Director Profile: Lwandile GagelaLwandile is a Mechanical Engineer who has a B-Tech Degree from the University of Johannesburg, a Project Management Certificate from Wits University, B.Sc Honours in Technology Management at University of Pretoria and is studying towards his Government Certificate of Competence in Factories.

In addition, he is registered with ECSA as a Pr-Tech Eng. He is currently registered for GDE and studying towards his Masters with Wits University. Lwandile has fourteen years of experience in the engineering in the engineering field. His experience covers mechanical, civil and electrical engineering. He has worked in blue chip companies like NECSA, Marcopolo, Alstom Mechanical Equipment, Consol Glass and DRA mineral Projects.

Lwandile is passionate about engineering and is always excited about opportunities where he could exercise his knowledge in engineering and participate in creating stable economy in Africa. He has a particular interest in process plant design, construction, commissioning and operational maintenance .

Scalable Ahafo Expansion Project, for Newmont (March 2017 to 2018) – Commodity - GoldProject Status: ExecutionResponsibilities: Lwandile was assigned as mechanical engineer to manage engineering, procurement, design, construction, installation, testing, training & commissioning of the gold process piping systems and Carbon in Leach tanks and its structures in Ghana. His scope of work included the generating piping specification for the whole plant, design and procurement of the SMPP contract for the carbon in leach tanks. The CIL tanks SMPP package included procurement of screens, carbon and cyanide circulating pumps, steel works on top of the tanks and agitators for Cost Based Estimate. Lwandile also managed all the brown fields’ tie-ins. During design, he managed mechanical designs and integrated designs from other disciplines such as civils and electrical. Furthermore, he would manage the design process between specialized disciplines such as structural (inclusion of dynamic and static forces), fire protection, process/metallurgical etc. He is managing these SMPP contractors, Redis, Wayoe, StefStocks, Jodi from Australia, and Rickman.

Moatize Feasibility Studies Mozambique, for Vale (August 2016 to March 2017) – Commodity - CoalProject Status: StudiesResponsibilities: Mr. Lwandile Gagela was involved in 4 pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for a client called Vale. The first is the optimization of their phase one plant. The second is the construction completion of all close out items from the previous project they had. The third is a stock yard with stackers and reclaimers, rotary crushers and tertiary crushing. The last one is the tailings retreatment plant. Lwandile’s involvement is on selection of all mechanical equipment used ranging from conveyors, crushers, screens, reclaimers, stackers, floatation columns, SMPP(Structural, Mechanical, Platework and Piping).

Gangama Project, Sierra Leone, for Sierra Rutile Limited (February 2016 to July 2016) - Commodity - Rutile (Mineral Sands)Project Status: Construction and commissioning completed in June 2016. Responsibilities: Mr. Lwandile Gagela was assigned as a project mechanical engineer with specific focus on the piping component. Lwandile was

assigned to manage the entire piping scope of works including ensuring that all inline piping equipment was procured, and expedited. His responsibilities further incorporated the management of the piping construction works, including quality management and commissioning the piping systems.

Moatize Expansion Project Mozambique, for Vale (May 2014 to January 2016) – Commodity - CoalProject Status: Construction completed in December and commissioning completed in April 2016Responsibilities: Mr. Lwandile Gagela was assigned to be a senior mechanical consultant and later a site manager for DRA. Lwandile provided technical assistance to Vale team who were managing the construction of the plant. His responsibility included resolving design related construction issues, scope creep management for Structural, Mechanical, Platework and Piping scopes for the Coal Preparation Plant (Dense Medium Separation; flotation; Fines treatment; Thickening, Tails disposal), the Coal Handling Plant (ROM feed; Crushers; Conveyers, Silos; Transfer station; Loading Systems) and Infrastructure (Water reticulation around the mine; Mining Buildings and MCC Fire protection; Waste and Raw Water Treatment Plants; etc . Furthermore, Lwandile was involved in providing civils and electrical interface technical solutions.

His responsibilities further included the management of scope, design change management, design review interface management, installation procedure management and related quality management for the mechanical, structural, plate work and piping scopes.

He also handled site duties ranging from safety to HR issues for the DRA site based technical team.

Ahafo Mill Expansion Project Ghana , Newmont (May 2013 to April 2014) – Commodity was GoldProject Status: Project FEED phase completed Capital Cost: 580 Million USDResponsibilities: Lwandile was assigned as mechanical engineer to manage engineering, procurement, design, construction, installation, testing, training & commissioning of the gold process piping systems and Carbon in Leach tanks and its structures in Ghana. He also Lwandile had to do all tailings plant piping design and estimation of costs especially considering the cyanide contamination. Unfortunately the project had a scope reduction. Then we had to do scopes of works for the scope reduction and in some instances do closeouts.

Ngezi Phase II Concentrator and Mining Expansion Project Zimbabwe , Zimplats (2010 to 2013 May) – Commodity was Platinum Group MetalsProject Status: CompletedCapital Cost: 460 Million USDResponsibilities: Lwandile was assigned to manage engineering, procurement, design, construction, installation, testing, training & commissioning of the concentrator piping systems, fire piping systems, tailings piping systems and services. The piping packages that had to be procured and installed ranged from valves, power packs, pump, cooling systems, storage systems, mixing systems etc. and his main focus was piping where he was a piping engineer. The Piping was from all the dams around the mine, recirculating water, process water, water treatment plants etc. He managed contractors from South Africa who were doing Installations in Zimbabwe through Fidic Contract. One of the contracts alone was having a budget scope of R85 000 000.00. What was exceptional about the project was exposure into contract management and procurement where he managed Cosira whilst they were going through sequestration the followed by liquidation.

Lwandile managed design, procurement, installation, commissioning of the following work packages through FIDIC contract with Cosira Group as the main contractor. His scope of work included but not limited to the below1. 12.9 km of 250 mm Diameter HDPE Lined Pipeline from the concentrator to the tailings dam with specialist closures. 2. Mechanical systems in the tailings, booster station, power packs that control the pinch valves system for the operation of tailings dam.3. Tailings dam wall piping.4. Piping systems in the return water and Ngezi dam weir.5. Infrastructure piping and its mechanical axillaries around the process water, raw water, clear/filtered water dam, balancing dam and process water tank.6. Concentrator reticulation headers

from the above mentioned dams and up to the final point of use. This includes installation of controls valves into the piping system.7. Slurry pump piping systems i.e. rubber lined pipes, final alignment of the pumps and pump suctions. These slurry piping starts from the milling, through floatation up to the tailings area and concentrate storage area. This is a complex piping system which includes a lot of regulating valves, samplers’ in-between, cyclones, screening, floatation cells etc. 8. Instrument air pipe lines to the control valve and other systems of the concentrator.9. Sprinklers and fire hydrants on conveyors and concentrator critical areas like milling, floatation, tailings etc. and also rerouting existing fire line headers.

Consol Role: IS & Mechanical Services Manager - May 2011 – August 2011: Lwandile was responsible for the overall management of the mechanical services and IS services department based in the Consol Nigel Factory. Just for clarity, IS machine is the pneumatic machine that makes the bottle and it has its own department. My main responsibilities were:1. Ensure equipment availability and utilization and enforce effective use of equipment2. Manage the execution of maintenance schedules and adherence to maintenance standards3. Ensure availability of equipment spares 4. Ensure engineering support for job changes5. Ensure that all expenses ( e.g. overtime, spares and projects) are within budget6. Identify and mitigate quality risks based on failure of equipment, and or systems and procedures.7. Develop in depth understanding of applicable plant systems to assist knowledge and problem solving8. Implement and manage improvement projects9. Project planning and execution on IS Machines10. Projects and investigations to increase machine availability and reduce breakdowns11. Creating scheduled maintenance and preventative maintenance strategies.12. Extensive mentoring to all IS Employees with regards to the machines13. Ensure effective training for all staff is done regular basis. I had to do skills matrix of all the artisans

Consol - NigelRole: Mechanical Services Manager - November 2009 – April 2011 Lwandile was leading a team of six junior mechanical engineers to support the operation of 4 Consol plants + 1 sand mine and also the designing, installation and commissioning of mechanical utilities of a new plant.1. All plants report their utilities problems, then the services department facilitates the resolution of the problems, through re-engineering, or specifying equipment and the process2. These problems were run as projects, firstly a scope of work would be clearly identified by doing conceptual designs, once done a budgeting would be drawn and final designs were done. From there tendering documents were put together with auto CAD drawings, and then do adjudications, from there award tender working hand in hand with procurement. Once tenders were awarded Lwandile would ensure that safety requirements are complied to as prescribed. Once it complies with the OSHACT, contractor start installation at Lwandile’s supervision or at supervision of one of his subordinates. Lastly once the project is finished, a proper commissioning and hand over would be done. 3. Leading, mentoring and coaching junior engineers to be able to work efficiently and establish sound relationships with the factories so as to deliver projects of better quality within budget, specified time frames and within technical specifications.4, Standardizing mechanical equipment around the group.5. Overseeing all factory mechanical problems, designs, installations and commissioning.6. Doing feasibility studies and writing technical reports7. Getting scope of work together and do budgeting. Once budget was approved, do designing, overlooking the installation, commissioning and handover.
