“The Perfect Church”
I think that I shall never see A church that’s all it ought to be;
A church whose members never stray Beyond the straight and narrow way;
A church that has no empty pews Whose preacher never has the blues;
A church whose deacons always “deak” And none is proud and all are meek
Where gossips never peddle lies Or make complaints or criticize;
Where all are always sweet and kind And all to others’ faults be blind
Such perfect churches there may be, But none of them are known to me. But still we’ll work and pray and plan To make this one the best we can.
Anonymous
Let us pray….
God of Wisdom, we thank you for all the gifts you have given us throughout this Catechetical Year.
We praise you for giving us life,
for saving us in Christ, and for choosing us to be your people.
As we come to the end of this Catechetical Year, we voice our gratitude
for the good things you have done in us, and we praise you for all that
has been shared among our catechists and students.
We ask you to bless them in your love and give them refreshment and peace.
We praise you God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.

The Music Ministry of Holy Innocents is blessed with gifted individuals who willingly share their talents each week. This year three of our talented members will graduate high school. They have each uniquely touched and added to our ministry and we will be sharing their stories with you over these weeks leading up to graduation. James Prizeman has been a member of the Music Ministry since the 5th grade. He has always been one of our most dedicated and enthusiastic members and rarely misses a practice or weekend mass. As new members joined, James has been a one-man welcoming committee. He helps to explain how our rehearsals work, and made sure that newcomers feel welcome. During our Lessons and Carols presentation, James has been one of our soloists, and worked diligently with his piano teacher to perfect his part. This year he will perform a piano solo at school for NYSSMA. Music is not James’ only talent. For all four years at Pleasantville High School, (PHS), James was a member of the building crew for the high school plays and the Spring Track team. In this past year, as a senior, James was involved with the link crew, which is an organization that welcomes freshman to Pleasantville High school. He also worked with Mr. Palumbo, the PHS principal, to organize other activities for the link crew. At the PHS Senior awards night, James received a principal’s award. James is a fabulous model of community service. He is a member of the Holy Innocents Youth Group and has participated in the visits to the Cottage School, Ronald McDonald House, and the breakfast runs to New York City. James was very grateful for the Youth Group’s support of two autism speaks walks during his high school years. He has also participated in the echo group at school which is a service organization. In several of his semesters at PHS James received first honors and is very proud to be graduating with a Regents diploma. James was selected to attend the project search program through Arc of Westchester in September. This one-year program offers job training and internships to young adults with autism; 70% of the candidates who graduate this program secure jobs in the Westchester area. We know James will excel in this program! It has been a privilege to work with and make music with James. He has a wonderful spirit and brings enthusiasm and energy to everything he does. He is a son of our parish who has been a consistent model of Christian service and volunteerism by sharing his gifts with all of us!! We, along with you, will continue to support his efforts with our prayers and encouragement as he begins this next chapter of his life! Congratulations James!

Regarding Fr. Terence Quinn, OP
To: The Friends of Fr. Terence Quinn, O.P. From: Fr. Ken Letoile, O.P., Prior Provincial RE: Understanding Fr. Quinn’s present status Date: May 31, 2018 Feast of the Visitation
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your concern about our beloved Fr. Terence Quinn. I write this as one who loves Fr. Quinn as the icon of the province that he is. I also write as the son of a mother who, suffering from loss of memory, spent the last 3 ½ years of her life in a residence staffed by The Little Sisters of the Poor. I decided to address this in an FAQ format.
1. Q: What are some of the health issues that Fr. Quinn deals with? A: He is 93 years old; he has no sight in his left eye; he is very hard of hearing, and suffers from memory loss. 2. Q: Why did Fr. Ken and Bro. Ignatius make the decision to move Fr. Quinn to Cabrini ElderCare in Dobbs Ferry, NY? A: At the recommendation of his personal physician, Fr. Quinn needed to be cared for in a health center where his many needs could be provided and properly supervised 24 hours a day: personal (bathing; dressing), spiritual (daily Mass attendance), social (frequent interaction with long term friends), nutritional (three meals a day), medical (on-time medication administration; physician oversight, eye, dental and foot care), and safety; needs that could no longer be provided in a big priory on Lexington Avenue in mid-town Manhattan. Fr. Quinn’s increasing memory loss caused him to miss the above structures of community life that he needs at this time in his life. 3. Q: Why Cabrini ElderCare? A: It’s a beautiful Catholic facility where another friar, Fr. Dan Davies, O.P., and priests and religious live. It’s also lo-cated close to a parish where he served and near other Dominican communities. 4. Q: Why not a Dominican place like the Sisters have? A: Our province uses different Catholic facilities in many geographic areas that coincide with the individual friar’s his-tory and ministry. Ours is a big province and if we used one place, it would be challenging for friars with no connection to that area and would physically distance them from their long term friends and associates. 5. Q: I thought religious communities were a family. Why not keep your elderly friars “at home”? A: We aren’t a family in the same sense that your blood family is family and therefore don’t have the 24/7 vigilance and constant care that some families are able to provide. Fr. Quinn’s condition has reached the point where we are no longer able to adequately and safely care for his needs in a Dominican community. 6. Q: Why is Fr. Quinn residing on the Mezzanine Unit at Cabrini ElderCare? He is fine when I talk to him and the other people on the level seem so far below his capacity. A: Fr. Quinn’s memory loss, which doesn’t always show up during visits, was placing him at risk. He almost wandered out the front door several times and was knocking on other residents’ doors trying to find his room. He has good days and bad days. On a good day he will be a delightful conversationalist but may not remember your visit later. A profes-sional consultation concluded that Fr. Quinn’s condition requires the security and care the Mezzanine level offers. 7. Q: Can we take Fr. Quinn out for a meal or a ride? A: Yes, as long as you clear it with the staff and re-enforce that he now lives at Cabrini, not St. Vincent’s. Fr. Quinn en-joys visitors and talking with friends. Frequent visits with his Dominican friars and long term friends provide very im-portant socialization that is so important to him in this stage of his life. Please don’t ask the staff about Fr. Quinn’s con-dition in front of him. 8. Q: Who do I call if I have questions? A: Bro. Ignatius Perkins, O.P., Director of Health Services (646-753-0381) or Fr. Ken Letoile, O.P., Provincial (212-737-5757). I hope this memo provides some helpful clarifications.
Sincerely,
Very Reverend Kenneth Raymond Letoile, O.P.
