Dear Friends,
At the Ripley County Community Foundation, we had our share of changes in 2018. We changed ouraddress and began to operate from our new loca-tion on George Street in Batesville; we welcomed our new program director, Laura Hamilton and our new marketing officer, Amy Wonnell. While there were new and exciting changes this year, we feel that the mission set forth by our founding members, to enrich the lives of the citizens of Ripley County, remains unchanged.
While reading this annual report, you will see statis-tics related to grants and scholarships all attached toa specific dollar amount. While this is a very accurate and factual way to represent our year, it fails to tell the stories of the people that have been impacted by our work. Thanks to your generosity in time, talent and treasure, some of our 2018 accomplish-ments were: support of countless local nonprofitorganizations across the county bringing new cultur-al opportunities to all (i.e. Versailles CommunityMural and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Con-cert), support and development of STEM education
programs through the Genesis Program (i.e. Information Technology programming and teacher training), and the expansion of Ripley Youth Outreach’s birthday box program. I am especially proud to be a part of an organi-zation that is able to continue to support nonprofits just like we have since our beginning over twenty years ago, while being dynamic enough to support new ideas and projects.
Looking ahead into 2019, we are excited about partic-ipating in Lilly Endowment Inc.’s GIFT VII program. It is our hope that through this program we will be able to bolster our community granting funds and have an even bigger impact across Ripley County for years to come. Our Genesis program will host its 8th regional Rube Goldberg Machine Contest in March, and thanks to the quality competition our Ripley County youth consistently display at the national competition, the national commit-tee decided to host the Rube Goldberg National Contest locally, in Lawrenceburg in April. Our Ripley Youth Out-reach is experiencing continued success, this year they will offer a Change Ripley County Grant to support otheryouth also doing great work.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our report, and thank you for your continued support of our wonder-ful organization.
Sincerely,Steve Huff

How did you hear about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship?
At the age of either seven or eight, I learned about the Lilly Scholarship via my mother who frequently gave me pep talks. She would say, “You can do anything you set your mind to, Toria. You can become President, find the cure for cancer, and yes, you can win the Lilly Scholarship!”
What was your first reaction when you realized you had won?
Absolutely, I was in a state of disbelief! The entire presentation felt surreal, and even to this day, the fact I received this award is still mind-boggling and difficult to fathom!
How has the experience impacted you?
Receiving this extremely generous scholarship has opened multiple doors to me and afforded me experiences at a prestigious college that, otherwise, would never have been a viable option.
What advice would you offer to another student who wants to apply?
It’s important to “be yourself!” I would advise students to avoid the temptation of telling selection committee members what you think they want to hear, and simply and honestly give them an insight into who you are as person. Let them know your passions, and what you intend to do with your skills and talents. Feel free to also share your sense of humor in your writings and during your interview. All of the selection committee members were very warm and put me at ease quickly.

GRANT HIGHLIGHT
Active town squares build strong, vibrant communities and attract people to our towns. Public art is an essential element for the revitalization of our downtown squares; it sparks conversation and turns once unused spaces into gathering places and hubs of activity. The Versailles Bicentennial brought people of all ages together to reminisce and to share their history. The mural takes you on a journey through time and displays what makes Versailles a wonderful community.
“OUR HOMETOWN”VERSAILLES BICENTENNIAL MURAL
This mural was completed with the help of 150 community volunteers ranging in ages from one to ninety-three! Made possible in cooperation with: Main Street Versailles, Town of Versailles, Versailles Bicentennial Committee, Versailles Lions Club. This mural was commissioned by the Ripley Coun-ty Community Foundation as an expression of our mission to enhance the place we call home!

The Community Foundation is proud to administer this program for the Batesville High School and Oldenburg Academy Varsity Football Teams and hopes the seed planted in 2017 will contin-ue to grow in the future.
MissionTo create a powerful youth voice in our community in order to improve the lives of those in Ripley County through a philanthropic approach.
VisionSpread knowledge of philanthropy across Ripley County through service and education, to empower the youth to become leaders of their generation.
RIPLEYYOUTHOUTREACH
“We would like to thank the Ripley County Community Foundation for the Birthday Boxes we received from the Ripley Youth Outreach program.
They are greatly appreciated by our families. Thank you again for thinking of our children.”
- Roberta Bible, The Milan Community Emergency Relief
RYO supported the classrooms of the future and issued grants to purchase virtual reality equipment, robotic cubelets, OSMO curriculum for iPads, and live streaming equipment. They supported the entrepreneurial aspirations of their peers at Milan High School and supported the creation of Tribal Brew.
STEM STARS
Mission: To be a perpetual resource to support, expand, and enhance educational and economic opportunities for local communities.
“I learned so much and this competition really made me realize my potential and how much of my brain I never used before and that if I put my head to something anything is possible, and I am so thankful for that and appreciate everyone who helped make this competition possible for me.”
- Jacob Simon, Rube Goldberg team member, The Ripley County Engineering Academy

2018 MANUFACTURING CAMP
Genesis: Pathways to Success (GPS) is guided by an Action Team that comes together to discuss workforce and community needs and develop strategic plans to address those needs. The lack of individuals with Information Technology (IT) skills was identified by a local employer on the Action Team as a critical need. GPS used this partner’s comments as the impetus to create something beyond our wildest imaginings.
Our Concept was to develop a Cybersecurity career pathway for students in Ripley County and increase the Cybersecurity talent pool for regional businesses and organizations.
In 2017, Cyber Camp 101 was kicked off. The cur-riculum was designed by Joe Kennedy (Ivy Tech) and Scot Cunningham (Northern Kentucky Uni-versity) and engaged middle school students and teachers by using Raspberry Pi devices to learn Linux operating system basics.
In 2018, Cyber Camp was enhanced by offering the Air Force Association’s Standard CyberPatri-ot curriculum for middle school students, and a Python Programming camp designed by the Ripley County Community Foundation’s intern, Cole Van-derpohl, a Hanover College student, was offered to high school students.
In 2019, the camp will include the AFA’s Standard and Advanced curricula which will be offered to students in grades 7-12 and will include a field trip to the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center’s Cyber Academy.
As a result of the collaboration and connections made through the Cyber Camp curriculum plan-ning, an articulation agreement between Ivy Tech Community College’s Cyber Security degree pro-gram and Northern Kentucky University’s Informa-tion Technology Bachelor’s degree program was solidified.
Genesis provided schools in the county with in-formation about grant funding through Techpoint Foundation for VEX Robotics, and teachers quickly applied for, received, and organized VEX Robot-ics after-school teams and clubs. In 2018, a VEX Robotics League was established in collaboration with several Ripley County and Dearborn County elementary and middle schools.
Computer Science pathways are rapidly expanding in the schools. In 2018, instead of only one school offering Computer Science courses, 100% of the school corporations in Ripley County offered Com-puter Science courses with two schools offering AP Computer Science courses and one school prepar-ing to offer a high school course in Cybersecurity in the 2019-2020 academic year!
