Late Fall 2012 Newswire Fall Shiverin’ From your Editor—Debbie Ewing Summer flew by so fast I must have missed it. As usual I was no where near ready for winter when it hit. Rather than risk getting stuck in my driveway (again!) I took a snow/vacation day last week and reluctantly put away the patio furniture in between shoveling the walks— three times! I’m asking Santa for a warm, short winter, but I haven’t been very good. Maybe you could ask him too? For the last few months I’ve been adding Agronomy to online help and to the training manual. Newswire Fall Shiverin’ From your Editor—Debbie Ewing

Summer flew by so fast I must

have missed it. As usual I was

no where near ready for winter

when it hit. Rather than risk

getting stuck in my driveway

(again!) I took a snow/vacation

day last week and reluctantly

put away the patio furniture in

between shoveling the walks—

three times! I’m asking Santa for a warm, short winter, but I

haven’t been very good. Maybe you could ask him too?

For the last few months I’ve been adding Agronomy to online

help and to the training manual. Now, I’m no agronomist (I

couldn’t even play one convincingly on TV) so I had to get a

little help. Okay, a lot of help. I want to thank Andre, Brittany

and Brad for their patient explanations of what agronomists

do, and how and when they do it. It must seem odd to those

outside the industry that there can be so much going on when

absolutely nothing is growing. With prepayment season about

to start, I hope you

get a chance to trial

our new Agronomy

module to help you

prepare for spring.

A Happy Tronia Halloween

With no declared theme this year, a ragged assortment of riff-raff

showed up for work on Halloween morning. Steve was a USB

stick (it is hard to tell exactly what that thing is from a photo) and

Sebastian claimed he couldn’t do any work for the rest of the day

because he was locked out. Nice try, kid.

Dee was with her kids in Disneyland (as if that

would be more fun) but the rest of us enjoyed a

potluck lunch that included Buffalo bat wings,

spider ball & crackers, and chocolate coffin

cake.

We decided that Joe, our Knight in Shining

Armour, looked just like Dirk from Dragon’s

Lair (if you’re too young to have played arcade

games in 1983 you’ll have to Google it).

When the votes were tallied it was The Perpet-

ual Bride-to-Be first, Ghost Buccaneer

second, and by a single vote, Roberta from

Technical Support third (Big Bang Simon

was a very close fourth).

I can’t wait for next year!

agrē Agronomy: What’s New?

As we have quite a few agronomists test-driving agrē Agronomy while it’s still under

development, here’s the highlights of what was added in the last release.

Enhanced Field Mapping

Add field outlines to your maps to better define the

location. Searching for field locations can also be done using

the legal land description (for fields in Alberta,

Saskatchewan, and Manitoba).

Crop Plans

Manage your own lists of crops and

varieties, and store your grower crop plans.

Track planned seed, fertilizer, and other

crop inputs.

Field Scouts

Manage your own lists of weeds, pests, and diseases; and

store your scouting results. Make product recommend-

ations to resolve issues found.

Document Manager

Actually part of Customer Relationship

Management, it comes in really handy for

Agronomy. It allows you to upload letters, pictures

(like field scout photos) and other documents to a

customer account.

agrē Tip: Keeping your Citrix Client Current

When notified during your morning login that there is a new version of the Citrix client

available, it’s easy to click “upgrade later” and then just never quite get around to doing it.

Here’s why it’s a good idea to keep your Citrix client current.

Bug Fixes

New versions fix errors in the Citrix client itself, as well as resolve

compatibility issues with newer versions of browsers (like Internet

Explorer 9) and operating systems (thinking of installing Windows 8?).

Security

Operating system security updates and browser updates are usually

installed on a regular basis, and they may cause issues or conflict with

the Citrix client. Citrix tries to stay on top of these changes and may

need to release new versions of their own client to work better with

other manufacturers’ software updates.

Performance

Citrix is always trying to improve with each release and new updates

can make a real difference to performance.

Why Should I Update my Citrix Client?

Your agrē password is like a key to your company's financial data vault. If someone knows it, or it's

simple enough for someone to figure out, they would

have free rein in agrē and everything in the audit trail

records would point back to you. Not a good thing!

If you haven’t done it already, please change your

default agrē password. We recommend at least 6 char-

acters with a combination of letters and numbers.

agrē Tips: Prepayment Prices

Use Current Price

What is it?

It’s a flag that tells agrē “use the price in effect on the day the customer is invoiced for the

product”. It works best for retailers who give all (or most) customers the same price.

How is it used?

When adding products to a work order, instead of typing a specific price, check the Use Cur-

rent Price box. When the customer is invoiced, they will be charged the current price

(whatever it may be on the day).

Prepaid Price Level

What is it?

A regular price level that’s been flagged as the Prepaid Price Level. Whenever a customer is

spending prepaid dollars, this would be the default price.

How is it used?

If all your customers get the same prepaid price, just flag the product on a work order as

prepaid, and it will be priced automatically with that product’s prepaid price.

If your customers get different prepaid prices, you can use the default prepaid price as a start-

ing point for individual pricing.

With prepayment season just getting started, here’s a few tools that may help you with pricing.

Putting them both together: Use Current Prepaid Price

What is it?

It’s a combination of the two tools giving customers a current prepaid price. It works best for

retailers who give all (or most) customers the same prepayment price.

How is it used?

You flag a prepaid price level, and you also check Use Current Price on the work order. The

end result is that the customer is charged whatever the prepaid price is on the day they’re

invoiced.
