1. Why did the US use the Atomic bomb when it was apparent that we would defeat Japan without it?

• Although the US would probably defeat Japan an invasion of Japan would require a period of direct combat that would lead a large number of US casualties. It was believed that dropping the bomb would save up to 1,000,000 lives

• 2. What was the Holocaust and why did Hitler single out the Jews for destruction?

• The elimination of 6,000,000 Jews by Hitler as a scapegoat for the problems of Germany.
