It is possible to achieve almost

anything as long as you are not worried about who gets the credit. President Harry S. Truman

We commend the Moses Lake Shilo staff who happily combined their efforts to clean up a nearby highway. A very Happy Belated 80th Birthday to Isaac Diaz, who has worked at Bend Shilo since 1999. Isaac sets a fast pace for younger team members of the Laun-dry department. Isaac is the proud dad of 14 kids (all one mom!) and 50 grandkids. He says he has no immediate plans for retirement.

Take a Look at Who’s Who in the World of Shilo Inns. . .

Maria Del Carmen Fuentes closes in on one year at Moses Lake Shilo and re-ceived Employee of the Quarter honors. Maria is friendly and hard-working and exemplifies Shilo’s special hospitality.

Tacoma Shilo staff, including Manager Nikki Hog-gan and Mike Itatani, Regional Di-rector of Sales [R}, hosted air personnel from nearby McChord AFB [Lower R] with a barbe-que to thank them for their service to our country and for all the business they bring to Shilo. Nikki says, “It was so much fun watching Mike flip hamburgers and hot dogs we fed 70 air personnel one day and 40 soldiers from Fort Campbell the next.”

Warrenton manager Elsbeth Kenoyer’s grandkids, [L to R] Natalie, Baby Chloe and Cody, were featured in the local newspaper for their love of books at the local St. Helen’s Book Shop. Natalie, 8 years old, is an avid fan of Harry Potter.

Congratulations to Portland Airport Shilo staff for an award plaque they received on July 1 from the Oregon Officer Selection Team [U.S. Ma-rine Corps] in rec-ognition for their support in develop-ing tomorrow’s military leaders.

Welcome to Kya Groves, the new Director of Sales at Shilo Inn Hotel & Suites Spring-field/Eugene. She hit the deck running on July 7th and contin-ues to set re-cords in her new job.

Behind the Scenes.

Ever wonder who’s behind the fun, progressive and suc-cessful social media technol-ogy where guests and fans can access Shilo information and leave messages? Sites like Twitter, Flicker, U-Tube and Facebook as well as other print and electronic advertis-ing? Yep, it’s the Shilo Media Team headed by graphic de-signer Dan Klimke. Dan began working for Shilo in July, 2006. That was a busy summer for Dan, who married his sweetheart the same month he embarked on his exciting career at Shilo Corporate. Fernando Aranquiz, Nycole Gomez, Leslee Gemmill and Ivan McAffee complete the media team, spreading the word on Shilo Inns & Suites & Restaurants, as well as great Shilo affiliates. Twitter has gathered more than 2,000 Shilo fans and more join every week. Future plans for these social media sites include special packages, more photos and expanded advertising. Dan says more programs are in the planning stages.

“To Whom it May Concern: Mike Hidalgo was extremely kind and went above to assist my hus-band and me for our reservations. He was helpful and very courteous and also very patient. You have a good person representing your [Pomona Hill-top]hotel. Thank you. Mrs. Harris

A noteworthy comment card ar-rived from Jon Kruk praising Al Martinez, manager of Shilo’s Port-land Airport Restaurant. “I am writing about Al, and I think he’s the restaurant manager. He did me a huge favor, as a friend of mine, who is a Delta flight atten-dant was staying at this hotel and it was her 40th birthday. I wanted to pay for a piece of cake for her and Al took care of it for me with-out charge and included a candle. It was totally awesome what he did for me and I cannot tell you enough how Al made her day!!! Thank you, Shilo Inns, for employ-ees like Al.”

Shilo Stars, Special Guests, Kudos and More . . .

“My wife and I, along with our dog, recently stayed at your facility in The Dalles. We wanted to write and say thank you. The facility was clean, the area was well maintained and the cus-tomer service provided by the staff was exceptional. Special thanks to Angie who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was pleasurable and comfortable. Despite what I am sure was more than our share of re-quests, she never acted like we were a bother, instead treated us like we really mattered. Such service is be-coming a lost art this day and age. We were surprised and grateful that it still exists. Would I recommend this facility to friends . . . I would an-swer that with a resounding YES. Thanks again for a great time. Mark Diane, and Gypsy Duncan.” “To the Personnel Director: I attended the IRWA Conference held at your hotel [Idaho Falls] and wish to thank you for the wonderful stay. When one travels, they find them-selves in a town that they are unfamil-iar with and tired--there is no one they know. What made this stay so great was the staff of your hotel. Only in a destination vacation resort have I experienced such quality and friendly personnel. I walked away and said to myself, “I will return!”

Please take the time and thank your staff for me. I hope you know what a valuable team you have . . . the tall blonde reception desk lady [Lisa], thank you so much for the hot break-fast and the morning smile; the young lady [Melanie P], thank you for your understanding and patience during the food course. It was hectic and you smiled through it all. The house-keeper of the fourth floor . . . it was a good morning and everything was great. Thank you for asking. That means a lot. And, last was Kim Laker, as busy as she was she took the time to get us a map and point out some of the beautiful sites that I would have missed in your city . . . Her smile and good nature made me feel ‘they really do care.’ Thanks! Pat Cardwell, Coeur D’Alene Water”

Richard Burkhard, Ph.D., re-quested that senior management at Pomona Hilltop laud their staff. “I have stayed at that Shilo Hilltop in Pomona consistently for three years. The main reason I return is because of the outstanding customer service I receive from two individu-als--Stephen and Martha. Both of these highly professional members of your staff know me by name and always do their best to locate me in a quiet part of the hotel. I always know that they will handle any issue that arises, day or night, and they always do their best to make my stay pleasant and efficient. There are many other options for hotels in that area, as you know, but I plan to keep coming back to Shilo Hilltop because of the professionalism of Martha and Stephen!”

“Last year, my wife, Dorothy, and I began looking for a hotel to host our biannual Perry-Revels Family Reunion this July. After an exhaus-tive search, we finally selected Shilo Inn Suites Hotel in Killeen, Texas. This decision was made, in no small part, because of the outstanding presentation by Sherry Hoffpauir. “I cannot begin to tell you all the compliments we heard from our family and friends about your won-derful staff and their professional service and attitudes. A few who helped our reunion be successful (comments were made that because of the hotel, this was, without a doubt, the best reunion ever) were Maureen Buscio, Sherry Hoffpauir, Barbara West, Donna Fischbach, Kenny Harrison, Justin Haight and Tina Chester. They should all be commended for their performance in an outstanding manner. “As our families were made up with quite a few active and retired profes-sional people (doctors, lawyers, min-isters and educators) who travel quite a bit, it was their consensus to look for a Shilo Inn when they next have to travel. Thank you again! William and Dorothy Peoples.”

“I’m one of the Rode Hogs . . . This is the first time I’ve stayed at Shilo properties . . . They’re great accommodations at a fantastic price! Cheers, Bill.” This group of road warriors from Boeing trav-eled the west coast and stayed at Shilo Inns from Newport to Klamath Falls and The Dalles. Here, they pause for a friendly shot in front of Newport Shilo.

Here’s a Sweet Tweet from JennyKArt: “Shout out to 2 of your fine staff in Klamath Falls: Korrie & Sarah; 5 stars to them for being so good at what they do.

A Special Tribute to Teamwork . . .

The best things in life are nearest. Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, lilies at your hand, the path of right just before you.

Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life’s plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life. Robert Louis Stevenson

C.E. Ellison High School - Class of 1989 Reunion committee Stephanie Thompson, Chair

Arlington, Texas

Dear Mr. Hemstreet: On behalf of the C.E. Ellison High School Class of 1989 Reunion Committee, I am writing to commend the staff of Shilo Inn in Killeen, Texas, for providing excellent customer service for our reunion . . . Sales Manager Heather Nance literally came to our rescue during the planning of this event. She turned what began as a nightmare at another hotel into a very positive and enjoyable customer experience. Heather did an amazing job of directing us down the right path from menu to set-up to décor. In the end, the event was a HUGE success. Without Heather and the Shilo, I know that our reunion would have been a disaster. I would like to acknowledge Banquet Server Bryon Irving for all the hard work he and the banquet staff provided for our dinner and dance. Bryon had an amazing attitude and personality and was always willing and able to provide assistance when needed. He quickly executed any request we had, such as having a wel-come to our classmates put up on the marquee. He gave honest feedback when asked questions about the set-up and layout for the dinner. And, he was present during the night’s activities to ensure everything was carried out as requested. He really en-deared himself to our classmates in the process. Sherry Hoffpauir, Director of Sales, not only made sure we had the guest accommodations we needed, but she prepared a special gift bag for us to present as a door prize at the dinner. It was well received by the recipient. The team at your Killeen property is truly top notch. I have been planning events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for over 10 years and I can honestly say that your team was one of the best that I have worked with. Thank you for making our reunion a most memorable event. Sincerely, Stephanie Thompson, Chair
