Angioedema and Hives Treatments

Angioedema and Hives (Urticaria) are very similar but different afflictions. The primary

difference between the two conditions is that Angioedema occurs mainly in the dermis

and subcutaneous tissues. Hives on the other hand is found most often the upper

dermis. The two are often misdiagnosed and confused for each other. This fact is

further complicated because Angioedema and actually cause an outbreatk of Hives,

this is often referred to as Angiodema Urticaria.

Urticaria is the less known medical name for Hives. If you repeatedly suffer from

of passing wheals lasting for 3 or more months. There are many currently known

causes of Urticaria. A few of these causes are allergic others are non-allergic. Your

Angioedema is an afflication that causes rapid swelling of the skin which is noted by

the swelling of dermis, subcutaneous tissue, mucosa, and submucosal tissues. In

Acquired Angioedema, often times called Quincke Edema, the symptoms generally last

for less than a few hours and aren't often threatening to your life. That said, if the

swelling (especially in the throat or airways) increases at a very rapid pace you should

seek attention from a physician. In a case like the Dr. would usually provide an anti-

histamine or a shot of epinephrine.
