    ExECutivE Summary

    Warehouse support in modern day business process has become

    an important focus point since it regulates the inventory in both

    upstream and downstream funcon. The operaons and funcons of

    a warehouse has now become very crical focus point since it denes

    the eciency of a producon and as well as the level of customer

    sasfacon. We are witnessing a high level of acvity, pressure in the

    distribuon part of the supply chain.

    The key to a Companys Distribuon Strategy and protability has

    become focus point thus making the warehouse locaon and funcon a

    vital one. Logiscs cost in the country is around 13 percent of Naonal

    GDP with Warehousing acvies accounng for about 22 - 27 per cent

    of the total Indian logiscs cost. With the economy on the posive

    trend and buoyant market condion Warehouse Services play a crucial

    role in every key area for ensuring end user sasfacon. In such a

    scenario, Sustaining and Enhancing performance levels, requiring

    constant Monitoring, Benchmarking is becoming the order of the day.

    WAREHOUSE CERTIFICATION is a new iniave by Indias Apex

    Industrial body, Confederaon of Indian Industry, which assesses and

    ceres the overall funconality of the warehouse. This Warehouse

    cercaon process will enable the service provider to understand the

    current level and upgrade to the next level, and also helps end user

    to choose their appropriate collaborave partner that will suit their

    supply chain design.

    CII Instute of Logiscs will administer the Warehouse Cercaon

    Process. The level of cercaon has four categories namely, Planum,

    Gold, Silver and Bronze, based on the overall funcons of warehouse

    encompassing the various factors for ecient funconing.

    Warehouse cercaon will help in develop a road map for future

    growth, set benchmarks and have dened improvement plan. This

    process will also help in integrang the intra and inter linkage of the

    supply chain which will certainly benet all those associated in thisprocess.

    Warehouse Cercaon will benet all the warehouses which already

    exist, new generaon ones, those funconing under the Logiscs Park,

    SEZ, FTWZ.

    In the present context of global business scenario, the management isconstantly on the lookout for enhancing eciency, performance andthe protability. The manufacturing has always been closely monitored

    acvity while the sourcing and the distribuon are becoming complex

    and challenging. The distance between the supplier, manufacturer and

    the consumers is ever growing. With the increase in product range,customer base, customer demand, the performance of an organizaon

    is challenged. The one strong emerging trend is the opmizaon of

    the Supply Chain process, in which the Warehousing is becoming a

    dierenator for success.

    The warehouse support has become an integral part of the strategic

    decision making process. The funcon of a warehouse from merestorage concept has now developed in to a mulfaceted acvity centre.

    The variety of the value added service that is being provided is enabling

    many organizaons to opmize their resource and prots. Needless

    to say the demand for value addion acvity is also connuously

    increasing for achieving the customer sasfacon. The warehouse is

    now looked as prot centre even by the organizaon managing their

    own warehouses.

    The Supply Chain at various stages is adopng dierent tools and

    techniques to suit their funcons and requirement to opmize their

    overall eciency. Manufacturing adopts to Milk Run, Kan Ban, Two bin

    system, JIT, Postponement decisions, Lean concepts, etc. The markeng

    team adopts to strategies like Hub & spoke, Channel distribuon, direct

    markeng, promoonal sales, etc. The aer sales aims at least down

    me of their product and high customer sasfacon by various SLAs

    and AMCs.

    All the above system is now becoming more and more dependent on

    a good, ecient and dependable warehouse system. The warehouse

    is now becoming a high transacon centric, there by demanding

    performance, eciency, value addion, cost saving etc.

    Sectors like retail, pharma, food, electronics, FMCG, bulk commodies

    are now adding new dimensions to the funcons of the warehouse. The

    present users of warehouse are from dierent vercals with variees.

    With gradual improvement in the logiscs infrastructure like dedicated

    freight corridors, logisc parks, coastal shipping, the exim cargo will

    also witness huge acvity. The GDP growth being projected at 7%, the

    growth of the logisc sector is expected to be in the range of 20%.

    With huge investment happening, buoyant manufacturing acvity and

    mass distribuon taking place, the movement of materials will be even

    at a higher pace. All this will lead in to the increase in the warehouse

    requirement with good service levels. The warehouse funcon is set to

    be an key factor in Supply Chain design.

    Dierent Levels of cercaon are awarded based on the total points

    earned.

    Each level has mandatory requirement which has to sasfy basic

    mandatory criteria.

    The cercaon is valid for 2 years. On compleon of 2 years

    cercaon is renewable based on the prevailing version.
