Statistics in Gambling Research Gambling research often dominated by Psychology

• Other major disciplines: Sociology, Community Health, Indigenous Studies, Economics, and Business/Marketing

• Important role for Statistics across all disciplines

Datasets often built from survey data, electronic game play metrics or treatment metrics; data may be cross-sectional and longitudinal

Types of research questions examined (with analysis techniques):

• Associations between variables or risk factors or cause-effect relationships (ANOVA, regression)

• Longitudinal studies on the causes, prevention and treatment of problem gambling

• Instrument development and validation (factor analysis)

• Segmentation (latent class analysis) and examination of specific target populations
