Dance Adjudicator

Charlene Hiscock

At the age of 5 Charlene’s parents signed her up for her first dance class and she hasn’t stopped dancing since! Since that time she has taken classes in a wide range of disciplines

and competed in countless Festivals. In 1996 Charlene was fortunate enough to be among the first dancers in the

country to complete her Grade 9 Tap exam with Al Gilbert, the highest level possible. She has also completed the highest level for Al Gilbert’s Jazz and is the only one in the area to

have completed exams in the Gilbert/Vose ballet and Pointe syllabus. In addition, Charlene has trained in Cehecetti

and RAD ballet and is proud to have received her ADAPT teacher’s certification. She continues to take courses and attend workshops to continue to bring new and exciting ideas

to her classes.

Charlene has nearly 20 years of experience teaching and choreographing for dancers of all ages and levels of ability. She has taught in many rural communities across Manitoba and

has also done classes in a school setting as an “Artist in the School”.

She has been with Dance Images since before it was created and has participated both on stage and behind the scenes in all of the dance productions put on by the studio. She is a

very loyal person who is dedication to the studio and the students. Charlene has only missed one year end recital in her whole dance career, the year she had her second son just days before the show. She is very pleased that her boys, Darby and Nicholas, have inherited her

love of dance and performing

Mark Christianson has lived and taught in Winnipeg since 1973.  He worked in both St. Boniface and St. Vital school divisions.  His bands (and choirs) had excellent success in performance.  While at Dakota Collegiate, he was instrumental in establishing the Asia-

Pacific Exchange Program.  His bands had the opportunity to visit Japan 3 times as part of the program.

Mark retired from teaching in 2000 but has remained active as a horn teacher, guest conductor, and guest horn teacher throughout western Canada.  Mark is a Festival Assistant and Horn MasterClass teacher  at the Canadian Rocky Music Festival every spring.  He keeps busy and active with golf, tennis, and teaching private horn students.   He finds the time he

spends in Palm Springs during the winter very enjoyable.

Guitar Adjudicator

Dr. Ian Hodges

Ian Hodges earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Music degree from Florida State University, a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Manitoba, and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the

American Honorary Musical Society.

A highly successful teacher for over 30 years, Dr. Hodges has taught at the University of Minnesota and the Canadian Mennonite University, and currently teaches at the Manitoba Conservatory of

Music and Arts, the International Music Camp, and the Preparatory Division of the Faculty of Music (University of Manitoba). Many of his students have gone on to professional careers in music.

Ian began his performing career as a jazz and commercial guitarist, touring across Canada with top level jazz, fusion, rock and country groups. His work as a classical guitar soloist and with

outstanding ensembles such as the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra prompted the headline “Manitoba’s Premiere Classical Guitarist” (Winnipeg Free Press, November 2001). This musical

versatility led to opportunities to write musical scores for film and theatre, including the Peabody award winning NFB film “Fat Chance”. Dr. Hodges enjoys an active career as a teacher, performer

and composer.
