Supervision
You must have at least two UWA supervisors. You have a Principal supervisor responsible for your academic leadership and a Coordinating supervisor responsible for your academic management.

SPORS Questionnaire
Student Perceptions of Research Supervision (SPORS) is a tool to facilitate discussion between you and your supervisory team about expectations of supervision.
The tool consists of a pair of matching questionnaires – one for you and one for a supervisor. You can adapt the tool to your needs by adding or deleting questions.
The SPORS questionnaires can be used early in research candidature and throughout candidature to re-align your team expectations.

Supervisory Relationships & Conflicts of Interest
To better understand UWA’s expectations of your conduct and the conduct of your supervisors, read Universities Australia’s Principles for Respectful Supervisory Relationships and UWA’s Professional and Personal Relationships policy.
In addition to maintaining professional, respectful relationships with your supervisors, your relationships cannot involve any conflicts of interest. Examples of possible conflicts of interest outlined in the Examinations Policy may be useful in helping you consider if any of the relationships in your supervisory team are conflicted.

Graduate Research Coordinators
Each school has at least one Graduate Research Coordinator (GRC). GRCs are responsible for
• Inducting you into your school
• Providing counsel to you at all stages of candidature and referring you and your supervisors to specific sources of support and assistance
• Coordinating professional development activities such as research seminars
GRCs also approve your research proposal, annual progress reports and thesis and approve any requests to change your candidature. They do this by reading and signing your paperwork before this paperwork is submitted to the GRS.
Some schools have very stable GRC positions, others are more dynamic. An updated list of GRCs is available from the GRS webpages.
