Hello Ladies,
I hope this finds all of you in good health...I know Polly, Marge and Carol Grantham were a little under the weather, hope and pray you all are bet-ter. OK!!!!! WOW, WOW, WOW ! ! ! ! Cindy Hewett and I went to the GFWC-NC State Convention held in Atlantic Beach at the Sheraton... and had a great time...so much to learn and so many people to talk to... You know me I can talk to a fencepost. I know all of you that have been to conven-tion know that you have to stand when the President and the Executive Board come in for the meetings and dinners.. Well I for one think that is a great idea...so, get ready to stand ladies....no not really.. Just kidding! LOL!! Cindy and I do have some wonderful news to share with all of you from the Convention. It was very exciting. So I hope all of you will be able to attend our May 23rd meeting at Jerome's Steakhouse. We will order from the menu and a 20% gratuity will be added to each of our bills. This will also be our scholarship shower, so don't forget your gift card, gifts, etc.. Brooke Bradsher and Anna Barefoot will be our special guests. Each of these young ladies will be presented with a $75 gift from the Club!

Our GFWC-SBI Executive Board met on Monday, May 9th at Jones Ford. Another productive
meeting with several ideas being exchanged. The following recommendation is being pre-
sented for consideration by club members:
(1) To donate $500 to the 2nd Annual GFWC NC Links 4 Literacy Golf Tournament. This dona-
tion would support the GFWC-NC Teaching Scholarship. With this $500 donation, GFWC-
SBI would be an event Sponsor. As a Level 3 ($500) sponsor, we would be listed in the
program, on the banner, and on the GFWC-NC website. We would also receive recognition
on the event t-shirt and we would be entitled to one entry in the tournament.
As a result of last year’s Links 4 Literacy Golf Tournament, a $2,500 scholarship was awarded
to a rising college junior who will be an elementary school teacher upon graduation. Addition-
ally, $100 was awarded to each of the other contestants at the State Competition. This
year’s event will be held on Friday, September 30th at the Riverwood Golf Course, in Clayton.
Cindy Hewett will once again serve as the Co-Chair of the event. Last year we raised $16,000
and are hoping to do equally as well this year!! BTW: WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!

The following are the minutes from our April Club Meeting. Minutes
will be presented and voted on at our May Club Meeting. Thank you,
Rainey Ashley!!
It sure pays to read the label….Why didn’t anyone tell me sooner….It’s the sham-poo I use in the shower. When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body. Printed very clearly on the label it reads, ―FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY.‖ I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start using DAWN dish detergent. Its label reads, ―DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE.‖ Problem solved!! It sure pays to read the label!!
The following is our April Budget Activity. It will be presented and
voted on at the May Club Meeting. Thank you, Rebecca Redd!!

Luncheon for Brunswick Beacon As many of you may know the GFWC was founded by Jane Cunningham Croly, a journalist who wrote un-der the pen name of Jennie June. Ms. Croly decided to start the Women’s Club after being denied access to an event where Charles Dickens was the guest speaker. The event was for men only– of course, this was back in the late 1800’s. Nonetheless, we are still going strong today, as a result of her efforts.
In honor of Federation Day, GFWC-SBI provided a luncheon to the staff of the Brunswick Beacon as a way to say thank you for all of their support over the years. Cindy Hewett and Eileen Brown delivered and setup the luncheon on behalf of our members. The Beacon staff were treated to subs, chips, and cookies along with, homemade pasta salad, a layered salad, and pound cake. Many thanks to each of you who contributed to this project. They were very much appreciative of the delicious goodies!
Our April Heart of the Month goes to Eileen Brown for her out-standing contributions to our club. Congratulations, Eileen!!
We will continue with a “”Teapot Auction” at our May Meeting with 100% of the proceeds being donated to Disaster Relief for NC Tornado Victims.
Tickets will be $5.00 each. All donations are greatly appreciated!!
Thanks to your generosity, we raised $280 for Japan Disaster Relief!
The 2011 Relay for Life kicked off on Friday, May 13th
at West Brunswick High School. It was another suc-
cessful year with over $260,000 raised for the Ameri-
can Cancer Society. Many thanks to all of our members
who supported the Relay in whatever capacity it may
have been: volunteering, donating desserts or monetary
donations. The Shallotte Juniors would like to extend
their appreciation for our support. Nice Job, Ladies!!
Thank you.. Thank you!
