The shin's four sections represent our four core values, while the division is inspired by the current “stained glass” feel of our previous logo. In addition, the logo form is reminiscent of our Shul's signature Jerusalem stone. We chose a modern font with an organic shape to each character, giving off a welcoming feel. The dark blue color conveys our dedication to Eretz Yisrael while the slight gradient adds a friendly touch, with the warmth of the orange signifying that all are welcome at Shomrei. Lastly, the flame that bursts forth from the shin represents the ner tamid - the everlasting flame, whose glow acts as a warm embrace to all who gather among us at Shomrei Emunah. We hope that this fresh new logo will match the renewed enthusiasm of a growing, thriving, and community-centered Shul. Kenny Friedman Itzi Barr Chanie Bernstein Layne Lowenstein Elsa Lustman

Virtual Tour of Ancient Shilo – Sunday, January 31st at 9 a.m.

Eliana Passentin Ancient Shilo

Conducting our tour of Ancient Shilo will be Eliana Passentin. Eliana was born in San Francisco and made Aliyah in 1987. Since 1996, she has lived in Yishuv Eli with her husband, David, and their 8 children. Their first 10 years in Eli were spent in hilltop caravans.

Eliana was a sergeant in the IDF, where she served as a field guide for the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel. She spent a year in Odessa as part of an Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affair delegation, preparing educational programs on Jewish identity and political themes, as well as teaching Hebrew.

Eliana received both her BA and MA from Bar Ilan University, majoring in Land of Israel Studies, Geography, and Archeology.

For the past 12 years, Eliana has served as the deputy director of Talmud Torah Hadar-Yosef, an educational center with 430 students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. Two of her loves have been environmental projects and nature preservation, an example of which was her creation of a butterfly garden in Hadar-Yosef.

Eliana has taken many diverse groups on tours of the Binyamin region in the Shomron: US Senators, members of Congress, and Governors, PM Netanyahu & President Rivlin, Knesset members, journalists, evangelical leaders, college students, and Houston Texans Quarterback DeShaun Watson, etc.

We look forward to her tour of Ancient Shilo on Sunday, January 31st at 9 a.m. and hope you will be able to join us.

Our Shul, Congregation Shomrei Emunah, has been a pillar of the Baltimore community since its inception in 1971. As the shul has grown, so has our identity and presence within our wonderful congregation.

As we near the beginning of the second half of a century as the bedrock of the Baltimore community, we sought a fresh and modern logo that captures the essence of our Shul and members.

Our objective in this rebrand was to visually represent our core values of Community, Diversity, Tefillah and Eretz Yisroel in a fresh and modern fashion, all while instantly conveying Shomrei Emunah's essence of warmth, in a timeless design.

Nailing all that down in the limited space of a logo was a welcome challenge. We're proud to present to you Shomrei Emunah's updated logo. The abstract design is composed of a number of elements that symbolize important aspects of our kehilla.

Looking closely at the logo will reveal Shomrei Emunah's initials: a four-sectioned "shin" in blue, and an "aleph" appearing in the negative space.

Shomrei/Israel Bonds Update

As many can imagine, this year’s Yomim Noraim Israel Bonds Appeal was challenging across the country. The Baltimore community, including Shomrei Emunah, generated about 50% less pledges than in 2019. Baruch Hashem, the actual dollars pledged was off by only 20% across the 28 participating Baltimore area synagogues.

I am pleased to announce that Shomrei has been invited to join a national Zoom event featuring NBA and Israeli basketball superstar Amar’e Stoudemire on January 28th. Sponsored by Israel Bonds, Amar’e will discuss his NBA career, his journey to Judaism, his Aliya and his many basketball accomplishments including his recently secured 2020 championship and MVP title with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
