DESCRIPTION

Patrick McAnaney, a current Fulbright scholar in Brazil, presented to the Minas International community a presentation about the role of organizations of pickers in solid waste management. The presentation began with an overview of the current environmental and social situation in Brazil as well as the history of picker associations and cooperatives and went on to explain the organizational model of these groups. He brought us through a visual tour of a sorting warehouse and talked about the challenges and opportunities facing this movement, focusing on political, economic and managerial issues.
