Happy Post Fourth of July to all. For political people this is always a fun day

of flag waving, parades, hot temperatures in our desert and fire on the

mountain in the wake of a spectacular show. Lucky we live in Tucson.

Cindy Coleman and I traveled to Nogales to participate in their parade

with the Az GOP and the local candidates, including Shelley Kais and Chris

Ackerley. We are always trying to make inroads to non-Republican groups

– or at least we keep trying. With the last few weeks until the Early Ballots go out the campaigns are

looking for volunteers to get the signs out on the streets and help with the upcoming GOTV efforts. Train-

ing sessions for the i360 Software at the Campaign School and at LD9 this last Saturday have been well at-

tended. This shows a willingness to keep up with the changing landscape of political activism.

We look forward to the National Convention later this month, hoping for no extreme incidents to derail

the election. We round out the end of the month with our program of Senatorial Candidates speaking to

us at lunch at La Paloma. Thank you Jodi Bain for allowing us to dovetail on your membership to get good

rates there.

Volunteer hour spreadsheet. We know that our women are out on the streets working for campaigns

so I am going to re-emphasize that you MUST keep some sort of tabulation of your volunteer time. We

have attached the Volunteer Sheet to this newsletter to help guide you in what we are actually tabulating.

When you check in at our luncheons we will ask you to record your volunteer hours on a master spread-

sheet that is sitting at the check-in table. Since this is a two year tabulation we want to make it easier on

you. Just give your hours monthly and forget about them.

Dinesh D’Souza Event. The movie that was produced by Dinesh D’Souza’s production company, Hillary,

The Movie, will be kicking off July 21st in Tucson. There is a special showing by one political organization

that has purchased the whole theater. That showing is at the Oro Valley Marketplace. A group of our club

members is going to see the movie on Friday, July 22nd at the El Con Theater for the 10:30am show. If you

purchase your tickets at the Fandango website they are $6.25 plus whatever fee Fandango charges. We are

not certain if this will be a sell-out showing so if you want to join us, please get your tickets early. We will

meet in the lobby of the theater before the show. Please email [email protected] if you will be attend-

ing.

Campaign School. On Saturday, June 25th, the Pima County Republican Party held a Campaign Workshop

with 55 attendees. Many of our members attended, as well as presented training modules. This was an

overly compressed program but for many it was the first time they had been exposed to this type of train-

ing. Our members participated in this fashion – Dolores Johnston, Chair of the Event, Mary Preble, Cur-

riculum coordination, Cindy Coleman, presenter. Thank you, again, for stepping up to train the next gen-

eration of political activists and refreshing some of us has-beens to the next wave of politics.

WAYS AND MEANS TIANA SMITH

Congratulations to all the raffle winners last month! All money raised goes to support

the many activities of our Club, including sending members to AzFRW meetings and

conventions and campaign schools. Look for some more fun items at the next meet-

ing, and, of course, the 50/50 – always fun to win some cash!

We have sold/reserved about a third of the seats we have available for our Gaslight

Theater event August 18th. Now is the time to let me know you want tickets. If you

will be attending the luncheon, you can give me money then. If not, let me know and I

will make arrangements to meet up with you. This is going to be a very fun event and

I don’t want any of you to miss it, but my deadline is now July 31st. Call me or email

me at [email protected] or 886-3681. Look for the flyer in the newsletter.

Thanks again for your support!

For U.S. Senate

Born in 1967 to parents who were hard working middle income people. He

learned that having principles is the most important characteristic a person

can have. After graduating from high school, he earned a BA from The

College of New Jersey. In 1993, he founded Optimum Graphics USA,

LLC, a printing and promotional products company, one that he is proud to

have built, and one that has thrived, despite the federal government.

He is also active in the community. Many in the conservative community

have heard him speak on the merits of the FairTax (of which he is the Ari-

zona State Director). He is a Precinct Committeeman, a syndicated radio

host and is active in the local concerns of his fellow Arizonans. Married to

Roberta Gottfried for nearly 20, he has one son and one daughter.

TRUMP RALLY IN PHOENIX

Donald Trump headed to Phoenix on June 18th for a Presidential rally at the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum at the Arizona State Fairgrounds. Approximately 3500 attended this Rally on a very scorching temperature of 106 degrees! The TRUMP supporters were quite low key and more subdued than anticipated. Former Governor Jan Brewer spoke as did Sheriff Arapaio. Robert Graham, AZ GOP State Chair-man, gave an introduction. Others at the podium were State Treasurer Jeff DeWitt,

LEGISLATIVE ACTION

This bill creates the position of Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders to take over the

responsibilities of the Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Mental health programs are extended and training regarding mental health is expanded.

SAMHSA must establish the National Mental Health Policy Laboratory and the Interagency Serious Mental Illness Co-ordinating Committee.

This bill amends the Public Health Service Act to require the National Institute of Mental Health to translate evidence-based interventions and the best available science into systems of care.

Certain mental health care professional volunteers are provided liability protection.

Pediatric mental health subspecialists are eligible for National Health Service Corps programs.

An underserved population of children or a site for training in child psychiatry can be designated as a health profes-sional shortage area.

The protected health information of an individual with a serious mental illness may be disclosed to a caregiver under certain conditions.

This bill amends title XIX (Medicaid) of the Social Security Act (SSAct) to conditionally expand coverage of mental health services.

Part D (Voluntary Prescription Drug Benefit Program) of title XVIII (Medicare) of the SSAct is amended to require cover-age of antidepressants and antipsychotics.

If it will not increase Medicare spending, Medicare's 190-day lifetime limit on inpatient psychiatric hospital services is eliminated.

Health information technology activities and incentives are expanded to include certain mental health and substance abuse professionals and facilities.

This bill restricts the lobbying and counseling activities of protection and advocacy systems for individuals with men-

tal illness. These systems must focus on safeguarding the rights of individuals with mental illness to be free from

abuse and neglect.
