Qn. 02
This place is one of the most popular attractions in its
country - so much so that more than 80% of the tourists
who come to this country visit this place. But unlike what
most people think, this place isn't a natural wonder.
The water here is fed by the water output of the nearby
power plant, which after using it to run turbines and provide
heat for a municipal hot water heating system, disposes it off
here. This place also operates a Research and Development
facility to help find cures for skin ailments.
Which not-so natural wonder am I talking about?

This island nation has two currencies in circulation which causes
a lot of confusion and frustration its residents. It now uses the
dominant X - introduced 8 years ago to replace the U.S. dollar,
which had been circulating for more than a decade - and Y,
which had already been in circulation.
Those with jobs in hotels, airlines and shops and on the thriving
black market earn Xs, referred to as "the dollar" and worth
about 25 times Y. This has lead to a dire situation wherein
qualified individuals such as doctors give up their white collar
job and take up jobs such as taxi drivers.

Oscar Niemeyer is considered to be one of the key figures in
the development of modern architecture. He has collaborated
on the UN head quarters and designed the Museum of modern

However, his most famous and work was designing a national

architecture on a grand scale and for its somewhat utopian city

Brokpas is a community found in Dha- Hanu valley in Ladakh.
While the Brokpa folklore says that the community arrived here
from Gilgit in Pakistan just across the LoC, there is a view that
they are actually descendants of Alexander the Great’s army and
that they have lived isolated lives for centuries in such an
inaccessibly harsh terrain that they seem to have kept their DNA
untainted by outsiders; thus intensifying a rumour that Brokpas
have certain racial attribute.
Because of this, many German women travel to this valley in
order to get impregnated by men of this community and have a
child, who they wish, would grow up grateful for the gift of
racially superior intelligence.

Sought by explorers for centuries as a possible trade route, this
sea route was first navigated by Roald Amundsen in 1903–1906.
Until 2009, the Arctic pack ice prevented regular marine
shipping throughout most of the year, but climate change has
reduced the pack ice, and this Arctic shrinkage made the
waterways more navigable. However, the contested sovereignty
claims over the waters may complicate future shipping through
this route: The Canadian government considers it as part of
Canadian Internal Waters, but the United States and various
European countries maintain they are an international strait or
transit passage, allowing free and unencumbered passage.
Name the sea route being described.

Access to the monasteries was originally difficult, requiring
either long ladders lashed together or large nets used to
haul up both goods and people to a height of 550 m. This
required quite a leap of faith - the ropes were replaced, so the
story goes, only "when the Lord let them break". Later on a
flight of steep steps were carved out of the rock. The site is an
UNESCO heritage site.
The name of this group of monasteries is derived from Greek
for “suspended from the sky”.
What is its name?

Khasi are an ethnic group who inhabit the Khasi and Jaintia hills
of Meghalaya. According to Khasi legend, once a Bengali and
Khasi were caught in a great flood and had to swim to save
themselves.
The Bengali tied his bundle of books on his head and started
swimming. The Khasi, on the other hand, held his books in his
mouth. Suddenly a huge wave swept over them and the Khasi
accidentally swallowed his books.
This ancient folklore is attributed as a reason to what present
day linguistic characteristic of the Khasi?

Name the 1 mile New York city linear park built on a
section of former elevated New York Central railroad
which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. The
recycling of the railway into an urban park has spurred
real estate development in the neighborhoods which lie
along the it.
A similar project in Paris, the Promenade plantee,
completed in 1993, provided inspiration for this project.
