MADAD: Caring for Indian students abroad

In an effort to help students abroad, Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj launched a Students Registration Module on the MADAD portal. Students can register on the website, www.madad.gov.in. This will help the Government to keep in touch with the students and also reach them in the case of an emergency.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is setting up centres across the country to ensure fast and comprehensive aid for women in distress. The centres will also deliver services such as temporary shelters, medical assistance, legal counselling and Pyscho-social counselling.

WHO commends India for elimination of yaws, maternal & neonatal tetanus

Declaring India free of yaws, maternal and neonatal tetanus, WHO presented a certificate to the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mr J P Nadda.

The certificate was presented during the 69th Session of the WHO regional committee for south-east Asia region held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. India has become the first country to be acknowledged as being yaws-free.

Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region goes live on e-Office

The Ministry Of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) went live as e-office on 6 September 2016. The staff members and respective officials have been in training from July to get an understanding of the e-system.

The digital shift is aimed to help digitize the official procedures and maintain a smooth audit of entries by shifting from manpower to digital system. The e-office platform ensures an audit trail of all entries and correspondence, thus providing an unprecedented level of accountability.

India launches its weather satellite INSAT-3DR

The Indian Space Research Organisation launched the INSAT-3DR, an advanced weather satellite that will provide a variety of meteorological services from Sriharikota on 8th September 2016

INSAT-3DR is an advanced meteorological (weather observation) satellite designed by India to provide a variety of inputs essential for accurate weather forecasting. The INSAT-3DR carries a satellite aided Search and Rescue Transponder that picks up and relays alert signals originating from distress beacons of maritime, aviation and land based users.

All academic degrees to be digitized by 2017

Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the National Academic Depository in a step towards the Digital India vision. An online database of all academic certificates, the depository will enable the building of an authentic and transparent platform.

During the address, Shri Javadekar said “It is high time the academic awards are verified and authenticated, accessed and retrieved in a digital depository.”

Mandi and Sindhudurg declared as the cleanest districts

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj on 8th September 2016 released the ‘Swachh Survekshan’ for rural India, declaring Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) as the cleanest districts in India.

12 agreements make India and Vietnam stronger

In the run up to the 10th anniversary of Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam, a new stage for bilateral relations was set. The Prime Ministers of both countries welcomed the developments in recent years which have led to a continuous strengthening of the partnership. In light of these talks, India announced a new Defence Line of Credit for Vietnam of USD five hundred million for facilitating deeper defence cooperation with Vietnam.

The two countries also signed 12 strategic agreements focusing on exploration and uses of outerspace for peaceful purposes, agreement on avoidance of double taxation, health cooperation, IT cooperation, cyber security and agreement on contract and design, building of boat in India, equipment supply and technology transfer.

Soil Health Cards reach more than 2.81 crore farmers

Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare initiated the Soil Health Card Scheme for the welfare of the farmers in February 2015. The card examines, evaluates and reviews the complete quality of the soil right from its functional characteristics of water and nutrient content and other biological properties. It will also indicate the accurate measures that a farmer should act upon to obtain a quality yield.

Soil Health Card scheme as on 14th September 2016 has dispatched 2,81,77,903 soil cards to farmers.

4.63 crore job creators funded

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana was launched on 8th April, 2015 and it provides refinance support to banks/MFIs for lending to micro units having loan requirement of upto 10 lakh. As on 14th September, 2016, more than 4.63 cr entrepreneurs have been funded.

In 2015-2016, 43% of total amount disbursed was provided to new entrepreneurs

The disbursement target assigned to Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana has been over-achieved in 2015-2016

More than 53 lakh households are now smoke-free

The government launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana on 1st May, 2016 with an aim to provide free LPG connections for families below BPL. The government has allocated a budget of Rs. 8,000 crore for the distribution of around 5 crore LPG connections in a period of 3 years.

The scheme empowers women and protects their health by eliminating the chances of hazardous respiratory diseases caused by fossil fuel based cooking. 53,99,978 BPL households have now received a LPG connection making way for a cleaner nation.

UJALA: Making way for a brighter future

The objective of UJALA or Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All is to promote efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment which reduce electricity bills as well as to preserve the environment. Under the scheme, over 15 crore (15,85,87,167 as on 14th September 2016) LED bulbs have been distributed which has led to energy savings of about 5,58,31,474 kWh per day.

The scheme has also saved more than Rs. 22 crore cost per day in consumer bills. The scheme targets replacing 77 crore energy inefficient bulbs by the year 2019.
