New This Month: Unitech Building Systems is proud to add another valuable client to the UBS family. We have collaborated with HSF, a developer in Africa that has awarded Unitech Building Systems a 6,000 Housing & Solar Technology project. The UBS/HSF joint venture will provide Green and Sustainable housing for the various coops that have granted and pledged the funding for the project in conjunction with the respective banks. The first phase consists of (500) 64 square meter homes that will be completed through 2011, and through the first quarter of 2012. “I am very happy to collaborate with Unitech”, stated Mr. D., HSF’s president during his visit to the United States on June 20th, 2011. The collaboration will be yet another milestone that both companies have achieved in providing sustainable, long lasting economical homes, while providing the socio-economic benefit of a Master Planned Community. Unitech has opened a subsidiary office in Africa and will begin the first phase of development of the project in the fall of 2011. Unitech’s experience and capabilities in developing countries has gained the attention of reputable developers and governmental agencies in undeveloped parts of the world.

We recommend using
compact fluorescent
bulbs with solid state
ballasts that fit into a
regular light bulb socket,
using 1/4 of the energy
of a regular
bulb while generating
the same amount
of light.
Think about saving water
when you shave, wash
dishes, do laundry, water
the lawn, wash
the car, hose off the
sidewalks.... avoid
sending water and $
down the drain
Not just the furnace, but the
water heater too -‐-‐ set it at
130 to 140 degrees. Turn
the setting to low or off
when you leave for the
weekend or for a long
vacation, and then put a
note on your bath-‐room
mirror so you’ll remember
to turn it
up when you return.
Washers can use more than
50 gallons of water per load,
so avoid washing a lot of
small loads whenever
possible. Also, be sure to
choose the
lowest level of water needed
for each load, use warm
water instead of hot, and set
the rinse cycle to use cold
water

Did you know? . . .
Wood Surpasses Steel and concrete in the following categories
ENERGY USE
Wood Products require much less energy to produce than concrete or steel. An independent
comparison of the energy needed to obtain, manufacture, transport and install building
materials for identical wood frame, steel frame and concrete houses proves wood’s
environmental superiority over alternative materials. The result is more fossil fuels saved with
less air and pollution.
STATS

“Green Goals, Think Unitech”
The green market was 2% of non-‐residential construction projects in 2005; 12% in 2008; and grew to be 28%-‐35% in 2010
Results show that manufactures of wood materials use 53% less energy than steel and 120% less energy than
concrete when produced.
As the world’s only renewable building material, wood cannot only be recycled, but
regenerated as well.
North American Forests have
grown 20% since 1970
- Energy Use - Pollution - Green Building
- Resource Use - Environmental impact - Eco Friendliness
Buildings represent 72% of U.S electricity consumption.
Green building will support 7.9 million U.S. jobs and pump $554 million into the American economy over the next four years (2009-‐2013)
