Lily is a little girl, who is shy and reserved. But she enjoys playing soccer. Her friends and classmates ridicule Lily for her interest in soccer. Nonetheless, she is determined to pursue her passion and become a successful soccer player.Every day, after returning from school, Lily quickly nishes her homework and practices soccer. Her mother understands the love Lily has for the sport and supports her in every way.

When the interschool competitions are announced at the school, Lily decides to participate. She takes part in the selection trials, and her classmates mock her once again. But they are shocked when Lily performs well and the judges select her to represent the school. Lily's commitment and hard work mute every person who mocked her.Determination, strong will, and focus can help you achieve even the toughest of goals, in spite of ridicule by others.

As you would expect, the shark quickly swam around the tank, attacked and ate the smaller sh.

Many of us, after experiencing setbacks and failures, emotionally give up and stop trying. Like the shark in the story, we believe that because we were unsuccessful in the past, we will always be unsuccessful. In other words, we continue to see a barrier in our heads, even when no 'real' barrier exists between where we are and where we want to go.

During a research experiment a marine biologist placed a shark into a large holding tank and then released several small bait sh into the tank.

Again, the shark quickly attacked. This time, however, the shark slammed into the berglass divider and bounced off. Undeterred, the shark kept repeating this behaviour every few minutes to no avail. Meanwhile, the bait sh swam around unharmed in the second partition. Eventually, about an hour into the experiment, the shark gave up.

The marine biologist then inserted a strong piece of clear berglass into the tank, creating two separate partitions. She then put the shark on one side of the berglass and a new set of bait sh on the other.

This experiment was repeated several dozen times over the next few weeks. Each time, the shark got less aggressive and made fewer attempts to attack the bait sh, until eventually the shark got tired of hitting the berglass divider and simply stopped attacking altogether.

The marine biologist then removed the berglass divider, but the shark didn't attack. The shark was trained to believe a barrier existed between it and the bait sh, so the bait sh swam wherever they wished, free from harm.

Association Activities

INAUGURATION OF ASSOCIATION OF CS&HM

The department in association with Chef Extraordinaire organized a Cookery Competition Master Chef Style Cook

Off Competition themed on Pan-Asian Cuisine on 13Jul. 2018. There was also a demonstration on Thai Cuisine by

Chef Ram Kumar, Va Pho Restaurant, Coimbatore. Around 30 teams including hotel management students and

home makers took part in the competition.

A guest lecture on Career Path in Culinary Field was organized on 19 Jun. 2018 for the final year students. The

lecture was delivered by Mr.Vijaykumar V, Night Supervisor, Hotel Clarion, Canada (AB).

WORKSHOPS ORGANIZED

COOKERY COMPETITION

A guest lecture on Opportunities in Hospitality Industry in the Middle East was delivered by Mr.Muthukumar,

Jr.Sous Chef, Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah, Dubai on 13Jul. 2018 for the department students.

A workshop on Vegetable and Fruit Carving was organized in association with SICA on 30 & 31Jul. 2018. Chef.

Umasankar Dhanpal, winner of IKA/Culinary Olympics 2012 & 2016 was the trainer of the program. Chefs, faculty

and students from Bangalore, Chennai, Pondicherry, Waynad, Tuticorin, Salem, Madurai, Sivakasi, Dindigul and

Coimbatore participated in the workshop.

The association of Catering Science & Hotel Management was inaugurated on 18 Aug. 2018 by Chef Anand

Ramakrishnan, Executive Sous Chef, Kempinski, Dubai who is an elite alumnus of the department.

ALUMNI MEET

GUEST LECTURES

Alumni of the first batch of the college, 1987-1990 batch, met on 17 Jul. 2018. They interacted with the present

students and guided them on preparations to be made to face the hospitality industry and about placement.

An Alumni Meet of the students belonging to 1990-1993 batch was held on 21Jul. 2018. They had a consequential

interaction with the present students and assured them assistance in placements.

A workshop on Skilled Technology Upgradation Program in Bakery & Confectionary Products was organized in

association with Karaikudi Bakery Owners Association from 6to 10Aug. 2018. Bakery chefs, bakery owners, home

makers and students from the states of Odisha, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala participated in the workshop.

The participants were trained by Chef Kaleeswaran. Mr. Tetsuya Komori, Chief Operating Officer, 3F Fuji Foods Pvt

Ltd, Japan took part in the event.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

A demonstration program on Fire Safety and Life Saving Skills was organized on 13 Oct. 2018, for

which Mr. Narasimhan B, Fire Safety Officer of SNR Sons Charitable Trust was the resource person.

A part of and Industrial visit: The first year students were taken to The Residency Towers, Coimbatore on 11 Sep. 2018. The visit was organized with a view to give an orientation to the fresher's about the

operations and functions of the various departments of a five star hotel. The second year students were taken to Heritage Winery, Mysore on 15 Oct. 2018. The visit was

Inauguration:The Department of English inaugurated the Association, English Literary Club and Lit-Aura on 9 Sep. 2017. Prof. Maheshwari R, Associate Professor of English, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore was the chief guest. Her enthusiastic speech ignited and enlightened the young minds to think out of box. She also motivated the students to set goals and move towards them without distraction. The speaker in her address spoke on the role of extracurricular and co-curricular activities in shaping one's personality. Prizes were distributed to the students who have won prizes in the literary competitions conducted during the month of July and August. Dr. Deena S, Vice Principal presided over the programme and Dr. Hannah Revathy F, Dean, School of Science & Humanities felicitated the gathering.

A guest lecture on “Genesis of Drama” was organized on 05 Mar. 2018. The speaker for the lecture was Dr. Santhakumari R, Retd. Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. The lecture was on the origin and development of drama, common elements of drama and its expressions, the structure and theatre design. The three hour lecture on drama helped the students to explore the genre methodologically. The interactive session helped the students to clarify their doubts related to the field of drama.

In August, to commemorate the Independence Day, a series of competitions viz. Story Telling, Elocution, Spell Bee and Poetry Writing were conducted for the students of English Literature and also for those from other disciplines. The winners were honoured with prizes and certificates.

Job Oriented Course aims at providing practical knowledge to students, thereby helping them to find work as soon as they complete the course. The second year undergraduate students of English Literature attended a three day Job Oriented Course on the topic “Pedagogical Principles of English Language Teaching” on 10, 11 & 12 Mar. 2018.The three day programme provided hands on training on teaching and learning the genres poetry, prose and drama. It also focused on teaching and learning English as a second language. The course was handled by Dr. Rathnasabapathi K and his assistant faculty members at Anglophonics Institute, Coimbatore.

The English Clubs, ELC & Lit-Aura, coalesced with the Department of English to conduct “Lit-Treat'18-A Feast of Happiness” a one-day Inter-Collegiate fest, exclusively for students of Literature, on 22 Mar. 2018. Various on and off stage competitions viz. Literary Quiz (Shotgun Scholar), Dubsmash (Dare to Dub), Mime (Pantomime), Skit (Footlights) etc. were conducted in different venues inside the college premises. Close to 90 students from colleges across the Coimbatore district participated in the same and had an eventful day. The winners and participants were honoured with prizes and certificates during the Valedictory session which was presided over by Dr. Deena S, the Vice Principal & Dr. Hannah Revathy F, Dean, School of Science & Humanities.

The College has signed an MOU with The Hindu Group to introduce STEP - Standardized Test of English Proficiency - Online English Training Course to enhance English proficiency of the first year undergraduate students of all the departments. The course offered 40 hours Online Training and 20 hours Face to Face Training to improve their LSRW- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills. Online Training paved way for the students to apply the lessons that they had learnt through the course. In the Face to Face Training students were divided into smaller groups and trained to take part in language related activities. The students enthusiastically participated in the training.

FINE ARTS CLUB

Fantabulous 2018: Cultural Fest held at Nehru College of Arts and Science on 6 Oct. 2018. Our students won

First Prize in Adzap, Photography and Quiz. Also won Second Prize in Best Actor and Third Prize in Facial

painting. Students were also recognized as Overall Winners of the event.

Anthariksh 2018: 58 students participated in the All India Collegiate Cultural Fest Anthariksh-18 on 26 Oct.

2018, held at Nehru College of Aeronautical & Applied Sciences. Students were recognized as the Overall

Winners for the second time straight. 75 colleges participated in the event, our Students won Eight, 1st prizes,

Eight 2nd prizes and Four 3rd prizes.

Photography Workshop: A two day photography workshop on Life Love Infinite to Focus Everything was

conducted on 22 and 23 Sept. 2018. Sukumaran Sundar (Independent Cinematographer – Tamil Film Industry)

was the Resource Person.

CLUB ACTIVITIES

On 20 Jul. 2018, Launching of Startups/ Campus Companies was organized. Yuka Kawanishi, Human Resocia

Co.,ltd. Tokyo was the Chief Guest.

Maker Camp was organized on 9, 10, 12 and 13 Aug. 2018 by Innovation Centre in association with Fablabz

for Science students. The main outcome of the maker camp is to make the students to know about the Arduino

Sensor Boards and make them to learn about Sensors, Robotics and IoT.

On 10 Aug. 2018, Base Camp was organized in association with Globe Hand for Science Students. The main

outcome of the base camp is to make the students to know about Arduino Basics and Sensors and make them

to learn about the product development with use of Sensors.

On 24 and 25 Sep. 2018 Proto Camp, Globe hand Student Campus Company in association with E Cell

organized Proto Camp for Electronics and Computer Science Students. The main outcome of the Proto camp

is to make the students to know about Entrepreneurship, Product Development, Design Thinking and Use of

IOT.

IOT Workshop, Fablabz Student Campus Company in association with E Cell organized IOT Workshop for

Electronics and Computer Science Students on 10 Aug. 2018. The main outcome of the base camp is to make

the students to know about IOT and Sensors and make them to learn about the product development with use

of Sensors.

Fablabz had participated in HITEX Maker Faire at Hyderabad Organized by Telangana Government in

collaboration with Maker Spaces India from 9 to 11 Nov. 2018. Fablabz participated and conducted workshops

on IOT, AI and Smart Wearables for all age groups.

NATURE CLUB

Nature Club Inauguration was organized on 16 Aug.2018. Mr. Jayakumar M, Director, Prakriti Suraksha,

Kanyakumari was the Chief Guest, He spoke on Nature Protection and Social Health Awareness Programme

to the participants.

Internship Program between 1 May and 31 Jul. 2018 and completed the 10 days programme from 02 Jun. to

12 Jun. 2018.

Republic Day Parade Camp, held at New Delhi, from 01 to 31 Jan. 2019 and successfully executed the parade

M. Kumari Madan Jat of BCOM got selected to NSS Youth Parliament and successfully participated in the

State Level Parliament, held at Chennai.

A Public Toilet in Kondanoor village was renovated

A Rain Water Harvester in Kondanoor Pudur village was renovated

Unmaintained Domestic Water tank in, Mankarai, Kondanoor Pudur and Jambugandi villages were renovated.

Compost pits were created in each villages and people were educated about it.

Peculiarly, an unmaintained bus stand was cleaned, renovated, white washed and painted with many

awareness paintings and quotes. This is one of the main and large project which created a main breathtaking

impact among the public.

SRCAS had been shortlisted among top hundred colleges in Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Village Adoption Scheme in

National Level, proposed by Ministry of Human resources and Development, Govt. of India. Our NSS

Programme Officer Mr. Prahadeeshwaran S attended the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Orientation, held at New Delhi.

The NSS Unit had shown progress in various series of events under the Guidance of Central Government such

as Swachh Hi Seva and Swachh Pakhwara. Several Events were conducted in and around the adopted

villages and Railway station.

An unmaintained Children's park and a play school were renovated in Kandivalli.

A Temple in Kondanoor pudur and Kandivalli villages were renovated.

NSS volunteers enrolled in Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Programme proposed by Ministry of Human

resources and Development, Govt. Of India and successfully completed 3 camps in Tribal villages

Jambugandi, Kondanoor, Kondanoor Pudur, Kandivalli and Panapalli in Anaikatti region, Coimbatore. In these

villages, enormous upgrades were done by the NSS volunteers. Peculiarly,

· Blood Donation Camps were organised on 23 Jan. 2019. Nearly, 80 units of blood was donated.

· Sri Ramakrishna Hospitals, Government Hospitals, · G. Kuppusamy Naidu Memorial

Hospitals, PSG Hospitals, KMCH, Royal Care Hospitals, Ganga Hospital, And so on.

Conducted and organized various awareness campaign and Swachh Bharath events in and around the city

nearly 100 events were undertaken by the team of NSS

Contributed a major hand in collecting the relief items for Kerala floods with C4TN group under the cause

named #CBE4KERALA.

· The YRC unit observed World Blood Donors Day on 14 Jun. 2018. Nearly, 50 Units blood was donated.

· The Unit organized Dengue Awareness Campaign on 13 Oct. 2018 at Sidhapudhur and spread awareness

among the public through Street Play.

· The Unit also took part in a rally to observe World Aids Day on 01 Dec. 2018 at District Collectorate,

Coimbatore

Bharaniidharan J applied for the Indhra Gandhi National Award.

· The unit conducted series of Dengue awareness campaigns among public through Door to Door awareness,

Street play, Cleaning campaigns.

· Anti-Narcotics Day rally was conducted from Coimbatore Red Cross Society to VOC Ground on 26 Jun. 2018.

More than 50 Volunteers took part in the rally.

Played a major role in collection of relief Items for Gaja Cyclone affected Coastal districts by starting initiative

#V4U and executed in major Areas. Collected various relief items within the college and from general public.

The Youth Red Cross of SRCAS was awarded as the Best Youth Red Cross by the Bharathiar University. It

had done enormous projects in and outside the campus.

· World AIDS Day was observed by participating in a mega rally from Coimbatore Government Hospital to VOC

Grounds. Nearly, 100 volunteers of our college were participated in the event. A rally was conducted in order to

spread awareness and precautions about the ill effects of AIDS.

· Anti-Narcotics Day rally was conducted from Coimbatore Red Cross Society to VOC Ground on 26 Jun. 2018.

More than 50 Volunteers took part in the rally.

VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION CLUB

The volunteers donated blood in various hospitals located in Coimbatore mainly:

Blood donation camp was held on June 14 as the observance of World Blood Donor's Day. Nearly, 50 units of

blood was donated on that day.

On 2 Oct 2018, the Rotaract club hosted DTWS (District Trainer Workshop) for selecting the Trainers for

Rotary International District 3201 and 120 participants participated and 25 participants were selected for the

next level interview.

On 2 Sep 2018, the Rotaract Club along with Rotaract club of Coimbatore spectrum conducted an event called

BMWS (Board Members Workshop) for the board members of various club and they had wonderful session.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Science Club celebrated National Science Day 2019 and organized 15th Sir J C Bose Memorial Award in

association with Indian Science Monitor on 28 Feb. 2018. Scientists from USA received the awards and all

science departments participated in various competitions and nearly 115 projects were displayed in the

Science Exhibition.

ICSSR Sponsored, A Two-Day National Conference on Work Place Harassment of Women in Cine and Modern

Arts: Prevention and Punishment was organized on 04 and 05 Oct. 2018.

A one and half a day workshop was conducted on Silk Thread and Teracotta Jewellery Making on 10and 11

Jun. 2019. 50 girl students from I and II year participated, from Ms. Aswathy and Ms. Saranya, learnt the Art of

Making Jewellery from the basics and groomed to bring out intricate designs of their Jewellery. The finished

products were put on an exhibit.

Blood Test was conducted for all the girls' students to find out the level of anemia

On 4.09.2018 a guest lecture was organised on Self Grooming and Confidence. The session was arranged for

all the 3rd year Under Graduate students.

The inauguration of Women Empowerment Cell was held on 10th Aug. 2018. The function was organized with

the theme “Unconditional Love” and the picture of Mother Teresa was displayed in all areas befitting the theme.

The logo designed for Women Empowerment Cell was released by the Sisters of Missionaries of Charity,

Mother Teresa Convent, Coimbatore. Ms S. Lakshmi IPS, Dy.Commissioner of Police, Law & Order,

Coimbatore was the Guest of Honour, delivered a speech on Women Safety & Well Being. Mrs J. Swarnalatha,

CEO, Swarga Foundations, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest, rendered a motivational speech on How to

Convert Adversities in Life to Opportunities for Progress.

Handloom for Nation Handloom for Fashion – A Fashion Parade Competition for girls student was organised on

25 Jul. 2018. 42 students participated in the programme and 2 students Niveditha III B.sc Maths and Akshaya

Aravindh III B.sc Bio Tech was selected for the finals, going to be held at Hindusthan College of Arts and

Science, Coimbatore.

Yoga Class was conducted by The World Community Service Centre – Coimbatore Zone from 05 to 15 Jun.

2018 for all the women's staff members.
