Postmaster C. Earl Conner today asked local residents toplan their Christmas shopping sehedules now to permit eatlymailing of Christmas cards and gift packages, thus avoidinglast-minute crowds at postofflce windows.
To assure delivery before Christmas day, the postmaster advised that out-of-state mailings")- should bo made before Dec. 10. Christmas greetings cards for local delivery -should be mailed by Dec. -5, he said.
"On Chnslmas eve it is agreat satisfaction to be certainthat your Christmas cards andpackages have been deliveredbecause they were mailed early,"he pointed out. "Wlhen you postpone mailing to the last minute, you risk disappointing your friends by having your messages and gifts caught in the rush and perhaps not delivered until after Christmas."

Iready done a large part of itswn Christinas shopping by lay ng In supplies of many (turn ands of dollars woith oftamps," lie announced.
"We would appreciate Jt if >eople would stop fn next week ind purchase the.exlra slamps hey are going to need for their
Christmas cards and li-tt»»-s," hesaid. "This is one phase ofChristmas shopping that can becompleted early,' arid it will helpts a great deal in speeding up ral'fie at p°*t office windows
during December."The postmaster _ recommended
that Christmas cards be sentfirst-class where there is 'anypossibility that the address mayae incorrect or incomplete, sinceonly envelopes hearing a 3 coni.stamp have forwarding privieges,
Stiessing the need for comfilet e and accurate addresses, hepointed out that -thousands of ;ards and packages ate dayslate arriving every Christmasseason or end up at the deadletter office because of insuffl-'cjent addresses. He nnphasizccthat zone numbers should beincluded whenever available tospeed delivery.
Parcel post packages cannotbe accepted unless thev arestoutly wrapped, he said.' "Thismeans heavy cord, sturdy outerpaper and heavy cardnoard inside. Packages must" not exceed70 pounds in weight and arelimited in size to 100 inches irtlength and girth 'combined.'"
Christmas cards can he handledmore readily if they are tiedin bundles, with all the envelopes facing the same way andthe stamps in the same corner.Progressive mailings over a per iod of several days evens outthe work al the rioM office, hiadded. t '
