PARTICIPANTS’ SUGGESTIONS TO ENHANCE THE COMPETITIVE EDGE OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT
GRADUATES
COLLEGE OF INTERNATIONAL TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

LYCEUM OF THE PHILIPPINES UNIVERSITY CAVITE
Participants’ suggestions to enhance the competitive edge of tourism management graduates.
NAME SUGESTIONSAdobas, Feloche Malinao Expose them more in the industry to build self-confidence
and engage more also in extracurricular activities. Learning in books is not just enough tools to face the competition after graduation but tourism graduates must know also how to apply those principles. Keep learning new thing beyond your limits.
Alano, Sarah Jane Lopez More training and activities which are related to the course that can enhance the skills of the students.
Arnesto, Sherry Rose Bautista
They should incorporate the knowledge with skills.
Baclagan, Carrise Angilyn Coronejo
The subject matter itself that were not able to take during our course, enhance of the tour especially it is part of the curriculum, and the mentors who basically for they are the experts in the subject matter.
Baldomero, Nanette Elisan
I suggest to the graduates of Tourism Management is to have self-confidence, more knowledge to know the industry and be smart.
Bascon, Kevin Ruiz Sapalaran
For the school, conduct more interactive activities in terms of learning and be strict with the decorum (gmrc, perdev grooming) they are implementing as it really counts after graduation. For the students, always do things ahead of time, be patient, competitive and focused on your undertakings.
Bello, Kristine Mae Mauricio
I can suggest for tourism students, is to develop their communicating skills, as I see nowadays a person who speaks well even though that person is not performing well during their college days or even since HS, the person who knows who could deliver themselves well and could sell themselves well to employers are the ones who will make it to the top, well I'm not proud of the job I'm in but what I'm proud of is even though I'm not the top student before, and even I'm the easy go lucky student from college who has "FDA" due to the confidence and the skills that my mentors have taught me, i was one of the first students who got a job

after college. the only competition a person will experience after college is the competition on how well you are gonna sell yourself during interviews, because in the real world your awards and your academic honors will not be that honored. The most important thing that will matter is how you'll show them how willing you are to contribute your skills within their company; I should say the best curriculum a school can offer is for them to have more communicating, social, English skills.
Boiser, Kimberly Venus Focus on the content and effectiveness of established curriculum so that it will improve more the abilities/skills of Tourism Management graduates.
Buenaventura, Jayzel Sayaman
Students should render quality time on three areas (travel agency, hotel and airline) on their OJT. The more the experience gained the better.
Buluran, Maria Elfrida Cura
I suggest not only focus on travel and tourism activities but also apply some more on fnb/ opera / reservations / communication skills for the students. Personality development must be taken seriously.
Caburnay, Glenn Henson Think of the Industry as a different world with different set of people. You have to prove your worth in order to stay longer in your chosen field. Strong will and Staying power is always a must.
Calusim, Maria Criselda Guim
Don’t be satisfied on what you have learned in school because it's different in real industry.
Canlas, Leah Marie Be confident, communication skills is a must, Be a team player.
Casipe, Sheena Kay Ocampo
Further exposure to real life situations and field experience in the industry as well as keeping up with the trends and changes in the trade. Enhancement of problem solving skills and critical analysis through firsthand experience will also prove to be a factor when the students finally enter the field.
Catibayan, Ann Marie Austria
More training to develop their skills.

De Guzman, Sharry-Anne Abrigo
Enhance their self to be a leader rather than to be a follower. Then don't stick on the field that they know when you heard tourism such as flight steward/dess, travel agent and cabin crew. They must expose their self on different aspects where tourism graduate / student can excel.
Dela Cruz, Lara Allaine Torrazo
Experience comprises knowledge of or skill of something or some event gained through involvement in or exposure to that thing or event. An individual may have a degree but without experience and skills he/she may not be able to have a better job so I suggest that letting students experience their potential work in the future not only by having an OJT but also practicing it during their whole terms in college. Like in an airline industry, there should have a curriculum where students are going to have their hands on practice in using a system for rebooking a flight, reservations, etc.
Dela Cruz, Nikki Carandang
Focus not only on your forte but also be willing and eager to learn more of other related things that will farther and enhance your skills. Do your job not only for your interest, but do it wholeheartedly.
Elgo, Grace Anne Valeria For the graduates, each of you must possess self-confidence and have a strong personality to face another stage of your life/career and always believe in yourself that everything's happen for a reason.
Espiritu, Angelica Balbuena
I can't suggest anything else to enhance the competitive edge of tourism graduates of LPU. In the first place, our university is known as one of the universities that specialize in hospitality courses here in the Philippines. That is already a factor when it comes into applying a job. Anyway if you're applying into a job that's somehow not related to the course you took, it is still a good factor that you're a tourism management graduate for a reason that a career in tourism and hospitality offers many rewarding avenues to explore. You can go into the planning and development, or devising solid business strategies. but it's best for you to apply for a job that is actually meant for tourism graduates. You can take advantage of opportunities in hospitality and embark on a career in the food and beverage industry,

accommodations, sales, leisure management, tour operations, or the airline industry.
Gadon, Rachel Ann Tañedo
Focus on foreign language and advice all professors not to focus on what is on the book.
Garcia, Anna Lorraine Oliveros
They should undergo trainings/attend seminars.
Geraldoy, Winona Jane Palacios
Build a stronger and more competitive curriculum which is factors mainly in the skills that are needed or required by employers in the hospitality industry. Academic attainments are merely just a bonus. In reality, it's the skills that truly matter.
Glorioso, Bituin Azurin Try to come up with employment based courses so that the student will have a 4 years’ work related experience and training inside the university. (ex. BS in Tour Guiding or BS in Front Office) Because of the fact that the industry is working for someone who mastered a specific skills needed on a specific job and not a "little of everything ideology".
Herrera, Sharmaine Silan F&B studies.
Hirose, Emily Ann Alparo Specialize more of your skills.
King, Elisa Acepcion Expand their personal and professional skills.
Layba, Laurice Lorico Hands-on training in related fields.
Lepasana, Stephanie Jane Tomenio
More training, seminars related to this course.
Lobo, Reymarie Atanoso Offer more international on the job training that are affordable. I've been lucky to have experienced Singapore training for six months so I wanted to share the same opportunity with students.
Lubigan, Jessica Pataña Stay to what kind of career you want to take. Focus on your goal.
Lucas, Reon Lord Gavino Believe in yourself and always have confidence.

Mabaet, Ma. Liza Rojas Motivation. Perseverance and Confidence. Also, the knowledge as Tourism Management Graduates.
Macalindong, Joan Camille Hinahon
Continues improvement of the curriculum as to what the industry requires today and in the future.
Macaranas, Gretchen Be confident. Take negative ones as a challenge to be better. Keep learning. Have a goal to keep you motivated to reach for it.
Magtibay, Leilani Tubo Make a better curriculum.
Marasigan, Loyd Aldrin Cueno
Conduct trainings that can enhance the students’ self-esteem/ confidence.
Mejares, Almida Dolor I would suggest that all tourism student must take their practicum abroad without any "exemption " because in my case when I was in college they don’t allowed me to take practicum abroad " DAHIL MAY ANAKNA AKO" so how they will become more competitive if they will not give a chance to enhance and improve their selves. For me taking practicum abroad gives a big help for the students career to find a job easily lucky me kasi kahit sa manila lng ako practicum nakapasok agad ako ng trabaho. Happy narin ako kasi 30% off ako sa TUITION FEE ko sa Masteral kaya I would encourage you guys to take masters also just to be more competitive. Thank you and God bless.
Mendoza, Angelica Santos
I would suggest to enhance the edge of tourism management graduates that their need to be tough whatever they do and enhancing their experience.
Miong, Laarni Alleno Boost self-confidence and communication skills that would really a great deal for every tourism graduates. Good luck!
Mojica, Suzanette Jane Del Rosario
More practical trainings.
Montoya, Viromica Saquilayan
in the state of the tourism industry right now wherein it is dynamically moving, it is better for the graduates to consider themselves to become entrepreneur or if possible to take up masters studies to have an edge to other graduates of this industry.

Muto, Fatmah Mancio I suggest that the curriculum that the school is offering should include more training and activities that will enhance the specific skills of the students. Hands-on training will be a great help in developing their skills. It is important that as early as college, students will be able to identify the things that they are good at and in that way, they could focus in boosting it. When you know who you are and you know where you're good at, it will give you more self-confidence that will help you in giving your best in the specific work you want.
Peji, Jelly Ann Bergonia Apply what you learned.
Rom, Maries Desingaño Tourism graduates must develop and provide skills and knowledge necessary to be immediate contributors in the industry.
Romen, Eileine Joyce Pellos
More related curriculum to the course.
Sadueste, Aldrin Rada Communication skills.
Santander, Genalene Karen Vicente
Additional on-the-job training in the related fields
Sumadsad, Diana Crizelle Bermudez
Communication skills.
Familiarization in the different systems used in airline and hotel industry.
Tamayo, Patricia Ferreras Do not stay on your field; choose something that can benefit you in the future. Be flexible and think twice in choosing your career path.
Tambiga, Euanne Mae Delos Reyes
Goal Settings are necessary to improve the learning and skills of Tourism graduates, if they (LPU-CITHM) know their goals for their students before they graduate, if they brain storm on how to get it all done based on the goals, if they collaborate with the students and let them say what they think they need for them to have those skills and knowledge before going out of the real world, probably All

tourism graduates from LPU-C will be as competitive ever.Tan, Rachel Ann Facun Focus on communication skills of tourism students because
of its relevance in tourism industry, especially in customer service.
Tisuela, Joanna Carla De Lemos
Be realistic.
Villanueva, Juvelyn Calixtro
Just focus on their strengths and overcome their weakness! Give importance on what they’re doing.
Villanueva, Meljune Arañas
I would suggest that universities should widen the variety or options of the companies or institutions where they allow their students to undergo their practicum. This is to enhance and prepare their students to have more experience with regards to different fields of tourism for it will serve as a foundation of their basic training for their future career.
