What does it mean to be lucky? A study on luck asked children how much they liked each of the following children: Jane, who found $5 on the sidewalk; Jim, who helped his mum bake a cake; Sue, who took a toy from her little brother. The researchers were stunned by how much children liked lucky Jane. While they also quite liked helpful Jim, Lucky Jane was the most popular. We are all drawn to people who seem to have life going their way, who are happy, optimistic, successful – and lucky! (HF Hodder-Harvard Magazine)
Do we think we have no control over luck? Some students think they keep on getting low marks because they are unlucky and this somehow influences the questions in the test. Here’s a secret. It’s usually not the test’s fault that the student gets low marks.
Researchers have found that lucky people are far more satisfied with all areas of their lives than unlucky people. They expect good things to happen so they focus on the positive aspects and that is what they remember, not the bits that went wrong. Unlucky people tend to focus on the negative aspects of life. Research tells us that most lucky people create their own good luck. They see what is there rather, than just what they are looking for. General Knowledge *Does Australia lie north, south, east or west of Asia? *What kind of power is stored in a battery? *Who wrote The Man From Snowy River? *What do the letters P.T.O. stand for at the bottom of the page.? *What does the term “jack-of-all trades” mean?

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS FOR 2012
Through sufficient voluntary helpers, the canteen is able to contain costs which means the savings can be passed on in the form of lower prices and allowing the canteen to stay open. We are running the canteen 3 days a week Tuesday, Wednesdays & Fridays needing 2 to 3 people on each day. If you have some spare time, once a month, we need you. If you are a new mum to the school or your last child is off to school we need you. Dads and grandparents are also most welcome as well It’s a great way to meet other parents in the school community. We are sure you will understand for safety reasons we can’t have under 5’s in the canteen whilst you are helping. Please return the TEAR OFF strip below to the canteen if you are able to help in 2012 If you have any further questions please contact Melissa Leitch in the canteen on 9521-4514. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

BOOKCLUB Australian Mobile Recycling
Australian Mobile Recycling is a new company specialising in the
recycling and refurbishment of used mobile phones.
They have more than ten years of experience in this field and are
currently recycling in 3 separate countries internationally.
Australian Mobile Recycling realise there are numerous demands
on schools today that are both costly on time and effort. For this
reason they wish to offer $3 CASH for every unwanted mobile
phone received.
So please send any unwanted mobile phones to school and place in
the yellow box in the office labelled ‘Australian Mobile Recycling”.
Thank you for helping to raise money for our school.
