typical lot dimensions

spaces are separated with movable wall panels and movable closet units, leaving the central utility and stair core as the only modules bearing permanent walls.

the evohome is designed for a flexible floor plan, allowing the home owner to design and choose the arrangements of their living spaces based on their needs and lifestyle.

the evohome is designed around two permanent cores. the stairwell and utility core.

additionally, the stairwell doubles as a cooling tower which pulls the hot air inside the home, up and out throught the top of the stairwell.

creating a definition that allows the designer to adjust and fabricate the camera obscura specified to the clients desire and activate the option to mass produce the obscura while knowing the exact amount of material and at what cost

1 structure height + diameter

each of the following features contain a number slider which allows the designer to easily adjust the size and dimensions of the camera obscura, allowing the chance to produce fabrication drawings, calculations and dimensions before it is built.

water science and education center desert waterscapes | spring studiodavid newton | professor | 2010

Park, Tempe Town Lake - Tempe, Arizona

program : desert water science and education center. mission : educate the public on the history of phoenix’s unique water systems and to foster awareness of the scarcity and value of water, possibly using the building as a tool for collection and displaying water

concept : to generate and refine the existing topography into high and low points. the simplified and dynamic landscape becomes a destination where the public can explore and engage the landscape both inside and out. users can interact with the landscape and the embedded building, framing moments of water collection and greening niches.

concept sketches : have the site collect rain water in one area. engage building by submerging underneath the site

Using the voronoi tiling algorithm, the site is divided as a depiction of earth dessication [Natural cracking].

increase water collection on site by making existing slopes more dynamic

the newly divided site is then pushed and pulled to celebrate the original high and low points, meanwhile transforming the site into a new dynamic topography.

the corners are peeled up replicating the later stages of earth dessication, creating an opportunity for light and water strategies.

the building is inserted into the topography at the highest point of the topography, situated next to the water collection area.

spine walldigital fabrication | graduate seminar david newton | professor | 2010

The concept for the spine wall was overlapping sections, much like the vertebrae in a spine. The design was fabricated using both the constraints of the material and the cnc router.

First began by drawing a simple line, and then bending at every 2’. This process was then repeated, bending the line at every 1’. This was continued for 4 steps

To create a level of transparency, these lines became 2” strips of mdf spaced at every .5”. These wall panels can be configured in multiple different ways to create specific forms and transparency.

concept sketches

each spine wall segment is made of 2 - 8’x4’ of 1/4” mdf board

mdf is cut into 4’x4’ pieces due to cnc router limitations
