WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY OF GETTING A TOTAL OF 10 OR

MORE WHEN I THROW 2 DICE?

• The total possibilities are : 6*6 = 36• Possibilities when total is 10: • 6+4, 5+5, 4+6• For 11: 6+5, 5+6, • For 12: 6+6. Thus we have 6 possibilities. • 6/36 = 1/6 answer.


There are 10 prizes and 25 blanks in a lottery, what is the probability

of getting prize?

• 10/35• = 2/7 answer.


Rectangle =females, Triangle = educated, Circle = urban, Square =Civil Servants, what is

the number of uneducated male civil servants?


Answer:

• 17 answer.


Each of Goti and Hari has a peculiar habit in making statements. goti lies on Mondays, Tues days and Wednesday but speaks the truth on the other days of the week, whereas Hari lies

on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays but speaks the truth on the other days of the week. Monu

is a common friend of Goti and Hari.Today, Monu wanted to find out what day of the week it is and he got the following responses

from his friends to his query.Goti Yesterday was one of my lying days.

Hari : Yesterday was one of my lying days.What day of the week is today?


Solution . . .

• Today is Thursday – then Hari has to lie today and so Hari would speak that yesterday was my lying day.

• Goti has to speak tructh that “yesterday was my lying day”

• Thus it is Thursday.


Log sqrt(8) X = 10/3, what is X?

• X = (8)^1/2 ^10/3• X = 2^3/2 ^10/3• X = 2^5• X = 32 answer.


• Which of the following health drinks would be needed in least quantity to obtain its mixture with 15 liters of F such that, its lime water and vitamin percentage is less than 50 and greater than 40 respectively?

• (1) B• (2) C• (3) D• (4) G• (5) A


Solution .. .

• In the first option, we mix up B. B contains 3 liters of lime water and F has 15 liters of lime water, thus their combined share is 15 liters out of 25 liters. However, we need only less than 50% mixture as lime water. Thus we can do with only 1 liters of B. which will give us .3 liters of lime water. Ans.


DATA SUFFICIENCY QUESTION

• A box containing only 50 paise coins and 25 paise coins has a total sum of Rs. 20. What is the number of each of these coins?

• I. The total number of coins is 50.• II. If there were 10 more 50 paise coins,

the sum will in crease by 25%


SOLUTION . . .

• You can find the answer from the first statement alone. As we can see that if we assume the number of coins to be X and Y. we can frame two equations:

• X + Y = 50• .5X + .25Y = 20 • Solving these we get: .5y = 10 or Y = 20

and X = 30. The 2nd statement is not required in the process.


Data Sufficiency question

• Tom pluck apples. He sells some of the apples, distirbutes some of them among his friends, eats some and takes the rest home. How many apples did Tom eat?

• I. He distributes 6 apples among his friends, which comes to be 3/5th of what he has eaten and sold.

• II. He eats l/3 of the plucked apples, which is 12 less than what he has plucked.


Solution . . .

• From the second statement we can prepare an equation: \

• 1x -1/3x =12• 2/3 X = 12• X = 12*3/2 • X = 18• That means he had plucked 18 apples.

Thus answer can be obtained from 2nd statement alone.


DATA SUFFICIENCY QUESTION

• What is the value of X?• I. X and Y are unequal even integers less

than 10, and X/Y is an odd integer.• II. X and Y are even integers, each less

than 10, product of X andYis 12.


SOLUTION

• Only first statement is sufficient to answer the question. There is only one such possibility that is 6 and 2 thus 1st statement alone gives the answer.

• Similarly answer can be obtained from second statement also. Because only one such possibility is there 6*2 = 12 answer.

• =4 log 4 5^2

• =1 * 5^2

• =25 answer


Solve the following • If the quater of the sphere is divided into

two equal halves then• the ratio of surface area of each part with

the surface area of• sphere will be.• 5 : 16• 1: 16• 1:8• 1:4• 5:8


Solution . .

• Total surface area = 4 pi * r^2• Let us assume the r = 7• =4*22/7 * 7*7• =616• Now we will multiply it with 1/8• =77• Thus ratio is 1:8


FIND THE PROBABILITY THAT A 4 DIGIT NUMBER MADE FROM

2,5,6,7 IS DIVISIBLE BY 4?

• Any number is divisible by 4 only if the last 2 digits are divisible by 4. If the last 2 digits are 56, 76, 72,52 then the number will be divisible by 4. Keeping these as last 2 digits, we can make 2 numbers from each of these. Thus we have 8 possibilities.

• The total number of possibilities are 4! = 24. Thus required probability is 8/24 or 1/3.


A committee has to be formed of 7 members from 8 boys and 5 girls.

What is the probability that the committee will have 2 girls?

• 13C7 gives total possibilities: • 13!/(7! * 6!) =

13*12*11*10*9*8/6*5*4*3*2*1 =1716• Selecting 2 girls means: • 8C5*5c2 = 8!/(5!*3!) * 5!/(3!*2!) = 560• =560/1716 = .326


A dice is rolled twice, what is the probability that you get a difference

of 2 points? • 6^2 =36 are total possibilities• Difference of 2: (6,4), (5,3) (4,2) (3,1)

(1,3),(2,4), (3,5), (4,6) • Thus there are 8 possibilities • 8/36 = 2/9 answer.


For 2 events A and B, P(b) is .3 and P (A but not b) =.4

P (not A) =.6, what are A & B?

• Total of P(A) and P (B) is .7, that means they are not exhaustive (if they had been exhaustive, their total should have been 1).

• P(notA) and P(A but not b) together are 1 that means there is no common area between A & B. Thus these are mutually exclusive events.

• options; 261,217,198,180,..• 1^3+1 = 2• 2^3 +1 = 9• 3^3 +1 = 28• 4^3 +1 = 65• 5^3 +1 = 126• 6^3 +1 = 217 answer.


What is the slope of the line: A (-3,5) and B(4,2) is ?

• Slope = (Y2 – Y1) / (X2 – X1)• = (2-5) / (4-(-3))• =-3/7 answer.


ABC is a triangle with A (7,-3), B (3,-1), C (5,3), then what is the

length of the median AD?

• D is mid point between B and C. Mid point of B and c is:

• 8/2 = 4 and 2/2 = 1 thus we have to find distance from A to (4,1)

• Thus distance is sqrt ((7-4)^2 + (-3-1)^2)• Thus answer is 5.


Three circles of radius 3 CM each are tangent to each other. Find the area between them (surrounded by these circles, but don’t include the

area of circles) ?• Find the area of equilateral triangle joining

the 3 circles: (1.732/4 *6*6) =15.58• Find the area of half circle : ½*22/7*3*3• =14.14• Thus the area is : 1.44 ans.


Two circles touch each other externally, the sum of their areas is

130 pi. Distance between their centres is 14. What is the radii of

these circles? • Let us assume one radius is r and other (14-r)• Pi*r^2 +pi* (14-r)^2 = 130 pi• R^2 +196 -28r +r^2 = 130• 2R^2 -28R + 66 = 0 or R = solve it: 11 or 3 answer.

Solution

• 5 in each.


Mixture of 40 liters of milk and water contains 10% water. How much water should be added to

make water 20%?

• Water is 4 and milk is 36 now 36 is 80 %• 36*100/80 = 45• Thus 5 liters water should be added.
