We will also be learning about the main ideas and purpose of a text and giving oral presentations explaining processes. Spanish –We will be learning how to say and write the day, month and year, and use this for writing the date, including the date of our birthdays. We will also learn how to talk about ourselves and ask others questions about themselves. Numeracy-Following on from our multiplication work, we will practise division, explore fractions and percentages and in non-number maths, we will be measuring and finding out about angles. Health and Wellbeing- We will be learning about substance misuse and understanding the effects it has on our bodies and in PE we hope to do some fitness training which will help our resilience and determination. In RE, we will be continuing to work towards achieving the Pope Francis Faith Award, learning about the Beatitudes and the celebration of Christmas in different cultures. Expressive Arts – We will be researching different Italian artists and paintings. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. Interdisciplinary Learning: We will be focussing on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project linked to Geography. Our country will be Italy. Literacy – We shall be studying Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii to inspire our imaginary writing. Science – We will investigate volcanoes, tsunamis and other natural disasters around the world. Technology – Inspired by Italian culture and architecture, we will create sketches and models of famous buildings. Maths – Using measurement and angles to explore the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Expressive Arts – Thinking about Pompeii, we will create dramatic mimes, freeze frames and ‘hot seating’ techniques to understand more about it. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we’ll also get the chance to learn through different experiences. We will participate in: Gold Medal Award and Values certificate House Points Owl Tokens for following the playground charter Outdoor learning including the Daily Mile Nativity and Christmas Service Outright Campaign (Global citizenship) We will share achievements from after school clubs Sharing our learning with the rest of the school ..
