Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. — Colossians 4:2

As I write this devotion, it is Tuesday night of Salkehatchie, and it has

been an eventful week. Watching these young people come together and work

at being the hands and feet of God is an incredible gift and opportunity. I enjoy

watching them work, but I most enjoy watching their faith in our living God

come alive. Just this morning, I saw their prayer lives come alive as we dealt

with the struggles that we had before us on our work site. And again, God

prevailed!

Most of us realize that prayer is important, but we often struggle to

make it a priority. Busy work schedules, the distractions of technology, and the

demands of daily life can make it difficult to set aside time for prayer. How

can we be more successful in devoting ourselves to prayer?

Some people find that praying at set times in the day is helpful. I read

about someone who set an alarm on her watch several times a day to remind

herself to pray. She was surprised to find that after doing this for a while she

no longer needed the alarm to remind her. What began as a regimented routine

soon became a cherished habit.

Many people find it helpful to read prayers that others have written.

Did you know that the book of Psalms is sometimes called “the prayer book of

God’s people”? For many of us, reading the Psalms or other prayers recorded

in the Bible has energized our devotional life.

Then there is the value of praying with others. Gathering with other

believers for prayer and fellowship is a great way to build one another up and

grow closer together in the Lord.

God is pleased with every effort we make to devote ourselves to prayer.

The creator of the universe wants to spend time with us, and he loves to hear

from us. That thought alone can inspire us to make prayer a greater prior-

ity!

So, Let’s Pray Together! Lord, help me to be devoted to prayer. Help me to connect with you in

whatever way I can. Use me to help others grow in prayer as well. In Jesus,

Amen.

I pray I see you in church on Sunday as we worship together.

TREASURER’S REPORT June 30, 2019)

Music Ministry News The music department is continuing to be on summer schedule. We have music every

Sunday, but we are not having Wednesday night practice. This will continue until after Labor

Day. The article next month will be more specific about dates. I hope that each of you are

having a nice summer so far. It is hot, and trying to stay cool is a challenge at times.

Believe it or not, Albert and I are looking at Christmas music. That might be a good way to at least

think cool. In order to have everything ready, you have to start early. I do love listening to and

comparing anthems and carols. Since I love Christmas so much, it is really fun. Some decisions are

made, and others are still up in the air. There are plenty of pieces to hear.

On a personal note, by Albert's birthday toward the end of the month, we should have a new baby

granddaughter. Sometimes it seems hard to believe that it will be three years since Hannah was born.

That was the day before his birthday. This one will be close to the same day. My son and daughter-in-

law along with Hannah and Callie and, of course, us, are very excited. We all appreciate your prayers

as the day grows closer.

Stay cool and think about joining the music program when rehearsals start. I can always use more

handbell players. Pray about it, and come and talk to me. Blessings to all.

We are gearing up for a new school year!

We are incredibly excited about this upcoming fall for both our Light

keepers and Amplified Youth! If you are new, our Sunday night programs begin September 8th. We meet at 5 pm with a free meal for

youth and children followed by music and worship, games, crafts and Biblical lessons with age appropriate application. If your child has not come before, we would love for them to join us! (We do have nursery

care in case your family has a younger sibling!)

NEW RELEASE FORMS

It is that time of year again to fill out release

the office and fill out a release form. This

will cover their involvement through next

summer.

Thank You to EVERYONE who

like our pastors to pray for your

rail, and Charles will ensure you

get it back sometime later.
