HistoryHistoryIn 1396 the Dominican general institution of higher

education, called UNIVERSITAS IADERTINA, had been founded in Zadar, it was the first institution of higher education in Croatia;

In 1553 became universitas privilegata - privilege to award doctorates;

Universitas Iadertina abolished in 1807;

In 1956, on that basis, the Faculty of Arts in Zadar was founded, firstly as a part of the University of Zagreb, and later as a part of the University of Split;

In July 2002 the Law of Instituting the University of Zadar was passed by Croatian National Parliament and the University of Zadar was registered on January 29, 2003;

The University of Zadar was awarded the Erasmus University Charter in December 2009,

53 bilateral cooperation agreements signed so far between the University of Zadar and partner universities as well as 60 LLP Erasmus inter-institutional agreement with 29 institutions in 15 EU countries,

from the academic year 2008/2009 the University participated in the preparatory phase of the Erasmus programme, and starting from the academic year 2010/2011 it participates in the Erasmus programme,

Besides the Erasmus programme both students` and teachers` mobility are implemented also through other programmes of exchange like CEEPUS, Fulbright, bilateral agreements and scholarships from the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports,

The University of Zadar has participated in several Tempus projects JEP - Joint European Projects, SCM - Structural And Complementary Measures as well as in some INTERREG III A projects,

The University of Zadar participates in the JoinEU-SEE network (Erasmus Mundus) and it will exchange the students and staff in the next academic year.

1994 – founding of Department of Geography at Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar, University of Split, from 2002 Department of Geography at University of Zadar

1995 – Croatian Geographic Society – Zadar

1996 – the first volume of Geoadria journal; first scientific project

1998 – first master degree thesis defended

2001 – department moved to new facilities

2002 – doctorial studies started

2003 – Center for Karst and Coastal Researches founded

2005 – Bologna HE reform started

2008 – first doctorial degree thesis defended

2011 – 21 employees; 250 students
