We have built the most radical house we have ever made, an infinite plane facing the infinite sea.

A house facing the Atlantic Ocean, at the water’s edge on a beach of Cadiz, like a piece of earthly paradise, where the Romans once lived in

nearby Bolonia.

We built a powerful podium in Roman travertine whose upper horizontal plane becomes the protagonist of the space. Inside the podium, under-

neath this platform like a temenos, is the house.

Above and behind the stony platform, we have erected stone walls to protect us from the strong prevailing winds.

As if it were an acropolis. A temenos where the gods de-scend to converse with humans and toast with Sherry on this

plane on high looking out onto the infinite sea.

Two-bedroom apartment with high ceilings in the center St. Petersburg is located in a house built in the late 19th century.

The main wish of the customers was to get a bright space with preservation of 4 separate rooms: a bedroom, nursery, living room and kitchen.



Interior inherets the simplicity and comfort of Scandinavian style. High ceilings, white walls and floors, large windows and high doors make this apartment visually more spacious and geomet-

ric patterns, bright accessories and colorful decorations freshens up the entire ambience.

Furniture has strict laconic forms, mainly in light tones, functional and not overload the interior. Only the flooring of the hall can be regarded as the “kitsch” part of the interiors which contrast

and enhance the simple and modest approach of the entire project.

The shop sits next door to the Quality Chop House which has a reputation for excellent cooking and good quality ingredients. The Client approached us to consider design proposals for the

refurbishment of the adjacent shop unit that had recently become available.

The food had to be displayed in a clear and simple manner, but pay reference to the utilitarian aesthetic of the food units surrounding Smithfields meat market and Exmouth Market.

The fit out elements such as the counter, produce display and lighting deserved to portray a tex-tured and slightly rough finish, hence the display of end grain to all the plywood joinery.



The edges of the shelves expose the raw plywood to create a contrast with the black-ened surfaces and give the impression of packaging that has been sliced open.

The deep black stain contrasts sharply with the timber core of the units, reflecting the blackened character of labels commonly found on timber food crates. The blackened

stain plywood is reinforced by the use of cable lighting that represents the packaging and the wrapping of the food produced. The use of exposed bulbs reflects the raw nature of

the food preparation that relies on exceptional raw ingredients.

Original black and white tiles behind the butcher’s counter were retained and continue the basic palette used throughout the space.

Access to the working kitchen of the Quality Chop House restaurant was important to ensure that the fresh food and cake trays are constantly re-stocked with baked good

throughout the day.

The shutter was born in the Mediterranean area with the function to filter the light and the heat of the day, while allowing the passage and the

air exchange. A simple object that transforms the windows, and the sunlight, in a real lamp that allow

to modulate the light.

A lamp as opposed, to “light up” when too much light enters a room. Full of charm, the shutter is a filter between internal and external sounds and

permeable to perfumes but which reduces the amount of light without completely blocking the

view towards the outside.

The product is a unique blend of two typologies of seating – a net structured hammock and a conventional upholstered lounge chair. The chair stems from the studio’s materials driven, process led, industrial design approach, research into the construc-tion of mesh materials, and a study of the relationships between traditional seating components.

GABRIEL DAWEBorn in Mexico City,

Gabriel Dawe is an installation artist, internationally known with his rainbow like fiber based site-spesific installations

being exhibited all around the world for last 10 years.

After living in Canada for several years, Dawe moved to Dallas to study in Univeristy of Texas, where he centered his work around exploration of

textiles and how it may shape a conceptual shelter as a human need. Besides the connection between fashion and architecture, Dawe’s works has a deeper ideational aspect. Most of his works examine sociological

problems of his hometown, pointing out Mexico’s machismo culture and other complicated gender identity issues.

Plexus, his most famous work, made out of light and delicate fibers rep-resents the human anatomy, how the blood vessels and nerves gener-ates a pattern through their network. The semi-transparent installations offering various views with the participation of light flowing into space,

recalls color hue of sun light, inhabited into space as an organic web. The artwork does not only gets built and then demounted. With his sequel project Relics, Dawe gives a second life to his art by collecting all the

material used in the installation and produces another form of existence as a continuous concept.



Amusing dream-like visuals which the threads creates among the space reinterprets a universal theme on human presence with sociological concern while offering a fresh, attractive look. His works published in numerous media tools and recognized by many different respected institu-tions and art galleries.

Timgad, also called as Thamu-gas or Thamugad, is a Roman colonial town spread among the mountainous site of Aurès on northern lands of Algeria. Archi-tectural and urban pattern entirely express a powerful image, com-prising numerous influences of all the strong and glorious colonies and communities once inhabited this region.

Founded by the emperor Trajan as a military colony around AD100 ex nihilo, Timgad grew rapidly during first centuries and enjoyed its golden age, building up major public buildings, private residences, temples and baths, until it was heavily damaged by Van-dals in 4th century. Continuing to exist after the Byzantine reconquest later on, Timgad was entirely destroyed during the Arab sacking in 8th century. Ruins and remainings were found with the archeological studies that was launched in 1881, there was no sign of the city before the excavations.

Timgad’s architectural value comes from the various historical stages that the city has been through, each adding diverse typologies with varying building techniques. The

original plan illustrates a precise grid urban planning style of Romans, reflected through religious complexes, defensive fortified areas or other public conveniences.

The ruins that can be visited today are regarded as a very substantial example of grid urban layout of Romans, inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage in 1982 and preserved

according to the termed policies since then.

Wegner’s modernist approach that centers around functionality often defined as Organic Functionality. Starting his career in a cabinetmaker firm, Wegner’s

biggest progression is considered as the years he spent working for Arne Jacobsen, another Danish modernist pioneer, right before starting his own

company to produce his own designs. Wegner’s characteristic approach can be sensed from traditionally constructed pieces, blending metal with plywood,

solid wood, papercord or many other different materials. Mortise, tenons, finger joines and custom-made sculpted elements for armrests and seatings are

the most exclusive details of Wegner’s most famous iconic chairs.

Hospital Veterinário da Mata de Santa Iria is an extremely welcom-ing and influential pet hospital, a very innovative idea opposed to the accustomed cold and clinical look and atmosphere of ordinary veterinaries, incisively styled and designed by Portugese design firm, Ark.studio.

Designer Margarida Matias, founder of the multi-disciplinary firm, Ark.studio, expresses their design approach as a search for tactile and poetic experience of the space, gently forming the corporate identity into interiors with a conceptual color scheme and detail precisions. Their design style is a mix of Scandinavian simplicity and traditional Portuguese mood which can be clearly observed throughout the entire project of this pet hospital.




Considering the welcoming motto of the veterinary hospital as the client, the most important fact about the project is the cozy ambient and serene atmosphere provided equally arranged both for the pets and the owners, aiming to resemble a home feeling with a peaceful environment in order to transform the intimidating mood of an ordinary

clinic into a living room with a familiar ambience.

The modern refurbishing carefully implemented into the contemporary form of the existing building, using natural wood and slate as well as some cultural Portuguese decorative elements, patterned tiles. Design team aimed to maximize the light in order to create

a brightly lit interior, avoiding the artificial lighting as much as they can. Each furniture is forming an enjoyable harmony with a vintage touch, based upon the soft shades of

pastel colors.

This fine looking veterinarian hospital deserves to be listed as a suggested design point, since the whole concept and theme is a new way to design clinics, where the interiors invites everyone inside, ensuring an exquisite relaxing experience both for staff, the customers and the patients, our beloved four-legged friends.

While the common use of electricity can be seen throughout the entire world, our cars, most of which still use oil, are turning into something different. Electric cars are becoming more and more powerful and some of them don’t even rely on oil any-

more. And thus, a new and cleaner age begins.

When the cars are main subject of the talk, most people think of sport cars or racing cars. This is why, with the turning of page, a new age also begins for motor races. Formula E, a new car racing platform, is becoming more and more popular each day. And, according to head of Virgin’s Formula E racing team Alex Tai, the noise the new cars make is something the behold: “Part spaceship, part jet engine and

part Tron bike.”

Although the talk of Formula E has been around for some time, the championship is to start this year. The rules has been set, the teams formed and the cars are ready

to burst. But the new Formula E Championship is breaking quite a few taboos as well: female drivers, city centre circuits and, most controversially, a fan vote to give the most popular drivers power boosts to blast them past opponents during races.

While all these might be important, maybe the most important part of these races is that they are zero-emission race series. Which means, these cars will not contribute

to air pollution.

The cities that has been chosen for FIA Formula E 2014 are Beijing, Putrajaya, Rio de Janeiro, Punta del Este, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Miami, Monte Carlo, Belin and London. And the racing circuits in these cities will be approx-imately 2.5 km to 3 km long. Average racing time is planned to be around one hour. And during the single pit stop of the race, drives will be changing cars rather than batteries.

The first season of the race will be held with 10 teams. Each team will include two drivers and four cars. The teams that will race in this championship are: Amlin Aguri, Andretti Formula E, Audi Sport ABT, China Racing, Dragon Rac-ing, E.Dams-Renault, Mahindra Racing, Trulli, Venturi and Virgin Racing.

For this first season, all teams have been supplied with electric racing cars named Spark-Renault SRT 01E built by Spark Racing Technology. The motors of these cars are developed by McLaren and are the same ones that is used in its P1 supercar. The drivers, including F1 stars like Jarno Trulli, say the cars feel like regular Formula One cars. The top speed of these cars are 225kph (140mph) which is quite lower than the 350kph of the regular F1 cars but as most say, speed is not the key to entertainment.

As the most interesting part of this new race, “fan boost” brings the spectators into the race. The three drivers who amass the most social media votes will get a 2.5 second power burst for their cars. This burst will increase the power of their cars by %50. While this might be seen as a controversial thing, Formula E chief executive Alejandro Agag says that this boost would not cause a driver to win the race, if he were the last car in the line. If he is second though, he may win at the end.

But this new race is not all about “just creating a new way to race.” Two most im-portant objects of this new race is to attract young people to Formula races and to make the world take notice that fully electric cars can easily replace the oil cars.

While it still is not clear if Formula E can make electric cars “cool” or not, one thing is certain: When a electric car races in the middle of your city, you have no choice but to notice it and see that, there is nothing a regular car can do and electric one cannot. The first race of the championship will be on the streets of Beijing in September 2014 and the Championship will end with the London race in June 2015.
