We started off our topic work by going for a walk in our school grounds. We looked for the things that were changing. We col-lected lots of different coloured leaves, noticed which trees were evergreen and which were deciduous and also collected Autumn objects such as conkers, beech nuts and seed cases.
We were going to write some Autumn poems so we used our senses to explore the leaves. We stepped on them, kicked them and shuffled our feet through them. We scrunched them in our
hands and threw them in the air. We chose adjectives to describe the colours, sounds they made and the way they moved.
We turned our classroom into part of an Autumn wood. We used the programmable BeeBot to create routes from one Autumn picture to another. We have written poems,
made Autumn tree collages and used leaf rubbings to create
pictures of Autumn animals. We even made bird cake to
Autumn leaf poem By Blake Benton-Proctor
Autumn leaves twirling in the wind like a tornado.
Then they float down to the floor and shake.
Squirrels scampering, scurrying and climb-ing up the trees.
Hedgehogs hide under amber leaves. Conkers break on the floor, break and
smash. Frogs sit on poisonous toadstools covered
in spots. Red berries are poisonous and strange.
Autumn leaf poem By Katie Farrell
All the leaves everywhere are crimson and red.
Beech tree, beech tree, you are so so huge.
There is a carpet of soft Autumn leaves. Some shiny and some sparkly.
Some crinkly and some crunchy. It feels like a bed of snow.
Leaves float down like snowflakes.
Autumn leaf poem By Maia Duncombe
Leaves swirl like tornadoes in the Autumn wind and glide away.
As leaves fall from the tree they swish and swirl around the plants as if they are danc-
ing. They are prancing happily.
Rosy-red apples are what we like. Leaves are russet brown.
Autumn leaf poem By Deanna Bennett
All the leaves are falling. Some are red and brown and yellow. All the leaves are like butterflies when
they’re floating to the ground. Leaves are torn and ripped.
Autumn is here. Conkers are growing and leaves are going
