Petal has been raised to godlike status. Feed her with cookies NOW.

Peacy has a new avi, an innocent guardian angel. You can fool some people some of the time..........

StuArt is in Wales and feels that he and Flobo can converse in obscure languages.

Judywork is angling for a new job..... will update asap.

Wickedjr has finally got internet, tv and phone. No furniture, no washing machine, no storage. Everything has a season.

Simtweek is eating peanut butter eggs. Bleah.

Bulfrog's preggie craving? Salsa and Hardee's Curly fries. Better than mine, which was elastic bands for the first. The second time was anchovies.

Judy got her job! Whoopee, now if she can just find her paperwork...

The irritation from Israel is still clamouring for attention.

Scott has rebuilt The White House, complete wit Obamasim.

Kim has reproduced The Thin White Duke.

Cera is swearing at a computer, which is not listening.

Jorgahaq is spending so much time at A&E she has her own seat.

Picture Perfect Week 23 - Safe and Sound

For this week the brief went as follows:-

'Your client is a little odd. He has read Nostrodamus, checked the Mayan predictions and is convinced that the world is going to h*** in a handbucket in December 2012. He wants a safe place under his house... in which he can shelter till the worst is over. Who knows how long that will be. Food and water will be available. So in the space (see screenie, 6 x 10) you must provide comfortable, entertaining living. A place to sleep, a place to cook and anything else you feel is essential. After all it is not a prison.'

Now this was going to be difficult as the confined space makes picture taking very hard indeed so lets see how they did.

This is the size they had to work with.

As you can see somewhat restricted.

First, somewhere else in a different time two members realised they had done this before (I have never said my ideas are original).

Page 4: TSS Insider Issue 4

Wot Cera did.

Wot Smoky did.

Well enough of that what did our entrants come up with?

Judywork, lovely colours in this one.

Page 5: TSS Insider Issue 4

Scorpio went dark and sultry.

Bylos was in an aqua mood.

Pallypoo is determined notto get bored.

Page 6: TSS Insider Issue 4

So what did the judges say?

Attention Week 23 Participants

Great job everybody! Here are our thoughts:

Judy (cc) - Cera says - I like your layout, I really like how there are individual rooms, spaces are clearly defined. The soft colors are great too!Tweek says - Great space! The colors are great as well as the decor. Very cozy feel. I like it!!

Scorpio - Cera says - Crazy color combo and i love it! The snakeskin pattern on the bed is an unusual choice, but it's fun!Tweek says - Nice colors. You've got what you need to survive in your little space. Looks good!

bylos - Cera says - It's like being outside! I love the grass and they blue sky! You have everything you to keep your sims active and learning. They will be totally ready to rebuild the outside world!Tweek says - I like the color. Plenty of activity items to keep you occupied. Layout is good. Nice job!

Pally - Cera says - I love the green! Fabulous layout, I'm shocked at how spacious you've kept it. Lots to do to in the wait!

everything you need. I like it!

And the winners? Well the upshot was everybody won..... all four participants. Which was very fair as they were all wonderful.

One of the tools that come with The Sims 3 is the ability to build your own world, fill it with your own lots and populate. So there have been many who tried and failed as it is an expansion of the game which is extraordinarily complex. A beautifully sculpted landscape takes a while to make, the roads don't always do what they should and placement of spawners and other stuff takes a while. Or so I believe because I have never had the courage to try. However there are those who manfully battle all odds and play at god.

It is easy to give up and skulk away, but in order to encourage and egg on this creator here are a few pictures of the work in progress.

So Peacemaker ic...... buckle down and finish what is promising to be a beautiful idyllic world.

A beach with colourful huts, begging for a picnicker to arrive complete with barbeque.

Pretty huh?? Got your camera?

Page 18: TSS Insider Issue 4

A lovely curve of beautiful homes.

Historic places to visit and perhaps dream in.

Not only lots but a divine winery. Sorry, nectary. The inside is beautiful too.

Ok, that's a taster of what Peacy is up to, so shall we all descend in a group nag? No, we will gently encourage, then nag.

A living room is an important place for any sim. It is a

room where a family can spend quality time after work

watching their favourite program, push the coffee table

aside and burn off that Pavlova, or entertain new or old

friends. The problem with the living room is it has to

perform many functions and has to do it stylishly. This

can be hard but I am here to help. I will give you some

tips on how to add some style and class to your Sims

living room.

First off let’s talk about furniture placement. This is

dependent on the size of your room but my advice is try

to include a three seater sofa. This adds the much

needed room for chatting, watching television or even a

quick power nap. In a narrow space this can be

complemented with one or two single chairs. The larger

the room you can compliment with a love seat and

single chair, or two love seats. I tend to make a living

room area no larger the 7x7 tiles. The reason for this is it

gets harder to make the room look furnished as the

pieces drift towards the walls leaving an empty centre.

Coffee tables are also one of my tips for making a living

room look complete. Remember though, if the room is

small, don’t force one in.

Fire places or a television to a lesser extent, helps create

a much needed focal point for the room and helps draw

the eye. It helps to define the pace a well. You can

indeed have both in the same room thanks to plasma

flat screen televisions or like the picture above, off to

one side.

Bookcases are also an important aspect of a living room.

This is a multipurpose zone and in order to make sure it

gets used the way it is supposed to, it needs to offer a

wide variety of activities. A comfy book in front of a cosy

fire is great in real life so why not offer your Sims the

same luxuries?

Now let’s talk about the design. Classic, regal,

contemporary, modern or even gothic, a living room can

be finished in many different ways. Feature walls is one

interior design element I like to incorporate into most of

Page 28: TSS Insider Issue 4

my builds, this was covered in my previous article in the

TSS Insider, volume 2. Saying that if you are decorating,

try to keep a single feature wall and make the other 3

walls the same pattern or texture. Keep to 3 main

colours as well in a 60-30-10 ratio. You don’t have to

have a feature wall though as shown in this picture

below. It uses a wall with moulding throughout but it’s

the fireplace that centres the room, making it pleasant

to the eye.

This formal living room offers what a sim needs, a place

to socialise, read or even nap. The soft colours follow the

60-30-10 rule with white being the predominant colour,

next being cream, with the highlight being blue. This is

an example of Georgian interior design and I find

pictures help to create the look your after.

Modern living rooms tend to be easier to decorate as

there is no “rules” to follow. In essence there isn’t, but

keep it simple otherwise it will look like a busy flashback

from the 80’s. In a modern room creating alcoves and an

asymmetrical layout helps to create interest when you

want a minimalist look. This can be done by cutting into

the existing living space but planning ahead can help

minimise the loss of floor space. An example of this is

the sunken living room from one of my Usonian homes.

Lastly feature lighting should be a consideration for any

room. Place lights willy-nilly just will not do. You need to

test as you go and try out custom light intensities. I like

centring a chandelier over the centre of the living space

and either side of the focal point given the space. In

modern rooms, consider floor lamps and off enter

lighting taking advantage of a ceiling feature like the

above picture.

This may seem overwhelming reading these tips but just

take it slow. Try different combinations, colour palettes

and pictures to create a room you feel your Sims

deserve. Don’t be restricted by the generic wallpapers

that we were supplied with. Experiment and learn from

your mistakes. Keep to these simple tips and you should

have a room your proud of in no time. Your sim deserves

the best you can give, so why deprive them of it?

Page 29: TSS Insider Issue 4

TSS Insider is pleased to announce a competition to create a logo for the front cover of this increasingly popular publication.

Well all right the one I did is dreadful......ok on white (ish) lousy on colour.....

So I need a better one. Design a suitable logo, preferably in photoshop with a transparent background so it overlays over type, piccys etc.

I will start a thread for you to show your efforts, you may do as many as you like. After a week or so the results will be put to public vote and the winner gets a set of their choice.

A COMPETITIONPrize!

Intriguing, artistic and challenging.
