Discrete Subjects: Literacy & English - Using our writing skills we will explore several issues linked to our IDL topics. We will use a variety of planning formats to support our work. Learning to use a range of sentence starts and questions, we will uplevel our sentences to engage our readers. Spanish – We are learning to talk about our feelings. Numeracy and Mathematics - We will develop a range of mental and written strategies to support multiplication and division. Learning our times tables will support the speed and confidence of our recall. Within 2D shape, we will use these skills to help us estimate and calculate the area of a given shape. Health and Wellbeing – Our topic is Respect Yourself. We will identify what makes us special and how we are unique. We will discuss why eating and sleeping well has a big impact on our general wellbeing. PE- Miss Richard will continue to develop our PE skills whilst also working on good and fair sportsmanship. RE- We will be focusing on Lenten activities and beginning First Communion preparation. Expressive Arts – We will learn the basics of ukulele over a 5 week period. Using drama, we will explore our HWB and IDL topics. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. In P4 we’ll have the opportunity to: *Participate in daily prayers and Mass at school *Develop good relationships *Learn about the importance of pupil voice *Participate in assemblies *Continue to learn about our rights as a Gold Level RRS *Building Resilience – Respect Yourself A8&12 *Learn about the importance of Nurture *Strengthening our relationship with the Interdisciplinary Learning: This term we will be exploring Polish customs and culture as part of International Mother Language Day (21st February). This will link to Articles 2, 28 and 30 in the UNCRC. The children will be leading their learning and we welcome parental involvement to support us with this. There will be a showcase event to celebrate our learning. Holy Cross is working towards the National Nurturing Schools Award. As part of this we are developing a whole school awareness of nurture, the 6 Principles of Nurture and continuing to build strong links with the local community. This term’s IDL will help to build stronger community links. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we’ll also get the chance to learn through different experiences. We will participate in: Gold Medal Award and Values certificate Owl Tokens for following the playground charter Lent and Easter Service We will share achievements from clubs Sharing our learning with the rest of the school Class visits to Leith Library World Book Day (5/3) A15&28 Internet Safety Day (11/2) World Water Day (22/3) A24 SDG6 Science Week (6/3-13/3) Fairtrade Fortnight (24/2-8/3) A19,27, 28&32 SCIAF Appeal ..
