Sound

The sound all the way through the opening credits is a tension building piece of music. The connotation of this is to get the audience to feel on edge and get their heart pumping. This goes well with the action thriller genre because it action thrillers it is all about tension and getting your heart to beat.

Cinematography

This part shows blood running along the floor. The denotation for this is that you know something is about to happen but you don’t know quite what. You know it will be something violent but you don’t know if the person whose blood it is alive/dead, stabbed shot or self inflicted

By having this image for a while on the screen the audience are dying to know what it is and what it links in with. This is a very good technique of enticing the audience in. This links in with the genre action thriller because it is adding on suspense and it will suddenly explode with action.

Editing

The editors edit in a pair of glasse with blood splattered all over them and up the wall to add to the already massive tension. This method is so the audience feel nervous and they start to get a picture of who the victim is and what part he plays in the narrative.

The opening of the film has been edited so that it is being played backwards. This pulls the audience in because they do not know what is going on and it takes them a while to realise. It is really clever and sneaky. But once you realise it becomes clear what is going on.

Setting

The setting of the opening scene is a room which looks a bit like a basement. The denotation of this setting is that it is dark like murder and is dirty like murder as well. The setting is symbolic and shows the audience the type of action there is going to be in this action thriller.

Characters This character has just murdered somebody but at this moment the audience do not have a clue who he is. This links in well with the genre of an action thriller because it is really fast and you have to try and keep up.

The connotation of this still is that he has done something wrong because he has just been killed. The audience don’t know what he has done so it adds more mystery to the film and the audience want to watch more because they are intrigued to see what that man has done to deserve being shot.

Narrative

From this still you know that the film is about some sort of investigation which is most likely murder. But as nobody has said anything yet there is a massive amount of mystery to this image. This links in with the genre of an action thriller.

Titles

The producer has decided to have bright blue titles and a black background because they are contrasting colours and this gives a more suspended view. Also the blue could represent cold and the film could be chilling. In conclusion it is to build up the suspense and the audience wanting to know what the film is about.
