These Trade Proles combine inormation on trade
fows and trade policy measures o WTO members,
observers and other selected economies.
The inormation is retrieved rom various WTO
Divisions and external sources and presented in
standardized ormat or quick reerence.
Introduction
The indicators are divided into vecategories:
I. Basic economic indicators population, GDP, current accountbalance, etc.
II. Trade policy indicators specic
WTO relevant inormation, includingtari binding inormation, importduties collected in total tax revenue,the number o dispute rulings(complainant, deendant), noticationsoutstanding and contingencymeasures in orce.
III. Merchandise trade indicators(customs-based statistics) inormation on total trade fowsbroken down by broad productcategories and major origins anddestinations.
IV. Commercial services indicators(balance o payments basedstatistics) trends in total tradefows and a breakdown by majorcomponents.

Technical notes
Basic indicators
Trade per capita is estimated as aneconomys total trade o goods andcommercial services (exports + imports,balance o payments basis) divided bythe population. It is calculated on thebasis o data or the three latest yearsavailable.
Trade to GDP ratio is estimated asan economys total trade o goods andcommercial services (exports + imports,balance o payments basis) divided byGDP, on the basis o data or the threelatest years available. GDP is measuredin nominal terms and with marketexchange rates.
Real GDP, exports and imports o
goods and services (national accountsbased), reer to data at constant pricesor volume gures based on .
Ranks in world trade o merchandise
and commercial services are denedrst reerring to European Union(EU ()) members as individual tradersand second reerring to the EU ()as one trader (i.e. excluding individualEU () members).
Trade policy
The Trade Policy Review date indicatesthe date o the latest policy review orthe economy considered.
The tari binding coveragecorresponds to the number o theHarmonized System (HS) subheadingscontaining at least one bound tari linedivided by the respective total numbero HS subheadings o the correspondingversion o the HS nomenclature.
For MFN bound taris, the simple
average o import duties reers to thesimple average o ad-valorem (AV) andcalculable ad-valorem equivalent (AVE)o nal bound HS six-digit duties. ForMFN applied taris it reers to the simpleaverage o AVand calculable AVEoMFN applied HS six-digit duties.
The non-AVduties as a percentageo total tari lines reer to the shareo HS six-digit subheadings subject tonon-AVduties. When only part o the HSsix-digit subheading is subject to non-AVduties the percentage share o these
tari lines is used.
Agricultural goods accordingto the AOA (WTO Agreement onAgriculture) denition reer to HSchapters to (excluding sh

Import duties collected in total tax
revenue and import duties collectedto total imports (goods and commercial
services) are estimated in general on thebasis o data or the three latest yearsavailable.
The number o services sectorswith GATS commitments has beenestablished by the WTO Secretariat onthe basis o available inormation andin the light o the Services SectoralClassication List (MTN.GNS/W/).The total number o sub-sectors is inthe order o . In the absence o aGATS schedule or the EU (), thetotal number o services sub-sectors
listed in the statistical proles o theindividual EC- members and o theEU () is that o the existing EuropeanCommunities (EC) schedule.
For EU () members the number onotifcations outstanding (NO) reersto the sum o NO o the EU and o theindividual economy.
The number o contingencymeasures in orce is based oninormation made available to relevantcommittees (annual reports G\L\,G\L\ and G\L\). Please
note that there is no obligation onWTO members to notiy the expiry ortermination o saeguard measures.
