Note from the Director Daniel P. Lenz

Our leisure time is a valuable commodity, and for this reason the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department is striving to continually offer a wide variety of activities geared toward fulfilling the needs of all our residents. The

Parks and Recreation Department enhances the quality of life in Warren County by providing attractive, well maintained facilities for our citizenry. We offer affordable, structured activities for all age groups that are recreational, social, cultural, physical, and creative. The staff of the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department proudly presents a listing of programs and activities available in our community for our citizens. We hope that you take some time this fall and winter and explore our parks and facilities. Within this new and larger booklet there is a listing of programs and activities offered for the fall and winter seasons. The recreation directory provides the names and contact information for many of the area’s recreational opportunities, youth sports, and golf course information.

The past year has been an exciting one for our Department. The completion of Phase III (0.60 mile) of Eastham Trail this summer is an exciting capstone for a project that first started in 2007. We also anticipate the completion of Phase III of the William E. Carson Trail at Rockland Park and the installation of a ten exercise stations along the Trail this fall. Once completed, the Carson Trail will connect the Front Royal Golf Club to Rockland Park and will provide approximately three miles of scenic hiking and stunning vistas along the mainstream of the Shenandoah River. The Front Royal Golf Club, established in 1938, continues to offer golf opportunities as your community golf course. We hope that you can come out and “Play the Best 9 Holes in the Shenandoah Valley” while taking in the magnificent views of the adjacent Shenandoah River. For the remainder of the year, you can enjoy our newly-structured lower golf fees and half price memberships. We continue offering tournaments and family events for the recently established 9-hole FootGolf Course that is taking the country by storm. Please visit our website, www.frontroyalgolf.com for the latest information and booking tee times. We hope that you are able to join us as we strive to provide our participants with a caring and sincere atmosphere that values input from each individual. We publish three seasonal booklets annually that are mailed to area residents. You can also pick up a booklet at area businesses, Warren County Parks and Recreation Department, Warren County Community Center, or the Warren County Government Center. A digital copy is also available on the Warren County’s website under the Parks and Recreation page. The current Fall 2017 brochure details a wide variety of community trips, youth and adult activities and special events. Please visit our website at www.warrencountyva.net to stay up to date on all department information, or stop by our department administrative office which provides a home and centralized location for referrals and the dissemination of a wide variety of information on community events, sports and recreation, parks and playground information.

Our Department has enjoyed tremendous success thanks to strong community support and participation.

We look forward to serving you in the future!

During this seminar we will teach you how to prepare a professional resume. 95% of resumes will state, “I worked at John Doe’s Poultry Farm from 2015 – 2016,” and you end it at that. In July 2015, Warren County Parks and Recreation opened the first Certified United States FootGolf Association (USFGA) FootGolf Course in the Shenandoah Valley. The course, which is located at the Front Royal Golf Club (902 Country Club Road, Front Royal) joins over 300 FootGolf courses nationwide. The Front Royal Golf Club FootGolf Course is a Par 32, nine-hole course with 1120 yard length for play.

So what is FootGolf and how is it played? FootGolf is a fast-paced game that combines the skill of soccer with rules of golf and is played on a short course. It does not require a set of golf clubs, but rather is played with the use of your feet and a soccer ball. The game is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball, which is kicked from the tees with the goal of reaching the hole in the fewest strokes possible. The hole is 21″ in diameter and is located several yards away from the regular golfing greens.

FootGolf Course Hours of Operation and Rates: The Front Royal FootGolf Course is open from March until December each year. The cost to play is $7.00 per player for a 9 hole round. Foursomes are $6.00 per player and second 9 holes is $5.00 per player. Each FootGolfer must have his or her own ball. Patrons may bring their own #5 balls or rent them. Regulation #5 soccer balls will be available for rent during all Footgolf course hours for $2.00 per person per day. Soccer shoes with cleats are not allowed; however tennis shoes are acceptable. Reservations are available during scheduled FootGolf Course hours including Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoons from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the FRGC Clubhouse. Tee times can be made through the phone reservation system at (540) 636-9061. For more information please contact the Front Royal Golf Club Clubhouse at (540) 636-9061 or the Parks and Recreation Office at (540) 635-7750.
