Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Margan Restaurant Excursion The excursion to Margan’s Restaurant Garden was a great success. The children came back extremely excited as did the staff that were lucky enough to go on this excursion. The children were involved in a variety of activities and came back to school with some tasty vegetables. We used these vegetables in our cooking the next day. Parent Helpers We have been fortunate enough to receive a grant from NSW Minerals Council and Peabody Energy who have given us $1000 to support our sustainability program which includes our Kitchen Garden program and the costs for building the pizza oven. Representatives came out today to present the donation to us and have a look at the wonderful work we are doing at Milbrodale. I would like to thank the NSW Minerals Council and Peabody Energy for supporting our school. Intensive Swimming- Don’t Forget The students will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive swimming program again this year. We would like to thank Bulga Underground Coal- Glencore for sponsoring this program and providing the entry fee and paying the bus expenses for this program. The children will be travelling to Singleton Gym and Swim each day from Monday 25
th November to
Friday 29th
November. We will be leaving Milbrodale School at 11:30am and returning by 3pm. The children will have two lessons each day with a short break in between the lessons. There will be no opportunity for the children to buy anything at the pool until the Friday as we are on a tight time frame to get the students back to school by 3pm. Please encourage your child to practice getting dressed quickly as this is what takes the most time on the day.
The Big Draw
As part of Singletons Place making community we have the opportunity to be involved in the Big Draw. On Wed 11
th Dec the students will get to work with an artist to
create their own special place within the community. The day will include the chance to paint a design on a banner that will be displayed at Singleton Visitor Centre over the Christmas holidays. Please find attached a publicity consent form to be completed and returned to the school.

Margan Kitchen Garden excursion with Mrs Barnes
Last week we had the pleasure of visiting the Margan Kitchen Garden, just
down the road from our school. It proved to be a valuable learning
experience. Pat, the gardener had some lessons set up and we learnt how to
pot up plants and take cuttings from rosemary. The children were treated as
very special visitors on the day. The garden was very extensive and provided
great examples of what we could do in our own school garden one day.
We were particularly proud of the children on this excursion; their behaviour was outstanding .They asked really great questions
and also loved telling Pat about their own garden at home and at school.
The children were keen to write about their visit when they got back to their school. There is something so inspiring about an
excursion like this that leads the children to extend their writing and imagination even further. The students wrote some great
recounts, after a lesson on using adjectives in their writing to make their writing more interesting. The results of their descriptive
writing are below:
Stories from Milbrodale Students about the visit to Margan Restaurant Garden:
We saw a ginormous garden. I had to scavenger hunt for food. I wish I had a bird’s eye view of this garden.- Matthew
On Wednesday the 13th
of November, we went to Margan’s Garden. It was enormous and it had delicious food.
It was a very beautiful feeling, I felt so fresh. It was a great feeling to have! It was lovely and peaceful there. It was a very pretty
and friendly feeling to go to Margan’s garden.
The lady had chooks and they were very nice and strong chooks. We collected some runny and smooth eggs. We accidently
dropped some but the lady was very lovely and said,’ that’s okay. ‘We got to pick some sweet, spicy and healthy food out of her
garden. Her name was Pat and she was very lovely. -Jasmine
On the 13th
of November we went to Pat’s garden, which was so, so, so, so beautiful. We planted big seeds. Pat was a lovely
lady. We picked spuds and carrots, which are called ‘circle carrots’, and red radishes. She had lots of strawberries, when I got
there. It was peaceful and great.
She had lots of strawberries, when I got there. We collected the eggs and there was a clucky chook.-Maddison
I went to Pat’s garden. It was pretty. I saw an enormous vegetable patch. -Amalie
The ants bit me and I screamed. I collected food. I collected potatoes and carrot and radishes and asparagus. It looked yummy
and the garden was BIG! -William
I was going to the garden. I saw the owner going over to the garden. I picked some of
the vegetables. I picked a potato. I also picked a radish. The radishes are pink. – Olivia
There was a carrot what looked like a radish. I got some potatoes out of the ground. I
wish that I was a bird and I had a bird’s eye view. – Aaron
The potatoes were gigantic- Travis
Potatoes, carrots are hard and are dirty. They live in the soil. – Logan
