FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents, Students and Well-wishers,
Mobile phones are today a habit and our
dependence on it cannot be wished away. It is
convenient and enhances accessibility. In
addition, technology has ensured that such
phones have multiple functions and can be used
for wide purpose. The possibilities of
communication have now become limitless.
While accepting the huge scope these phones
have provided , let us not forget such powerful technologies can be misused
deliberately or unknowingly. Certain cases of misuse have been brought to our
notice . We are concerned that if some preventive measures are not taken, the
consequences of misuse could be catastrophic. Children are impressionable and their
reaction to certain situation could result in adverse situation by which they
themselves may be affected.
After due deliberation and considering the possibilities of preventing misuse ,it was
decided that the students up to Class X will not be allowed to bring mobile phones to
school. The students of Class XI and XII are permitted to bring their mobile phones.
However ,the mobiles will be deposited to a person deputed by school, before the
student enters the premises. The mobile phones will be returned to such students
prior to their departure from school.
Few eminent principals had received an invitation from AUB to visit them. I must
thank AUB for extending an invitation to me and be a part of the illustrious team
that visited AUB this summer.
Mr. Ronald Jones, Education Minister of
Barbados met us and even accompanied to
some of their schools. I wish to share with
you an interesting piece of information
that I gathered at AUB. AUB is an ideal
place to pursue education in medicine. The
cost of studying medicine in AUB is one-
tenth less than the universities in the US.
More importantly, they offer internship
and training in the US.
Warm regards
John Andrew Bagul

On 18th June 2017, Mrs.

There were around Twenty one schools participating in the
preliminary round of XQuiz' 17. It was held in St. Xavier's
Collegiate School auditorium on 24th June 2017 from 10:30
am onwards. Many leading schools of Kolkata participated in
it. Some of the schools were Don Bosco Park Circus, Shri
Shikashayatan, Loreto House, St. James', Modern High,
Loreto Entally, The Heritage, DPS Ruby Park to name a few.
There were Twenty six questions asked at the preliminary
stage, where the answer for each question was in the
alphabetical order. Eight teams were selected for the final
which consisted of eight rounds. The quiz masters were two
former ex students of the host school and they were Dhruv
Mukherjee and Aditya Prasanna Bhattarcharya. The SCIS
participants Rajit Banerjee, Subhaditya Basu, Wrik
Karmakar and Aritra Kar secured the first position with 170
points followed by the host school i.e. St. Xavier's Collegiate
School with 150 points and the third position was secured by
Modern High School with 140 points.
On the 13th, 14th and 15th of May, La Martiniere Calcutta hosted the 8th Edition of LMCMUN wherein SCIS sent 10
delegates. We were provided with a wide array of committees to choose from and lastly we ended up sending delegates to
the UNODC, HSC, SFC and the General Assembly: SPECPOL. Sasha Agarwal and I, Snigdha Negi represented Saudi
Arabia at UNODC. About half of the delegates were first timers, who have indeed gained forward motion and motivation
to continue MUN. Along with making memories that would never fade, we returned with an honorable mention to
symbolize our efforts.
Snigdha Negi
Head Delegate- LMCMUN 2017
On the 20st, 21st and 22nd of June, 7 students of our school attended the
JacoMUN conference hosted by St James' School at ITC Sonar Bangla.
We attended an orientation at St James' School on the 19th, where we
were briefed about our agenda, aspects that our Executive Boards would look favourably on and the type of procedure we would be following. This
orientation, in addition, was a platform for us to lobby with allied countries and portfolios as well as clarify doubts regarding further proceedings.
Coming to the conference, a Model United Nations Conference is essentially a simulation of a conventional organ or agency of the United Nations, or
an unconventional summit, war cabinet or crisis solving body. Jaco MUN had nine such committees, ranging from a Historic Security Council to the
Iraqi War Cabinet to a futuristic Council of Defence Ministers.
Moderated by an excellent Executive Board with particularly stiff competition, JacoMUN 2017 was a learning experience for every delegate. It
seasoned our ability to research and use facts to our benefit, to debate spontaneously and write communiqués and resolutions. Feedback sessions
with our respective EBs also served to throw light on areas that we needed to focus on.
Model United Nations is a platform that isn't restricted to public speaking or paperwork, but shapes us as a person, teaching us to attain a balance
between diplomacy, conviction and force.
SCIS Interact Club did us proud when they received awards for five categories at the District Interact Award
Function on Tuesday,27th June at Rotary Sadan . The coveted awards were for the Interact District 3291 Award
2016-17—Concern for Society, Community Service (Medical), Literacy, Concern for Physically Challenged
Concern for Senior Citizens and Orphans.

MORNING ASSEMBLIES
Class III D
Topic – World Music Day
Music is the language of the soul.
SCIS celebrated World Music Day on 21st June 2017.
It is impossible to imagine life without music.
The students of Class III D presented a wonderful
assembly which emphasized the same notion.
They spoke about the importance of music and
re-energized the audience through their singing.
Philosopher House Assembly- 27th June 2017
The Primary Philosophers made the school aware of the meaning and
importance of their House motto- Semper Sursuin, which means Always Aim
High.
The children cited examples from the lives of great personalities who had
overcome all odds in life to reach their goals and target, example Dr. A.P.J
Abdul Kalam, Pele, J.K. Rowling etc.
The Assembly was concluded with a the message that one must always aim high
and reach out for the stars.
Bidding Farewell to ms. Sudha volz, primary teacher
