Disease International students must ensure they are in good health to study in Malaysia. Visa & Student PassInternational students must obtain a student pass to study in Malaysia. Prior to their arrival to Malaysia, they must obtain a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) of which must be submitted to the Malaysian Embassy/ High Commission in their country for them to get Single Entry Visa. LIFE AT UPM

Student LifeA�ordable Cost of LivingThe cost of living for International students studying at UPM is reasonably low compared to international standards, between MYR900.00– MYR1200.00 (USD300.00-USD400.00) a month (not inclusive accommodation) depending on individual needs. Necessary facilities and amenities are readily available within the campus and its vicinity to make the life of a student much easier.

CultureMalaysian culture is an amalgamation of all the di�erent ethnicities that are found within the country. At UPM, the cultural diversity is further enriched by the presence of close to 5000 international students who are enrolled in UPM.

Safety Students’ safety is taken seriously at UPM. UPM’s security personnel patrol the campus frequently and are always at hand to o�er assistance as and when necessary.

Entertainment & Shopping UPM’s main campus is a 20-minute drive away from Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. Students can access the nation’s top entertainment, shopping and cultural centres via a rapid city rail service.

CurrencyThe monetary unit of the country is Ringgit Malaysia (MYR). The exchange rate is valued at USD1.00 = MYR4.20 (subject to change). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and money changers.

Facilities & AmenitiesAccommodation on CampusThe on campus accommodation provides great value-for-money and are situated in close proximity to campus facilities, transport and other important consumer services. There are two (2) types of accommodation within the UPM campus which are available for international students which include student apartments which comprise 2-bedroom and 1-bathroom �ats, and residential colleges, which comprise twin sharing rooms with common facilities. International students are advised to reserve their accommodation before coming to Malaysia as apartments and rooms in residential college are limited. The cost of accommodation can vary from USD100.00- USD300.00 a month.

Undergraduate student will be automatically provided with on campus accommodation which is twin sharing room. Students do not need to apply for the on campus accommodation. Student also can choose whether to accept the o�er to stay on campus or o� campus. UPM will not be responsible to �nd an o� campus accommodation. UPM also will not be responsible for any matter related to the rental and tenancy agreement made between Student and the owners/agents for the o� campus accommodation.

O� Campus AccommodationThe nearby o� campus accommodation are in Seri Kembangan and Serdang. Approximately 15 minutes from UPM by bus. UPM Shuttle Bus services are available for UPM students straight to the campus.

FoodThere are many choices of cafeteria, restaurants and food stalls available within the campus and in the surrounding neighbourhood. Food can be obtained at any hour, for, besides the cafeterias at faculties, many eat-outs in the vicinity are open 24-hours. Among well-known fast food joints available in the vicinity are McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken to name a few.

Health & WelfareAll international students can access outpatient clinic services provided at the University Health Centre which is located within the campus. The health centre provides a comprehensive array of health services and is well-equipped with modern facilities and pharmaceutical amenities which enable the e�cient provision of e�ective health and dental services to all registered students and sta�. Among facilities and services available at the centre are medical, dental, x-ray- physiotherapy, ambulance service, dispensary, laboratory etc.

IT FacilityUPM’s IT infrastructure provides a range of facilities and services to assist students with their IT-related needs. Wireless hotspots and access to the Internet and other online resources including Library e-resources/e-journals and student portals are readily available throughout the university.

Sports & RecreationUPM’s sports facilities are numerous and are aimed at encouraging and supporting its students in their sports initiatives. UPM’s commitment to sports can be seen by the dedicated block for athletes, built at the University’s Sixth College. UPM also has a swimming pool, a sports complex with a main stadium for track and �eld events, a multipurpose hall (for indoor games such as squash, netball, sepak takraw, volleyball, basketball), a golf course, an equine park etc.

AmenitiesBasic amenities available within the campus include post o�ce, bank, book-shop, optical shop etc.

INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT SERVICESInternational CentreThe International Centre of UPM supports the university’s mission to become a university of international repute. It is basically responsible for providing all the necessary support to international students who are studying at UPM. It also serves as a one-stop centre for information on the university’s international activities.

International Student Association (UPMISA)UPMISA is a student association for international students studying at UPM and is basically responsible for fostering a good relationship among all international students of UPM by organizing various interaction programmes and activities.

FOUNDATION PROGRAMMEUniversiti Putra Malaysia’s Foundation programme is run by the Centre of Foundation Studies for Agricultural Science. The programme is named “Foundation Programme for Agricultural Science”. The foundation programme provides the academic background in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Agriculture, English For Academic Purpose, Oral Interaction Skills and Introduction to Information Technology. This programme is designed to prepare students with the necessary foundation before they pursue for bachelor programmes at University Putra Malaysia. This Programme is delivered through engaging lectures supplemented with laboratory, and �eld work and projects to build the knowledges and necessary skills to succeed not only in their undergraduate studies, but more importantly, as independent life-long learners.
