Dubbed by Opera News as “one of the fastest-rising podium stars in North America,” Young Alumni Awardee Christopher Allen (MM Orchestral Conducting, ‘11) received the prestigious Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award in 2017. He recently lead the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s

“Rising Stars” concert, which is available to watch online.

Scott Coulter (BFA Musical Theatre, ’93), Distinguished Service Awardee, is one of New York’s most honored vocalists with five Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) Awards, five Bistro Awards and two Nightlife Awards for Outstanding Vocalist. He has performed at most of NYC’s top rooms including Birdland, Feinstein’s/ 54 Below and The Oak Room at the Algonquin.

Young Alumni Awardee Connor Gallagher (BFA Musical Theatre, ’06) enjoys a multi-faceted career as a creator of theatre, film, music videos and live event shows. He most recently choreographed Broadway’s Beetlejuice and the New York revival of The Robber Bridegroom, which won him the Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography Off-Broadway.

Betty Glover (BM Trombone, ’44), Dean’s Medal Recipient, is a trailblazer for women in music. In 1952 she joined the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and became the first female bass trombonist in the country. She held the position for nearly 33 years — all while on faculty at CCM, where she conducted the Brass Choir. Brian Lazarte (BFA E-Media, ’06), Young Alumni Awardee, was the executive producer and co-director of McMillions, a six-part HBO documentary on the McDonald’s monopoly fraud case, which was nominated for five Emmy Awards including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series in 2020.

Distinguished Alumni Awardee Diana Maria Riva (BFA Drama, ’91; MFA Theatre Performance, ’95), plays Detective Ana Perez in Netflix’s hit dark comedy Dead to Me, which is in production for season three. Lead by actresses Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, the cast received a 2021 Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Grammy nominee and 2014 International Opera Awards Male Singer of the Year, Stuart Skelton (MM Voice, ’95), Distinguished Alumni Awardee, is one of the finest heldentenors on the stage today and is critically acclaimed for his outstanding musicianship, tonal beauty and intensely dramatic portrayals.

Tamara Wilson (BM Voice, ‘04), CCM Young Alumni Awardee, is internationally recognized for her interpretations of Verdi, Mozart, Strauss and Wagner. Watch her star as Odabella in highlights from Verdi’s Attila, presented online by the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Distinguished Alumni Awardee Xian Zhang (Orchestral Conducting, att. ’98-00) is a “virtual concert jet-setter” (New York Times). Despite the pandemic, she led virtual concerts with the Seattle Symphony, Houston Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, where she is Music Director.
