PurposeFor every community, there continues to be a need for surgical and medical teams to evaluate and treat the sickest of the sick and the severely injured. The goal of the 2016 Via Christi Trauma Conference is to highlight current issues in trauma care such as pre-hospital, emergency, critical care, acute care. Through presentations, panel discussions and interactive formats, our esteemed local, regional and national speakers offer basic and cutting edge guidelines for evaluation, diagnosis and management of adult and pediatric trauma patients.

Target AudiencePhysicians, Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Emergency Personnel and other Allied Health Care Professionals

Objectives At the conclusion of this conference, participants will be able to:

• Ensure that proper techniques for evidence collection, packaging, and storage are utilized properly; identify evidence documentation by taking pictures, making notes, and tracking its custody until handed over to law enforcement.

• Discuss the importance of communication in the trauma bay and why practicing trauma bay medicine is beneficial.

• Explain the workup and treatment of bladder and urethral injuries and the operative and non-operative management of renal injuries.

• Identify life-threatening injuries in pediatric athletes.• Explain the mechanism of injury encountered in common

agricultural accident.• Determine appropriate destination(s) for trauma victims and

discuss how to implement the CDC Field Triage Scheme and its application to the Southeast Kansas Region for better patient outcomes.

• Recognize signs and symptoms of head and spine injuries and explain how to treat and manage those injuries.

• Define how a trauma systems can improve patient care.
