Morning Tea at the Melo Saturdays from 10am to about 12 noon. All ladies welcome, no RSVP required. Cost K12 & includes tea or coffee, scones or biscuits. Good chance to catch up at the end of the week.

Canasta & Majong Canasta – Thursday Majong – Fridays Both upstairs at the Golf Club from 9am to 12noon. No experience required, we’re more there for the social morning than serious cards! Bring your own cup/drink/m’tea - the golf club provides boiling water. No RSVP is required just turn up.

Upcoming Events 19 November: Lae Golf Club AGM Be at the golf club for 5:30pm 20 November: Morning Tea at Chigi’s There are quite a few new ladies in town and before the mass Christmas exodus, we thought it would be nice to have a morning "Meet & Greet" at Chigi's for those ladies. So, if you are one of the new ladies, or you know of some, please encourage them to come to Chigi's Coffee Shop at Brian Bell on Tuesday the 20th of November at 10.30am. The morning is open to everyone, so please come along. Chigi's would like to know of an estimated number before the morning, so please let us know if you will be attending. Email Carolyn at earlychicks@gmail.com 24 November: Lae Amateur Swimming Club Final swimming carnival for 2012. If you have children who are thinking of joining the Club, it would be great it they could come down and check it all out. Starts around 9am at the Coronation College swimming pool. There will be a BBQ and drinks for sale. 28 November: Pearl Exhibition Peter the Pearl Man from the Cook Islands will be at the Melanesian Hotel. Please pop in to have a look at his beautiful pearls. You may find yourself a lovely Christmas present. 30 November: Piwi Fishing Piwi Fishing at the Lae Yacht Club at 4pm. Bring the kids down to the LYC for an afternoon of fishing on the jetties. No fishing gear is required - all is supplied. 6 December: TISOL Christmas Concert Tisol Christmas Concert at 5pm. Tisol is hosting a

Talent Show / Christmas Carols. All are welcome to come and enjoy the entertainment and fun. The Tisol P&F will be holding a sausage sizzle from 5pm before the show starts at 5.30pm. Bring a matt or a picnic rug to sit on. 7 December: Early Chicks Christmas Drinks At the Lae International Hotel Aero Bar at 6pm. No entry or membership fees, just pop in for a drink and some nibblies. There will also be another jeweller selling his wares at Early Chicks. Peter (yes, another Peter) makes the gorgeous PNG jewellery that you might envy on other ladies in town. Definitely well worth a look. 8 December: Lae Yacht Club Kid’s Xmas Party For member's children only. Starting from 11am on Saturday, 8th December. Including a jumping castle, face painting, kid’s movies, free ice cream and drinks for kids, Santa Clause, Tiny Teddy. Please write your children's names and ages up on the lists at the LYC to that they can have a visit from Santa. 9 December: Lae Golf Club Kid’s Xmas Party Ages 12 yrs & under. K20 per child (pay to Mary in the office). Starts at 2:30pm with food, drinks & music. 3:00pm is Santa’s arrival with presents! Please have your child’s name up on the sheet at the club house by 23rd Nov so Santa has enough time to gather presents.

General Information Lae Yacht Club Coffee Shop - Now Open The LYC Coffee Shop is finally up and running. Open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 7am to 3pm. Selling Espresso, Macchiato, Latte, Cappuccino, Flat White, Long Black, Mocha, Hot Chocolate and even Baby Chinos. Over the coming weeks expect to see cakes, croissants, cookies, brownies etc. New Regular Activities Check out the two new additions to the “Regular Activities” section on the far left of this page. Recipe of the week

Mango ice-cream Transport yourself to Indochine with just one bite of this fruity and aromatic ice-cream dessert.

Ingredients • 300ml thickened light cream • 250ml (1 cup) skim milk • 8 cardamom pods, crushed • 800g can sliced mango, drained • 400g can Nestle Skim Sweetened Condensed Milk Tropical fruit, to serve Method Line a 11 x 21cm (base measurement) loaf pan with 2 layers of plastic wrap, allowing the sides to overhang. Combine the cream, milk and cardamom in a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and set aside for 30 minutes to infuse. Meanwhile, process the mango in a food processor until smooth. Strain the cream mixture into a small bowl, using the back of a spoon to press the cardamom pods in the sieve. Add the condensed milk. Use an electric beater to beat the cream mixture for 15 minutes or until it thickens slightly. Fold in the mango. Spoon into the prepared pan. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the freezer overnight or until firm. Remove the ice-cream from the freezer 10 minutes before serving. Turn the ice-cream onto a serving platter. Remove the plastic wrap and discard. Top the ice-cream with tropical fruit.

Special Christmas Recipe

White Christmas Slice This festive slice is a delicious delight for kids as well as grown-ups!

Ingredients • 500g white chocolate melts • 1 1/2 cups rice bubbles • 100g red glace cherries, halved • 160g almonds, roasted, halved • 160g sultanas • 1 cup (90g) desiccated coconut • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Method Line a 30cm x 20cm (base) baking pan with baking paper. Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water (don’t let bowl touch water). Fold in the remaining ingredients. Pour mixture into the prepared pan, pressing down with a large metal spoon. Refrigerate for 4 hours or until set. Turn slice onto a chopping board. Using a knife that has been dipped in hot water, cut into squares. Serve.
