The University of Dayton (UD) acquired the former NCR

world headquarters building and 115 acres of land just

east of the UD campus, a site originally designed by

the Olmstead brothers to be a recreational park for

NCR employees. The site features a 1.5 mile abandoned

oxbow, which is a remnant of the Miami River that was

cut off from the river by the Army Corps of Engineers

after the great flood of 1913.

SWA’s redevelopment master plan maintains

the natural beauty and history of the site, while

incorporating much needed amenities for UD’s

growing community. The design includes a multi-

purpose building for alumni events and banquets,

re-naturalizing the park with native plants, promoting

renewable energy R&D with an outdoor laboratory,

renovating some of the existing picnic structures to

become study halls & libraries, a university beach

with access to the canal, a storage facility for canoe

rentals and local organizations, a terraced amphitheater

for university events and an overall trail system that

connects to the UD main campus.
