TRIALS OF THE EVERCHOSEN

WELCOMEWelcome to the Events Pack for a brand new Warhammer World Campaign Weekend - The Trials of the Everchosen. Since you have decided to take a closer look, then prepare yourself for a weekend of heroic adventure combined with herculean tasks and beating overwhelming odds. Destiny awaits, for only the greatest of warriors can hope to complete, nay, even survive the Trials of the Everchosen.

WHAT IS THE WEEKEND ALL ABOUT?The Trials of the Everchosen is all about taking a band of Heroes and using some or all of them to try and complete feats worthy of the greatest legend, just as Archaon himself once did. You will be tasked to single-handedly slay mighty beasts, lay low the greatest of villains, defend villages from unending onslaughts and more.

The games will also be of different sizes, such as individual skirmishes where a lone warrior hunts a evil creature in its lair, and larger games, where an elite group of warriors seek to defend a village from unending hordes of minions.

To take part you’ll need a force of heroes who are willing to take on the Trials of the Everchosen, and a larger force of warriors to act as the ‘Villains’ of each encounter. The exact details of how this work, and a brief description of the games you will play, is listed below under “Armies - What you need to bring” and “The Games - Let the Trials begin”.

As you succeed (or fail) in your various trials, you will discover treasure and gain new skills to use later on in the campaign. These treasures are unique to the event and will be designed to make sure our intrepid heroes stand a chance against the horrors of the Mortal Realms.

Gather your warriors, champion and get them ready for the greatest challenges of their lives.

ARMIESFor this event you will need two armies. One is called a “Hero Army” and the other is called the “Villain Army”. The details ofwhat you will need for each is listed below.

HERO ARMY:For your Hero Army, all you need to bring down is a selection of at least 5 heroes, of any kind. In some games you will only need one, in others you will need all 5.

We recommend for the best experience that you bring at least one Wizard and/or Priest model – you will need some magicaldefence in some scenarios.

Bear in mind that you can bring fifty heroes if you want, and talk to your opponent before each game to decide what’s best to use in that game. If you decide in your first game that you want to see Gardus Steelsoul take on a Kharibdyss then that’s fantastic. On the other hand, an epic throwdown between Archaon and Skarbrand would be equally acceptable (not to mention making for a truly earth-shattering duel to witness). The choice on how to use your warriors in each game is up to you and your opponent to decide.

Page 3: TRIALS OF THE EVERCHOSEN - Warhammer World Trials of the Everchosen, ... Scenarios in use: ... send waves of warriors to oblivion, slay fell beasts and challenge enemy

VILLAIN ARMY:For your Villain Army, you can bring down anything you like, and you will use between 1 and 25 of them in any given game.

The scenarios are very flexible, so it’s up to you what you want to use in each game.

For the purposes of the games the Villain army is very much the horde of nameless minions you might see in a movie, driven by the will of an Evil Overlord.

If you want to theme your Villain Army and have everything you need to fully take part in the scenarios, you may wish to consider taking:

1 “Evil Overlord” – basically a character built for harvesting enemies in close combat. An ideal example would be a Chaos Lord, an Orruk Warboss, or a Seraphon Oldblood.

1 Wizard or Priest (for that all important evil vizier, who may or may not be the power behind the throne).

It’s all up to you of course, if you choose not to bring either of the above that’s fine, they will simply be represented by other models in your games at the weekend. Primarily we want everyone to enjoy fun and narrative games, and bringing along the “leaders” of the band of bad guys will help a lot.

Naturally, before every game there will be a period where we will ask you to briefly discuss with your opponent what you will use to challenge his heroes

GAMESOver the weekend you will play in six unique games. These games will be themed around using Heroes to do just what they are supposed to - send waves of warriors to oblivion, slay fell beasts and challenge enemy champions to mortal combat.

Each game will be very different. At times, you will be asked to play each battleplan twice, as both the Heroes and the Villains, others just once. Instructions regarding what to do will be made clear on the battleplan itself, and if you have any questions you can just ask an Events Staff member. There are more details on how the games will play later on in this document under “The Trials”.

The Rewards of Heroism and the Price of FailureIt’s not easy being a Hero. Sometimes you carry the day and the village is saved, at other times your courage abandons you and the dragon runs rampant, eating everyone in sight (including the luckless Hero).

To represent this, when you win a game as a Hero, you will gain Treasures, and if you lose, your Heroes will be gain Skills.

Treasure Cards represent wondrous items such as those shown below, wrested from your enemies by force of arms. Powerful artefacts all, they will wreak great harm to your foes and protect your warriors in equal measure.

Skill Cards will represent skills that your heroes have learned from the greatest teacher of all, failure.

GRUDGESIf you and another player agree, we can arrange that you play against each other in the last game. This is a great way to ensure a thoroughly climatic ending to your weekend, or a chance to settle old grudges in the finest way possible - alongside a good friend. We call these matches grudge matches and we take details after your first game on Sunday during lunchtime - so if you want to arrange a match just let us know!

THE TRIALSOver the course of the weekend, you will engage in battle over six games, each written with a fun and exciting narrative in mind.

GAME 1: THE LAIR OF THE BEASTThe beast has been hounded and tracked across the plains, its trail as fresh as its latest victims. The populace has cried out for vengeance and you have answered the call. Alone, you have hunted the creature to its lair, and with naught but a flickering torchlight and faith in the gods, you stride forward to do what must be done.

The first game is a simple one, but difficult nonetheless. You must choose one Hero and that Hero must take on a Monster all by him or herself, in its lair to boot. The Hero will aided by divine guidance, as the slaying of mighty beasts is perhaps the one thing the entire Pantheon of gods, both chaos and order alike can agree upon. The Monster is no frail beast however, and has the advantage of home ground.

GAME 2: DEFENDERS OF THE REALMWave after wave of enemies pour forth from the surrounding forests. Gaunt, depraved and numberless, they seek to tear down the walls and feast upon those who reside within. Warriors of burning light and purity stride forth from behind the defences and send the attackers tumbling from the walls by the hundred. They are the few, the proud and they shall allow none to despoil that which they have sworn to protect.

There are times when the greatest heroes must stand against the limitless hordes of the enemies and die to prevent them from succeeding. In this battleplan, each Hero will begin the game injured and exhausted to the point of collapse, having already fought for days and nights without rest. Arrayed against these mighty warriors is a numberless horde, driven forward against their will by an Evil Overlord, who will join the fray once the fighting reaches it’s peak. As the Heroes, you must hold out and survive at all costs, as the Evil Overlord, you will have been tasked by your dark masters to take the head of one hero in particular, in order to prevent him from fulfilling his destiny…

GAME 3: A RACE AGAINST TIMEPillars of multicoloured flame erupted from the outstretched arms of Flizzghazx the Imperturbable as he completed the sixth part of the ritual that would rupture the floating continent, tumbling all who lived upon it into a endless abyss. Reality began to warp and he cackled to himself as he began to chant the final verses of the spell. His concentration briefly flickered as he heard a shout of alarm and, looking over his shoulder, he saw three figures with golden auras and lightning crackling between their fists charge over a nearby hill and make straight for him.

This battleplan sees a set of han dpicked veterans sent to stop a mad sorcerer from all but destroying reality. Speed is of the essence as the villainous wizard has almost complete his spell. The wizard in question will have an able bodyguard of warriors, all eager to stop the Heroes in their tracks. Should the warriors stop him in time, glory shall be theirs, but should they fail it will spell doom for everyone.

GAME 4: THE TRIAL OF CHAMPIONSThe two remaining warriors stared at each other across the barren space of the coliseum floor. Weapons of every variety lay scattered across the floor, some covered in dried blood, others without so much as a scratch. In a heartbeat both combatants had snatched up a weapon in each hand and charged across the arena floor. There could be only one victor.

This game will be something a little different as the two groups of Heroes will be transported to a magical arena, there to do battle with each other to prove once and for all who is foremost in the eyes of their gods. Armour and Weapons will be left at the door and a random assortment of weapons will be scattered around the arena. Do you have the skill and the luck to survive the Trial of Champions?

GAME 5: THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMYBrakk the Devourer cast his axes left and right and the limbs of his enemies were hewn from their bodies and sent spiralling away from him. He heard panicked voices screaming as he crashed into his victims, and one of them sounded eerily familiar. Shaking his head to cast out the painful cries of a name long forgotten, Brakk threw back his and howled. “BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD” he screamed, and Bracchus the Defender, lord and regent of Shroudspire was lost forever.

Even the mightiest of heroes can be turned to the purposes of the enemy. Kept captive and tortured to madness, one of your Heroes will be made into a villain and it is your duty to slay that traitor and put him out of his misery. One of your Heroes (your opponent’s choice) shall be put in charge of your opponent’s Villain Army. It shall be your task to slay this wretch and wipe the foul memory of his treachery from history.

Note: You don’t have to give up one of your precious models to play this game; your opponent can simply substitute a suitable model for your fallen Hero. After all, the warping of a hero to a despot is sure to leave a mark!

GAME 6: ONLY THE MIGHTYScarvard the Unholy glared at the chattel in front of him. A waste of killing power it would be, he thought, to cleave these wastrels from his path. Khorne cares not from whence the blood flowed, this he understood, but Scarvard longed for a true challenge. A flash of lightning illuminated a giant figure in the distance, gesturing with a lightning wreathed axe as he gave purpose to the human mongrels who milled around his feet. Smiling without humour, Scarvard unsheathed his monstrous two handed axe. He had found his challenge.

In all the greatest battles, one champion has always sought to find and slay the enemy general, both to end enemy leadership and to prove their worth in the eyes of the Gods. This time however, the enemy general is surrounded by a bodyguard of elite warriors who will need to be dealt with, along with the teeming hordes of the enemy. Thusly are the mightiest warriors in the land assembled as a strike force to spearhead an attack deep into enemy territory. Their task; to slay the enemy general and bring his broken body back as a trophy of war. You will need to use all your Heroes in this game, and the odds will not be in your favour, as the enemy Overlord has a monstrous plan all of his own.

SCORINGEach game will have a result - you will either win or lose as both the Hero and the Villain. Simply record on your scorecard which result you get after each game and then hand it in at the end of the event. We will use the results of the games, along with your Favourite Game Votes to determine the recipients of the awards, which are listed below under the Awards section.

FAVOURITE GAME VOTESFavourite Game Votes are simple - just pick the game you enjoyed the most that weekend. It’s a great way to acknowledge a really fun game, an opponent with whom you had a great rapport, or maybe it was just that their army looked fantastic. Votes are taken at the end of the weekend with the results of your final game, so please show your appreciation of your favourite opponent.

OTHER ACTIVITIES DURING THE EVENTLUNCHWe will be providing lunch for you on both days - Saturday and Sunday. The menu is decided closer to date by our expert chefs, and we make sure that a wide variety of dietary requirements are catered for. If you can let us know before the event then we can easily accommodate any requests, but if you can’t (or forget!) don’t worry - we will also circle the hall during the first game asking for any specific requests and you can inform us then too.

LEGENDS PAINTING COMPETITIONSLegends gives you the chance to show off your skills with single models and units rather than with whole armies. Simply enter the relevant category when it’s open; once all the entries are in, we will ask all the players to vote for their favourites. The player that earns the most votes in each category will win the relevant prize. (please note: only miniatures from your Throne of Skulls army may be entered into this competition).Hero of Legend: All types of Infantry, Cavalry, Bikes and JetbikesBeast of Legend: Monstrous Creatures, Flying Monstrous CreaturesEngine of Legend: All vehicles and Artillery. The Best Army competition

On Saturday the Events Team will circle the hall and select the Best Army Nominations. Armies can be nominated for a wide variety of reasons; excellent painting, outstanding conversions, or simply neat and well executed paint jobs with good colour coordination across the army. Even something as simple as a nice basing scheme is enough to push an army from a “maybe” to a definitely”. The Best Army Nominations will then be offered the chance to display their models in a set of cabinets over lunch time on Sunday to be voted on by other attendees at the event. Whoever gets the most votes will be declared the Best Army winner during the Award Ceremony at the end of the event.

Due to the nature of this weekend, we will be judging the Best Army competition on both your Hero and Villain armies, the combination of which will go in the cabinets over lunch time on Sunday for everyone to vote on.
