The new v7.0 system isthe industry’s latestinnovation in protonprecession design - withmany new technologiesthat deliver significantbenefits for earth scienceapplications.

Key technologies include:

Data export in standard XYZ(i.e. line-oriented) formatfor easy use in standardcommercial softwareprograms

Programmable exportformat for full control overoutput

GPS elevation valuesprovide input forgeophysical modeling

Enhanced GPS positioningresolution<1.5m standard GPS forhigh resolution surveying<1.0m OmniStar GPS<0.7m for newly introducedCDGPS

Multi-sensor capability foradvanced surveys to resolvetarget geometry

Picket marketing /annotation for capturingrelated surveyinginformation on-the-go

And all of thesetechnologies comecomplete with the mostattractive savings andwarranty in the business!

For earth science survey groups whorequire a complete solution for end-to-endmagnetic data acquisition at an affordableprice, the GSM-19T proton precessionfamily is the proven choice - for even themost challenging environments.

From robust field units to efficient surveymodes to fast data downloading, theGSM-19T is carefully designed to deliverthe maximum value in a proton precessionsystem.

The GSM-19T also provides numeroustechnologies that differentiate it from othersystems. For example, it is the onlyproton precession system with integratedGPS (optional) for high-sensitivity,accurately-positioned ground surveys.

With other v7.0 upgrades, GEM’s protonprecession system also leads insensitivity, memory, base stationtechnology, and other key areas.

Designed From the Ground Up

Leading the list of advances is GEM’srover unit which features a 25% increasein sensitivity -- reflecting new processingalgorithms and implementation of thelatest RISC microprocessors.

In addition, v7.0 standard memory is 16Mbytes (expandable in 16 Mybteincrements) which translates into 738,769readings of line / station data or more than2,708,821 readings for base station units.

The new memory capacity sets anindustry standard, but more importantly, itmeans that operators can now handleeven the largest surveys with ease.

Another important innovation is GEM’sunique programmable base stationwhich you can enable via either a fieldunit or a Personal Computer as follows:

Daily scheduling (define working hoursand minutes each day). This modeprovides economy of memory andbattery usage on a daily basis.

Flexible scheduling (up to 30 on / offperiods). Simply define a series ofintervals and the base station will turnitself on as you need. This modeprovides the greatest flexibility for longersurveys where leaving your base stationrunning increases efficiency.

Immediate start. This mode is thetraditional mode of starting a basestation unit and leaving it until theoperator can return to turn off the unit.

Survey Planning and Efficiency

One of the traditional challenges in groundmagnetometer / gradiometer surveys isensuring that surveys are designed andimplemented as effectively as possible.

With the v7.0 proton precession system,GEM addresses this challenge through

GSM-19T Proton Precession console with sensor and cable. Can also beconfigured with additional sensor for gradiometer(simultaneous) readings.

standard GEM capabilities, such as theWalking Mag option that enables theoperator to sample while walking. Thoughthere is some increase in noise, manyusers find this is balanced by improvedfield productivity. Having nearly continousdata on survey lines also helps increasethe accuracy of interpretations.

Another innovation is GPS way point pre-programming. Now you can define acomplete survey in the office on yourPersonal Computer and download thisinformation directly to a rover unit via RS-232. Then, the operator simply performsthe survey using the points as their surveyguide -- with a resulting decrease in errorsand more rapid survey completion.

Survey Operations

The GSM-19T also helps the operator ona daily basis while performing surveys. Akey feature is the easy-to-read LCD datadisplay in graphical (or text) format alongwith a signal quality indicator to determinewhen readings need to be repeated.

And, although GEM’s proton precessionunit is very tolerant to gradients, it alsoprovides a warning indicator so that theoperator can monitor data qualitycontinuously. Other features operatorsappreciate include easy-to-use line andstation incrementing -- as well as end-of-line indicators.

Fast Data Transfer

Another traditional area in which time islost in surveys is in data transfer. In v7.0,GEM addressed this in several ways:

Data download is tripled to 115 KBaud(fastest rate possible with RS-232).

PC-based data reduction is nowpossible using an upgraded version ofGEMLinkW, GEM’s proprietary datatransfer software.

GPS and Other Software

GEM Systems recently became the onlymanufacturer to provide a fullyintegrated GPS option for its line ofproton precession products. Along withmetre to sub-metre positioning options, the new processing functionality enablesusers to take advantage of the benefits ofGPS.

Some of the capabilities include:

Pre-programming of way points.

Post-processing of GPS data. GEM’sDGPS option enables transfer of GPSdata for post-processing and mergingvia 3rd party software.

Precise time synchronization of fieldand base station units. This capability isparticularly important for working innoisy magnetic conditions and providesthe highest accuracy possible.

In addition to its own software, GEM isalso pleased to offer a variety of dataanalysis and processing software from 3rdparty developers.
