Outright Campaign (Global citizenship) We will share achievements from after school clubs Sharing our learning with the rest of the school ..
